Chapter 89 - 89. Coming of age celebration

After the solemn words, those standing on the sacred meadow slowly retreated to the tribe's large festive hall, where the tables were already overflowing with better and more delicious food and drinks then they could imagine. The atmosphere was surprisingly relaxed, the danovuses smiled, laughed, sang, and even started to play music and dance after dinner. The Athamanas also happily joined this celebration.

The music played in Éjifeny until dawn, all danovuses celebrated the coming of age of the chieftain's son. And the team could even witness such a rarity that a danovus got drunk, even though everyone knew that the Vojks famously tolerated alcohol well, almost as much as the Zovárds. Now, however, several people were in a state that the young people could clearly only describe as drunk.

After the big celebration, when the sun rose, it found everyone in bed. It was a long night behind them, so it was no wonder that everyone's main desire was to get a good night's sleep. Even the Athamanas were so exhausted that they slept in contorted poses, snorting loudly or even snoring until evening.

"I feel as if I was a portion of horse shit which got washed out, only so that someone could then try to build a mud castle out of it." Benkó groaned through clenched teeth, when everyone started to regain consciousness, but the boy didn't move a bit from his lying position and he only opened his eyes to look at the team when he heard approving grunts from his companions who were otherwise only softly moaning. "It's reassuring that you didn't look better either." He took a deep breath to calm his stomach that was about to turn.

"I have never been so unwell in my life. It must be like this in hell." Rahul held his head and took deep breaths as he sat up. "Next time, one of you..." Here he took a big swallow and slowly blew the air out of his lungs, before his dinner from last night came back. "Should tell me not to do anything like this." He leaned back on the bed, because somehow now it was better for him to be straight and pull his legs up, so his stomach didn't turn like the clappers in the meadow when the nyiumgyi came.

"Why are you in such good shape, Wandi?" The question came in Citar's voice, but the boy immediately put his hand in front of his mouth, as if he wanted to keep something in himself. Still, he remained seated, determined not to be overcome by a hangover.

"I didn't drink as much blood as most. Only with a cup." The danovus declared, but during his words he already grabbed Citar's head and pulled him into his lap. "Close your eyes, it will get better soon." He started stroking the boy's head.

"Ah, so the danovuses get a kick out of blood. I sould have guessed." Teveli rolled his eyes and folded his arms in front of him.

"How can you still sit?" Rahul groaned as he opened half his eyes and looked at the boy.

"Bad influence!" He received the answer from Teveli, as if it explained everything.

"Alcohol is also a poison, and they develop a certain degree of resistance against all poisons. Suk prepared me for this too, although he still needs four times as much of the best kind of whistler as I do to get drunk." The boy shrugged.

"Whistler?" Rahul asked back and turned his head to the side to look at the Koál boy.

"It's such a strong alcohol that you drink a cup of it and then you whistle a big one." Razvan explained, who closed his eyes even then.

"Good! Never give me that!" The chüvigh boy declared and groaned.

"You Wandi, what is an impression?" Citar suddenly spoke, whose voice was no longer as raspy as last time.

"Well, that's a good question!" Achilleus also agreed and slid lower on his bed so that his head hung down from the furniture. "Come on Vojk, out with it!" He encouraged his friend.

"It's a bit hard to explain." Wandi said, but he didn't take his eyes off his hand, which was stroking Citar's hair. "An impression can be anything: a word, a phrase, a name, a feeling, a memory." He pulled his mouth to the side. "When we danovuses receive the fifth nail, and we become adults, we see for a moment what will define our lives. That's the impression. Old people say that impression is the crutch that guides us through life's bumpy roads." He noted with a shrug.

"But you don't think so." Teveli stated while leaning on one of the beds. And Wandi shook his head at his words.

"I've seen a lot growing up, but according to my experience, those who grow up either don't remember their impression or simply ignore it. If it was really as important as the old people say it is, then it should have a bigger impact." He gestured in the form of a circle with his free hand.

"Do you remember yours?" Citar opened half his eyes and looked up at Wandi, who was staring at his face.

"Yes." The boy nodded.

"Good, then you can tell me. What in the kontyu's sodden underpants hidding in the Fene is that danovus holden?" Asked Achilleus with a grimace.

"How doesn't your stomach turn?" Rahul muttered when he saw the position in which the boy was lying.

"The result of years of practice." The Motumisz boy waved. "Well, Wandi, what's that?" He looked at the mentioned.

"I have no idea." The boy shrugged. "It could be something related to my race based on the danovus, but I don't know what it could be." He explained. "I've never heard that term before." He looked over the team.

"So it will be that inconsiderate type of impression." Teveli nodded, but immediately put his hand in front of his mouth. "That was a bad idea, I'm starting to get a hangover." He moaned after half a minute, accompanied by a few big breaths.

"Yes, it will be like that." Wandi smiled, then carefully helped Citar sit up. "Come on, try to pull yourself together a bit so we can go to the public bath, it's pretty quiet out there, we were probably the first to get up and believe me, it will do wonders for the hangover." The danovus chuckled.

"Are you saying that if I pick myself up from here and drag myself over there, then this sickness will go away?" Rahul looked suspiciously at the danovus.

"I'm sure of it." Said the Vojk boy with an encouraging smile.

"Okay, so what are we waiting for? Let's go, I want to get rid of this shit!" The chüvigh boy declared and true to his words he slowly pushed himself up on the bed. The others also followed his example, albeit quite slowly, so after quite a few stops and dizzy steps, the team finally dragged themselves almost to the other side of the city to that particular public bath.
