Chapter 244 - Theban alphabet

"All right." Adonis said with a smile.

"What?" Anna asked, finding it bizarre that he should find anything funny in those circumstances.

"You, Anna. Even when you're wrong, you're right."

 Anna laughed too.

"Remember that when I start giving you advice."

 "I would never forget."

Anna saw a glint of desire in his eyes, but it was like lightning. So fast, she could have imagined it.

"Shall we?" She asked. And they got into the car, and as usual, the train left. When Anna arrived at the old house, there was no one in the house or in the plantations. They had probably also been summoned to mourn. She noticed, as they passed the small houses built along the way and even the corrals, that they were all decorated with a black flag with a yellow werewolf drawn on it.

"That wolf, is it the symbol of a house?"

"No. It's the symbol of the transformed werewolves."

Anna thought. Adam was making a beautiful tribute to the dead. But useless, in her opinion.

Anna went downstairs with the pot in her hand, and noticed that Sarah was more tired and haggard, and didn't seem interested in Anna, or even in the food.

"What happened?" Anna said, looking at her thoughtfully. It was much easier to torture her when she was in her usual arrogant mood.

"I know there's no one in this house. I didn't smell any food. You're the one who needs to tell me what's going on."

"What do you want to know? It won't make any difference to you." Anna said, and picked up the instrument of the day's torture. Sarah stared at her hand, then stared at her in amazement.

"I didn't think that was in your plans."

"You can't have imagined even a third of what I have in store for you." Anna said and moved closer.

"Aren't you going to feed me first?"

"No." Anna said amused. "Tell me what you know about my mother."

"I don't know anything, apart from what I've already told you."

 "You're lying."

"I would never lie to you." Sarah said sarcastically and Anna asked Adonis to help her keep her mouth open while she pulled out one of her front teeth.

And every time she asked her a question about her mother, and she refused to answer, she pulled out a tooth, until they were all gone, along with the screams of pain. Anna went over to the table where the instruments were and made her swallow some antibiotic tablets with water. She ordered her to swallow some hydrogen peroxide and left, because she knew she would spit on her. She did, but she couldn't reach Anna, who smiled at her in mockery.

Anna felt the smile die on her lips when she saw the look of dread on Adonis' face as Sarah began to speak in an unknown language. Adonis seemed to understand everything she was saying and asked one of the men guarding the door to take his place, then rushed out as if the devil himself was on his tail. Sarah started laughing uncontrollably, and Anna thought it best to leave the place. Not because she was afraid, but because the woman was laughing merrily, and this aroused her fury to such an extent that she felt like attacking her beyond what was planned for each day. She didn't want to deviate from her schedule.

Anna found Adonis sitting at the kitchen table, drinking a glass of water.

 "What was that about?"

 "What?"

"You got scared when that old hag started talking in a strange language."

"You misunderstood, Anna. I was just thirsty."

 Anna sat down facing him.

"Don't hide anything from me, Adonis. Perhaps the words she said referred to my mother? I need to know if you know..."

Adonis looked at her thoughtfully. To Anna, he seemed to be in doubt as to whether or not to tell her.

"She didn't say anything about your mother."

 "So you know that language!"

"I learned it on an app that only chosen and invited people had access to, but they ended up deactivating it because too many people managed to break in and gain access."

 "And what language is that?"

"We call it the Theban alphabet."

 "And what did she say?"

"She cursed you and the child in your womb."

Anna looked at him curiously, amused.

"I had tests done before I came to the United States, Adonis. I'm not pregnant."

"She said you wouldn't know who the child's father was."

 "She lied. Rest assured."

"You may not know yet. But she wouldn't send such a plague without knowing for sure. And besides, the child... As I understand it, it may not have been born yet, but at some point in your life, that child will be conceived."

"Adonis... That woman is crazy and she's trying to confuse us. If I'm pregnant, it'll only be a few days. How could she know? It took her a long time to find out I was pregnant, when I was many months along!"

"You touched her. She feels your energy through touch. Even more so in the midst of suffering. These dark people take advantage of touch to suck out energy and stop the pain. Or at least lessen it. And it may not be a pregnancy, she may be talking about one of the children you already have. She wasn't very clear."

"And what was the plague?" Anna asked, curious but skeptical.

"She said that this child will bring into your life the blossoming of the evil that you yourself have watered inside you. She said that you will never know who the father is, that this child will bring the ultimate darkness into your life, and that of your whole family. She says that you can no longer be happy and that... And that she will make you unproductive."

"And why did you run away? The plague was cast on me."

"She said that I would be the one to give you a way out of the evil. But when I did, I'd be unproductive too... I know you don't believe me, but I always knew there was something bad about her. And what is said in the midst of pain doesn't have to be an evil person, but it tends to come true. Then you'll understand why I'll keep bringing you here, but I won't go down to the basement again. And you should finish this torture, because it won't stop with this plague."
