Upon hearing this, Shen Lingxing immediately understood where Mi Jing's straightforward personality came from—it was inherited from her family.
Shen Lingxing chuckled lightly and said, "Dad, Mi Jing has already told me all about this."
The implication was that he didn't mind at all whether Mi Jing could cook or do housework.
"Oh? What else did she tell you?" Mi Zhihong's expression softened into a smile, filled with interest.
"She also said that she has a bad temper and is not gentle." Shen Lingxing sat up straight, looking at Fang Qingru and Mi Zhihong, and spoke calmly, "Dad, Mom, it was inconsiderate of me not to seek your approval before marrying Mi Jing. I apologize for that. But we didn't take our marriage lightly. We are very serious about this and will work hard to make it succeed. I will do my utmost to bring happiness to Mi Jing and give her a bright future. So, please rest assured and entrust Mi Jing to me. I will love her and make her happy, just like you do."
After hearing these words, Mi Zhihong and Fang Qingru exchanged glances. Then Mi Zhihong was the first to speak, "Alright, we believe you." He then turned to Fang Qingru and said, "Wife, go help Jingjing pack her things so she can go back with Ling Xing in a bit."
Fang Qingru opened her mouth, wanting to say that Mi Zhihong's decision seemed a bit hasty, but considering Shen Lingxing was present, she held back her words. After hesitating for a moment, she reluctantly followed Mi Zhihong's instructions and went to Mi Jing's room to help her pack.
After Fang Qingru left, Mi Zhihong continued to chat leisurely with Shen Lingxing. Mi Jing and Mi Wan came out of the kitchen, saw the two having a pleasant conversation, and decided not to interrupt. They went back to their respective rooms instead.
"Mom, what are you doing? I'm not going on a long trip, why are you packing my things?" Mi Jing asked in confusion as soon as she walked into the room and saw Fang Qingru stuffing her clothes into a suitcase.
Upon hearing this, Fang Qingru stopped organizing the clothes, turned around, and looked at Mi Jing, "This is your father's decision. He wants you to go back with Ling Xing in a bit."
"There's no need to rush. I want to stay at home for a few more days!"
"It's not up to you. You're already married. It's not appropriate to stay at your parent's house." Fang Qingru's expression darkened as she spoke, pulling Mi Jing to sit down by the bed, "I was initially unwilling when your father asked me to help you pack, but upon reflection, he made the right call. I was neglecting the bigger picture. Although your marriage was hasty, you're married now and part of someone else's family. From now on, you must consider Ling Xing and his family in everything you do. For a marriage to last, the key is a harmonious relationship with your spouse and his family. So make sure to get along well with Ling Xing's family, okay?"
"Understood! I'll keep that in mind." Mi Jing earnestly promised, then joked, "Mom, are you and Dad really that confident in me leaving with Shen Lingxing?"
"What else can we do? Ask you to get a divorce?" Fang Qingru rolled her eyes at Mi Jing, annoyed.
Mi Jing immediately felt a chill down her spine and quickly tried to appease Fang Qingru with a flattering smile, "Of course we can't get a divorce. Shen Lingxing is very good to me. You and Dad can both rest assured."
"Yes, both your father and I have a good first impression of him. He's just too good-looking. It might attract trouble."
"Mom, who's going to attract trouble?" Mi Wan, who had just reached the doorway, overheard the latter part of Fang Qingru's sentence and joined the conversation out of curiosity.
"I'm talking about your brother-in-law," Fang Qingru replied.
"Haha, Mom, our Jingjing is not bad either! They suit each other perfectly." Mi Wan, leaning lazily against the door frame, smiled brightly, showing her pristine white teeth, and happily expressed her opinion.
"Of course! How could a daughter raised by me be anything less?" Fang Qingru said proudly, raising her eyebrows with a sense of deep satisfaction.
Seeing her mother boasting, Mi Jing chimed in flatteringly, "That's right. Our family has great genes, especially my sister, who inherited more than eighty percent of your good genes."
Mi Wan looked a lot like Fang Qingru—they were both natural beauties. Even though Fang Qingru was over fifty now, she still retained her charm. As for Mi Jing, she didn't resemble either Fang Qingru or Mi Zhihong. When she was young, she used to think of herself as an odd one out and often wondered why she didn't look like her mother or sister.
Could it be that she wasn't their biological child?
But every time this thought came up, Mi Jing would immediately dismiss it. Compared to her sister, their parents favored her more. How could she not be their biological child?
Still, a part of Mi Jing felt a bit regretful, "It's a pity I didn't inherit your excellent genes."
Suddenly, Mi Jing's bright smile disappeared, replaced by a subtle sorrow. Seeing this, Fang Qingru and Mi Wan exchanged a meaningful glance, silently communicating in a way only they understood.
"Silly girl! Did I give birth to you with a crooked nose and mouth, or missing arms and legs? You're just fine as you are! Looking like me isn't necessarily great; I have a bad temper," Fang Qingru said.
"Exactly! Jingjing, you take after our dad! You both have such optimistic personalities."
The mother and daughter duo coordinated beautifully, quickly cheering Mi Jing up. Soon, the three of them were chatting enthusiastically.
"Mommy, didn't you say you were going to bathe Xuanxuan? Why aren't you here yet?" Little Song Jinxuan had been waiting in the bathroom for over ten minutes and was starting to get impatient. She poked her head out of the bathroom and shouted, reminding her mother that she had been forgotten.
The conversation in the room came to an abrupt halt. Hearing her daughter's voice, Mi Wan remembered that she had gone to her room to get a change of clothes for her daughter. She promptly ended the conversation and turned to leave.
"Wait, Wanwan, aren't you going home tonight?" Fang Qingru called to Mi Wan.
"Well, Guotao is on a business trip, so I'm planning to stay here for a few days. I couldn't find the right moment to tell you and Dad this afternoon since you were both busy," Mi Wan said, a fleeting tension in her voice, though she quickly changed her expression and tone to sound casual.
"Really? Or did you two have a fight?" Fang Qingru pressed, worried.
Mothers are indeed sharp and discerning!
Mi Jing quickly spoke up to cover for Mi Wan, "Mom, how could my sister and brother-in-law possibly fight? She's so gentle and understanding. Who could she possibly argue with?"
"What do you know? Conflicts are inevitable between spouses."
