Chapter 17 - The Sabotage (Part Two)

Lucas asked, "Samuel, what exactly is going on?"

Samuel replied loudly, "Leader, there is a rule in our code that states that betraying the sect is punishable by death, correct?"

Lucas nodded. "Yes."

Samuel continued, "Executioner, bring forth the instruments of punishment."

Before Lucas could fully comprehend what was happening, Samuel declared, "Michael, Alexander, William, and James have committed the crime of deceiving the sect and conspiring to seize the position of leader. We shall now carry out the punishment."

"Wait!" Lucas interjected. "Samuel, do you have evidence?"

Samuel responded, "They have admitted it themselves."

The four men, stubborn as oxen, spoke in unison, "Just kill us already. No need for all this talk. We have indeed conspired. We refuse to have an outsider as our leader."

Lucas was utterly baffled. What was the meaning of all this?

Just then, two figures entered from outside. It was Daniel and his five sons. Before introductions could be made, several more people arrived: Joseph, Evelyn, and Liam.

Lucas was even more puzzled. Why were these people, who usually stayed out of martial world affairs, here?

But these were not the main characters. The key players were about to arrive. A sedan chair slowly entered, and a woman stepped out. Her plain attire could not hide the charm in her demeanor, and her eyes betrayed her true intentions.

She cried out loudly, "Uncles and elders of the martial world, you must avenge my husband, Matthew."

Lucas was very surprised to see her here. Meanwhile, Jackson began to show a smug smile.

"Those who killed Matthew from the Kennedy Family are right here, Madam. You can rest assured. However, the leader just let two people go," Jackson said, directly pointing the finger at Lucas.

Initially, Ella had no intention of getting involved, but it seemed that Jackson had ulterior motives. She spoke up, "Who said we left? I am still here. Those two people couldn't have possibly killed Matthew. Moreover, the leader hasn't spoken yet. What authority does a mere helmsman have to speak as if his power surpasses the leader's?"

Ella's words effectively silenced Jackson. However, Mia was not about to let it go.

Since Jackson was here to help her, she was contemplating her next move. Lucas, on the other hand, gave Ella a look of gratitude.

"Sister, how was your husband Matthew wronged? Please tell us," Daniel said as he approached.

Ella, of course, was not going to let Mia have her way. "Leader Lucas, although I am from the Kennedy Family, I understand that even a wise official finds it hard to settle family disputes. But it seems that certain people are very fond of meddling in others' affairs."

Her words were clearly pointed. Daniel was left speechless. Even Amelia could tell that Ella was siding with Lucas and tugged at Ella's sleeve.

Henry, seeing this, was seething with anger but managed to keep it in check.

Mia retorted, "Whoever you are, the matter of my husband Matthew is not yet settled with you. What are you talking about?"

Her words made everyone present feel that Madam Mia was being rather unreasonable. Ella smiled and said, "Leader Lucas, does your Beggar Sect's affairs require the intervention of women?"

Lucas nodded and said, "Sister, please wait. I need to handle the matter of the elders first."

"Who is your sister? Ridiculous! An outsider dares to speak like this!" Mia sneered, causing Lucas's anger to rise.

"Master Alexander of Wutai Mountain has arrived," announced a monk as he slowly entered.
