Chapter 4 - Chapter three

~Aleksander~

I waited for this day, just to see her. Her face remained etched in my mind and for 5 years I couldn't forget her gaze, those hazel eyes that made me fall in love instantly. I hated the suit I was wearing, the thought of kissing a woman I didn't know, that I didn't love. I was going to live my life with the one who didn't win my heart. An arranged marriage, devoid of feelings. I knew I had no way to refuse, no way to escape. But I knew I would have to see her through to the end so that she would stay alive, even though she didn't know that.

She thinks I hate her, but all the time she was away from me, I followed her every step. When I sent her the wedding invitation I was sure she wouldn't come, but when the secretary told me that she had confirmed, something in my heart broke. Because we are part of the same world, I was forced to invite her.

- We have to go, Aleksander, my best friend, Viktor, told me. I know you want to get this over with as soon as possible.

- I know… I want it to be over as soon as possible.

- Rosalie is going back to America with you?

- No, she'll stay here until I finish my business in the States. I don't want her any closer to me than necessary. I'll attend the galas to give the journalists what they want and that's all.

- Are you sure you can't do anything?

- N…

- -Hello Aleksander.

A familiar voice rang in my ears and my whole body trembled. Reluctantly, I turned to the woman who had entered my room. I stared at her, unable to make out who she was, perhaps the garish makeup was covering up all her familiar features. The deep red dress fit her body, her curves were perfect, and the lips of the same color completed her aura. I didn't know if I was dreaming or not, but before my eyes was the enigma of my life.

- Honestly, I didn't think I would receive a wedding invitation, she said, taking the invitation out of her bag and lighting a lighter. It seems I was wrong about you, she said as she lit it.

- What are you doing here?

- What am I doing here? I came to privately say congratulations on the wedding to a dear friend, she said ironically, her smile managing to affect me. I knew you were a asshole, but Rosalie Salvatore, a little mafia princess? I think you could do better.

- Bianca, this is the last time I ask you. What are you doing here? I hadn't even noticed when Viktor had left my side.

- I came to give you this, she said as she handed me a box. I haven't forgotten a single moment you made me suffer, and all these years, I've thought about how to make it up to you. And this will help you see how much what you did affected me. I just hope that after this, Aleksander, you can leave me in your past.

I took the box from her hand and when I opened it I saw the pictures of us when we were little. Something broke in my heart, and when a sheet of newspaper caught my eye, I realized what she meant. She still believed that I was the reason for the death of her family. I couldn't tell her the truth, make her look at me with different eyes.

- For me, you were the darkest period of my life. And I hope those pictures appear in your nightmares every night. You tortured me, you watched me bleed, you treated me like nothing. Look at those children and then at us, the ones now. You brought me here on a day that represents my liberation, the moment when I will breathe again. You and Rosalie are the reasons that helped me escape the memories with you. Goodbye Aleksander!

She left so quickly that I didn't have time to answer her. To tell her the truth even though I knew that would cost me an enormous amount. I started to run after her, but I stopped when I saw her next to a man, smiling at him as if she loved him, as if he were the light in front of her eyes. She had never looked at me like that and I knew that I had lost any chance of having that smile all to myself. The picture of us, in which we were holding each other, was like a knife in my heart. Turning it over, I saw what was written on the back of it.

" The game has just begun.

Let the blood flow.

There is no escape"

I didn't even want to. No matter what she did to me, I would still love her. My doll would see that nothing had changed since the day she left with my soul. I would do everything possible to keep her by my side, even if it hurt.Aleksander

I waited for this day, just to see her. Her face remained etched in my mind and for 5 years I couldn't forget her gaze, those brown eyes that made me fall in love instantly.
