Chapter 3 - Cameron

The next morning, Zoe wakes up to Cameron standing over her. "Shit Cameron. Why the fuck are you standing over me at 7 in the morning?" Zoe glares at Cameron's appearance. His blonde hair was bright was blinding against her foggy morning vision. His bright piercing green eyes seemed to always see right through her. He always seemed to know what she'd say before she said it herself. "Why are you in here in the first place?" Cameron glared at her. "Your 'box' wouldn't shut up." He used air quotes when he said the word box. "What do you mean?" Zoe asks, trying to pretend he didn't know what he was talking about. Cameron looks at her as if she's asking the wrong question. "You know exactly what I'm talking about." Zoe sighs. "Ok fine." Zoe grabs the box and opens it, grabbing a tiny fox from the box. "Come on Cameron, they're spirit animals. You, Katelyn, Morgan, August, Tyler, and Addi all have one. Why can't I? I've been here 4 years." Cameron looks at her and sighs, waving his hand as if to say 'fine'. She smiles before looking at the small animals in the box. After a couple minutes, she pulls out a small ferret. She holds the ferret in her hands and looks at Cameron. Cameron nods at without a word, grabs the box off of the bed next to Zoe. "I'll take the rest to the shelter." Zoe nods and Cameron walks out, shutting the door behind him.

The next day Zoe wakes up to the small ferret lying in a comfy little chair in the corner. She stands up and gets dressed, walking out of the room after a few minutes. She walks down to the kitchen to see Addison. "Morning Addi." Zoe grabs a piece of bread and puts it in the toaster. "Morning Z." Zoe rolls her eyes at the nickname as Morgan walks in. "Morning Addi, Morning Zoe" Morgan was known for her amber eyes and long bright red hair. It made her stand out compared to everyone else. Even Cameron. Everyone else either had bright blonde hair, dark brown hair, or black hair altogether. Katelynn was a different story with streaks of blonde in her light brown hair. "Hey Morgan."Zoe seemed deep in thought, so when the toaster went off, she nearly jumped out of her seat. Addi and Morgan noticed this. "What's wrong? You seem so jumpy and on edge." Morgan asked as Katelynn walked in. The place we lived had two bathrooms and three bedrooms total. Being the newest to the group, I got a room to myself. On the other hand, Cameron shared a room with Tyler and August. Morgan, Addi and Katelynn shared a room as well. "Hey Katelynn." I finally spoke up. "Hm?" She turned to look at me. "Do you want to share a room with me? I mean it was your room before I got here and its probably crammed in the small room you three sleep in already. " With a smile tugging at her lips, she replied. "Thanks. It is really cramped in there. When can I start moving my stuff?" I felt slightly shocked considering she gave her room up when I got here. Honestly, I didn't expect her to say yes but she was my closest friend here so I was somewhat relieved. With her moving into my room, that meant I wouldn't have to be alone anymore either. I stayed quiet for a few minutes before I realized she had asked me a question. "I already have more than enough space so whenever you have time to I guess." She finally smiled. "Ok. Thanks again." Zoe smiled back. "No problem."

I place two small bowls of food and water on the floor for the tiny ferret as I hear footsteps. It's quiet for a second before I hear a knock. "Come in." I turn to watch as Katelynn walks in. "Ready to start moving?" I look at the time. "It's eleven-thirty." She grins. "Come on. Before it gets later."
