Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 Rejecting the Matchmaking (1)

"Oh, I rarely watch TV and I don't follow celebrities, so there are only a few stars whose names I can call out."

The coffee and honey tea arrived, halting their conversation. When the waiter placed the honey tea in front of Mi Jing, he gave her a sympathetic look, but Mi Jing merely smiled faintly, not feeling her situation warranted sympathy.

After the waiter left, Fang Zheng took a sip of his coffee and said, "It's hard to find someone who looks like another person. Is this why Miss Mi is still single?"

"Probably." Mi Jing lied with her eyes wide open. In fact, she wasn't particularly fond of Ku Tianle; it was merely an excuse to fend off Fang Zheng.

"Then Miss Mi must have dated before, right? Does your ex-boyfriend look like Ku Tianle?"

"No." At the mention of her ex-boyfriend, Mi Jing's heart suddenly tightened. In recent years, she rarely thought of Han Xiujie, barely remembering his face. She was always carefree and wouldn't hold onto the past, but she had been hurt emotionally. Though the wounds had healed, the subconscious memory of hurt and betrayal still lingered. So whenever someone brought up the term 'ex-boyfriend', she always felt a little uncomfortable.

However, Fang Zheng didn't notice the subtle sadness in Mi Jing's eyes and seemed quite pleased with her answer. He smiled and said, "Miss Mi, my first impression of you is very good, and I don't have high demands for my future spouse. She doesn't need to have high academic qualifications, nor does she need to be very beautiful, someone like you is just right."

What does it mean to be just right like her? She certainly didn't have a stunning beauty, but even though she suited Fang Zheng's aesthetic, Mi Jing didn't feel happy about that.

"So?" Mi Jing asked, slightly woodenly, gazing at Fang Zheng in confusion.

"Miss Mi, please marry me?" Fang Zheng took out a ring and kneeled on one knee before Mi Jing, catching her completely off guard.

Even with Mi Jing's strong mental fortitude, being proposed to by someone she could almost call a stranger was still quite a shock.

"Mr. Fang, you're joking too much! Please get up!" Mi Jing felt stiff, and although she hadn't looked around, she could sense the eyes of everyone in the shop on them.

"I'm not joking, Mi Jing, I sincerely request you to marry me!" Fang Zheng gazed at Mi Jing affectionately, holding up the sparkling diamond ring, his tone strangely excited and fervent.

Mi Jing's biggest fear was that Fang Zheng wasn't joking with her. Originally, she met with Fang Zheng despite Li Bao'er's objections just to placate her mother, hoping for some peace at home, but she never expected Fang Zheng to stage a proposal!

"Mr. Fang, I'm sorry, but I actually already have a boyfriend." Before everyone around them started to joke about accepting Fang Zheng's proposal, Mi Jing quickly found an excuse to refuse, her words full of apology.

"You're lying. Your aunt clearly said you haven't been in a relationship for many years." Fang Zheng came well-prepared. Before meeting Mi Jing, he had specifically called Mi Jing's aunt and they talked for nearly half an hour. So Fang Zheng not only knew Mi Jing's dating history but also knew exactly what elementary school she graduated from.

Her lie was exposed on the spot. Mi Jing's heart skipped a beat as she anxiously thought of a way to respond and felt guilty, not daring to face Fang Zheng directly. Thus, she looked out the window, her eyes passing over a superbly handsome guy sitting by the window, and suddenly, an idea flashed in her mind.

A man like Fang Zheng, who isn't very good-looking, might feel somewhat inferior in front of a handsome guy, right? Mi Jing thought as she stood up, then leisurely walked to the neighboring table and whispered, "Sir, I'll treat you to Blue Mountain coffee for a month for free, please stay silent."

After speaking, Mi Jing sat down beside the superbly handsome guy and then explained to Fang Zheng, "Mr. Fang, I wasn't lying. This is my boyfriend. We've been together for almost two months, but my family doesn't agree because they think he's too handsome and not trustworthy."

Now it was Fang Zheng who was shocked. Sitting beside Mi Jing was Shen Lingxing, the director of their hospital. He held Fang Zheng's career and future prospects in his hands.

Mi Jing was actually the director's girlfriend? Fang Zheng was greatly surprised, stunned for a second or two, then quickly stood up. "I have something at the hospital; I'll go first."

Hastily leaving a sentence behind, Fang Zheng almost ran out as if a ghost was chasing him.

Fang Zheng's quick departure was unexpected for Mi Jing, but watching him disappear at the doorway, Mi Jing finally felt relieved. She had thought that after eleven blind dates, she had turned her glass heart into a diamond, and no matter what kind of date she encountered, she could handle it with ease.

But today, it was clearly an exception.

Mi Jing stared at the glass door of the shop, lost in thought, wondering when these endless blind dates would finish. Did she really have to find someone among those mediocre blind date candidates to step into the grave of marriage?

No, this wasn't what she wanted. Despite having a failed relationship, Mi Jing still hoped to marry someone she liked. Life is only a few decades long, and if one spends the rest of it with someone they don't love, what joy is there?

"Miss, he's already gone."

A clear and gentle voice reached her ears, so melodious it stunned her and brought her back from her daydreams.

"Sir, I apologize for disturbing you in a moment of panic earlier." Mi Jing quickly stood up, stepped back two steps, and sincerely and politely apologized.

"It's no bother." Shen Lingxing lightly tugged the corners of his mouth revealing a few white teeth.

This man truly had the captivating looks. Seeing Shen Lingxing's spring-like smile made Mi Jing's eyes shimmer. Yet, she was not Li Bao'er; even if she was smitten, she wouldn't show it.

"Then enjoy your meal and drink, I won't disturb you anymore." Mi Jing briskly turned and left. Shen Lingxing glanced at her back and then turned his gaze to the paintings and photographs on the wall.

The reason Shen Lingxing frequently visited this coffee shop was largely because he liked the environment here. The decor wasn't luxurious, but it was exquisitely elegant and exuded a faint artistic vibe. The paintings and photographs on the wall included landscapes, portraits, and others. Though they weren't grand works by famous artists, they had a unique and colorful individuality.

Shen Lingxing had heard most of Fang Zheng and Mi Jing's conversation not because he liked eavesdropping, but because their tables were separated by only a one-meter-wide passage. Even if he didn't want to listen, he couldn't avoid their voices entering his ears. Therefore, when he discovered that those paintings were by Mi Jing, he was a bit surprised. From Mi Jing's appearance and demeanor alone, she seemed less unique than her works, but she had a pair of beautiful and vibrant eyes that seemed to speak, radiating a special allure.
