Chapter 49 - Chapter 49 – Akatsuki Join the Fray!

Cain didn't know how much time had passed since he focused on creating the avatar.

Because he already had an Assistant System, he didn't bother to look at the Hub all the time now. He just immersed himself in the character creation, trying to decide on what skills and traits his avatar should have.

Meanwhile, some groups entered his dungeon. Two guys wearing black coats and had red clouds motif as design on the back entered through Elemental Tower's door. While Uchiha Itachi observed the surroundings, the blue-skinned guy walked further ahead without care.

"This place seems dangerous. Kisame, be careful."

"Fufufufufu. Don't worry, Itachi. I'm not stupid." Kisame said as he looked at his sword, Samehada. "It looks like there is nothing here."

"It's a strange place. Look at these strange furniture and everything. It's too unnatural." Itachi commented, walking closer to investigate.

The hub was designed using the combination of medieval and modern times building style, mostly because Cain had no knowledge about advanced technology. At most, the electricity and other stuff came from games and light novels he read before.

Thus, it wasn't weird seeing modern architecture lined together next to medieval one, creating a contrast that both blended well despite having opposite characteristics.

"There are three doors. Exit? I guess that's where we leave." Kisame read the signs above each door. "Fun Fun Dungeon! and Elemental Tower, huh? And the one in the middle..."

"A similar gate to the one outside." Itachi said. "Let's try to enter one."

"You lead the way and I will defeat the enemies."

Itachi sighed. After inspecting everything around them and ensuring there were no traps, he decided to check the gate with Fun Fun Dungeon! written on top.

Entering, both of them were greeted with colorful doors and road signs that gave instructions where they had to go.

[This is a tutorial dungeon! We will teach you the basic rules about this place!]

The first warning sign, followed by several others. They were rather short.

"Hoho. Interesting." Kisame whistled, amused at the sight of cute pictures accompanying the instructions.

The floor tiles had different colors depending on where they should go. There was also a trap on the floor, which was painted in red alongside a warning.

[There will be many traps in the dungeon. Even when there is no monster, danger lurks everywhere! Be prepared!]

Kisame frowned at that.

"Heheheheh. What is this place? They even give the traps for us to avoid?"

"Be careful." Itachi said. His eyes suddenly turned red with three tomoes swirling around the pupil.

The Sharingan.

He carefully inspected everything, including the sign.

'It isn't genjutsu...' He thought. 'But there is definitely something wrong with this place.'

Even though his sharingan couldn't detect anything unusual, he couldn't help but feel wary. They advanced through the dungeon, reading all signs along the way.

At the end of the corridor filled with signs, they saw a black door.

[Now that you understand the basics of the dungeon, please proceed through the door in front of you! It's time to fight a monster!]

Both of the Akatsuki members exchanged glances.

Kisame held his sword tightly, ready to fight.

Itachi also prepared himself. His sharingan kept spinning. They opened the black door and proceeded slowly.

There was a huge room. It was lit by torches attached to the dirt wall, giving enough light for them to see clearly.

Looking around, Itachi spotted nothing unusual. Yes, nothing unusual except for a single chicken in the middle of the room.

"Chicken?"

Even an Akatsuki member, who had experienced many battles and fought many strong opponents, found the situation baffling. When they stepped forward, however, the chicken turned to face them.

Its eyes flashed red, and the ceiling opened, lowering a box that could as well fit a person inside.

Then, it slowly lowered and positioned right on top of the chicken.

"Be careful." Itachi warned.

As if on cue, the box opened and something dropped. A green, small humanoid figure fell in front of them with thud.

It groaned, rising to its knees. With sharp fangs showing and nasty looks, the creature growled, revealing its hostility. Then, as if they were one to begin with, the creature climbed onto the chicken and mounted it.

A strange applause rang from nowhere, followed by words Itachi couldn't comprehend.

[Chicken Jockey!]

[Don't underestimate it, as it's a menacing monster to society!]

The chicken jockey, a combination of zombie and chicken, glared menacingly at the Akatsuki duo. Its small frame wasn't intimidating at all.

Itachi narrowed his eyes. With just one glance, he was able to see its movements and predicted how much strength this thing possessed.

"Weak." Itachi concluded, not surprised.

"Hahahaha! Does it really want to fight? Let me handle this one." Kisame laughed, approaching the weak chicken jockey.

"Stay alert!"

"Yes yes, whatever."

Kisame stopped not far from the chicken while Samehada, his shark-sword, began trembling under the bandage. Then, a faint current could be seen running along the spines of the shark-skin.

"Fish Fang!"

In one quick movement, Kisame swung the blade down toward the chicken jockey.

"Kook!"

Surprisingly, the chicken jumped backward and evaded the attack with grace of a ballerina.

"What?"

"Kukka kuku! Koo!"

It seemed that the zombie also learned the language of chicken and could speak. However, none of them understood. Both Itachi and Kisame watched as the chicken and its zombie rider pranced around mockingly.

"Hmph." Kisame gritted his teeth.

An insult didn't need to be understood. It just needed to work.

"Fine then, let's see you eat this!" This time, instead of attacking by swinging his sword, he charged forward.

He stabbed his sword repeatedly, but the zombie rider steered his chicken masterfully. Despite looking slow, a normal human would have died.

"Chiki chi chiki!"

"Shut up!" Kisame bellowed and kicked the chicken's head. He then slashed the chicken vertically, cleaving the body into two.

The rider fell onto the ground, squirming and growling, but the threat was gone.
