Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Police Station

Wait, were these zombies faster than those before?

With each step I took closer to the station, the zombies seemed to be getting closer and closer. I didn't even manage to get halfway before I felt the graze of their touch on my back.

I took a sharp left turn in hopes that it would give just a bit of distance between me and those filthy creatures. Though it seemed my pathetic attempt at avoiding them did little more than fuel their desire to turn me into one of them.

I quickly took off my backpack and wrapped my arm around one of the straps. I started swinging it behind me in an attempt to push them away and to my surprise, it worked better than I had anticipated and all but 1 of the zombies had been slowed down significantly for a moment - that zombie had been running a lot closer to the left side so it was just outside of my reach.

As I threw 1 more desperate swing with my backpack, it did get hit by it, however it latched on and was not going to let me escape with it. I quickly let go because I realized even if I got my bag back, it would cost me my life, as the other zombies had begun to run again.

I had about 30 meters remaining and I was out of tricks, just 1 thing remained for me to do, run.

I gritted my teeth and I began to sprint faster and faster, my feet slamming on the gray asphalt which made each step I ran painful. The road seemed to stretch on the more I ran... was it worth the struggle to continue on...? It wasn't going to get easier, if anything, life in this world was only bound to get more and more difficult. But when I looked back to see my fate should I stop, I saw the gruesome faces, bodies and expressions they had. I steeled my resolve to live, I looked forward and almost there, just a little further and this nightmare would be over... for now.

Right before the zombies caught me, I managed to grab the handle of the police station door, but only when I began to turn the handle, I realized a horrifying preposition, *what if it was locked?* Before I could think any more, my body tried to open the door.

Click

The sound made my whole body shudder, I was going to be safe. I tried quickly opening the heavy metal door - it was much harder than I thought, but I managed to pull it enough to slip inside.

BAM

Before I could even enter, the zombie closest to me ran into the door which made me confused for a second before entering.

The scene was eerily similar to the one I saw when I first entered my apartment, but this time the door separating me and the zombies was made to survive riot attacks and even gunshots, there was no way the zombies could break this door down, not quickly at least.

I sat against the door, catching my breath. I felt so nauseous from running that I threw up next to the door. After a good while, the zombies stopped banging and scratching the door and left.

I finally stood up and wondered if there were any other entrances that the zombies could use to get in, I figured if there were other doors then those would be as sturdy as the one behind me.

"Is there no one here?" I said out loud after listening to how quiet everything was, a little bit surprised since I figured people would definitely try to hold out here.

I've been here before, haven't I? thinking to myself while looking around, searching for what I came here for in the first place.

"Oh?" I suddenly spotted something that piqued my interest and started calmly walking over to what I had spotted.

This is a bit heavier than I anticipated I thought to myself as I held up a baton I haven't seen this in real life before!

I strapped it to my waistband and kept searching for what I came here for.

"Hmm, a police backpack might be even better than what I originally had" I muttered to myself while holding up a police backpack.

As I started to become slightly agitated because I couldn't find what I came here for, almost like it was calling to me, I finally found what I was looking for.

I picked up the police-grade taser. This was the perfect weapon against zombies, it was much quieter than a gun and was bound to be MUCH more effective against zombies.

Placing the taser in my right pocket, I began to search for a way out, hopefully, a way that wasn't full to the brim with zombies. I found 4 entrances in total, first was the main entrance that I had used to get inside, the second one was a backdoor, third one was the fire escape and the 4th was to a small, yet important opening to the roof. I tried opening the rooftop hatch, I turned my hand and felt resistance, it was locked.

After checking which entrances were locked, I figured out that only the main and backdoor entrances were open, the rooftop and fire escapes were both locked... maybe when this apocalypse started people DID come here but for some reason left mostly everything behind, why? Why would they have left this much stuff behind? Was there a reason why they couldn't take more?

Shaking my head, I decided it wasn't worth thinking about and headed for the backdoor entrance.

I knew the layout of this part of the city from when I studied it from my apartment. Of course, I took a big tour but I figured I could still find my way around if I spotted notable landmarks or, if I desperately needed to, head back where I just came from.

I chose the former and quietly opened the backdoor. I peeked my head outside to see if any zombies were nearby, luckily for me, there weren't any.

Not wanting to make a similar mistake to when I first climbed down the emergency fire ladders, I immediately started searching for more of them to climb.

A few moments later I found myself climbing up the ladders and wondering why the police station had no rations... maybe that's what the people who had lockpicked the doors had taken.

My feet touched the red rooftop tiles of the high 6 story building I had climbed. I began to walk in the direction I thought my goal was.

After just a measly 5 minutes, in the distance, I finally saw what I had been going towards.
