…
The sky above Mount Rushmore churned with dust as Atom Eve and Gojo Satoru zoomed in, the iconic stone faces of the monument looming below, now trembling under violent quakes.
Eve's pink energy glowed bright, propelling her through the air, while Gojo teleported alongside, his casual grin a stark contrast to the chaos unfolding.
Below, Dr. Seismic, a wiry man in a tattered lab coat, his eyes wild with mania, stood on a rocky outcrop, his experimental bracelets crackling with power.
Each tremor sent tremors ripping through the ground, cracking the earth and shaking the massive carved presidents.
Tourists screamed, scrambling away from falling rocks, their phones forgotten as panic took over. The monument groaned, chunks of stone tumbling down, threatening to erase history in a cloud of rubble.
Eve's face tightened as she scanned the scene, her voice sharp over the wind. "Gojo, distract him, now! I'll get the civilians out before this whole place collapses!" The quakes were growing stronger, the ground splitting wider, and she could feel the urgency in her bones, lives were on the line, and every second counted.
Gojo glanced at her, his sunglasses glinting, and waved a hand like she'd suggested a chore. "Nah, you won't have to," he said, voice dripping with confidence, like the crumbling mountain was a minor inconvenience.
Before Eve could argue, he vanished, teleporting with a faint pop, reappearing right behind Dr. Seismic, hands in his pockets, looking as bored as if he'd wandered into a bad movie.
Dr. Seismic was mid-rant, his voice shrill and fanatical, arms waving at the giant stone faces behind him.
"These symbols of oppression, these slavers carved in stone, they mock us!" he bellowed, laughing as a fresh quake sent another boulder crashing down.
"I'll erase them, usher in a new era, free of their lies!" His bracelets hummed louder, sparks flying, the air thick with the threat of more destruction.
Gojo stood just a few feet away, calm and unimpressed, like Seismic's meltdown was a kid throwing a fit.
He tilted his head, smirking faintly, not even bothering to step out of his relaxed slouch. The doctor spun around, spotting him, and sneered, his wild eyes gleaming.
"What's this? Another fool come to worship your new god?" he mocked, gesturing grandly at himself. "Or do you kneel to these false idols?" He laughed, unhinged, raising his arms.
"The world will watch them fall!"
Seismic slammed his earthquake gauntlets together, the bracelets glowing bright as they charged for a massive blast, one strong enough to level the entire monument, maybe more.
The ground shook harder, tourists screaming louder as cracks snaked up the mountain. Eve, already diving toward the crowd to start evacuating, froze mid-air, her heart racing, 'He's gonna bring it all down!'
Gojo didn't flinch. He raised a single finger, slow and deliberate, a faint red glow sparking at the tip, compressed repulsion force, tight and deadly.
"Yeah, no," he said, voice flat, like he was swatting a fly. With a casual flick, he fired the Red energy straight at Seismic's gauntlets, just before they could fully connect.
The impact was instant, a sharp, blinding flash of power that hit like a thunderclap. The bracelets shattered, metal and circuits exploding into sparks, the force ripping them apart in a heartbeat.
The blast didn't stop there, it hurled Dr. Seismic backward, his body spinning through the air like a ragdoll, his manic laughter cut off as he slammed into a distant rock formation with a dull thud.
He crumpled to the ground, unconscious, the quakes dying out as fast as they'd started.
The chaos ended in less than ten seconds. The ground stilled, the air cleared, and the tourists, still huddled, some crying, were unharmed.
Mount Rushmore stood tall, its faces untouched, only a few loose rocks scattered below. Eve landed beside Gojo, her pink energy fading as she touched down, her jaw slack with disbelief.
She stared at the knocked-out doctor, then at Gojo, who was brushing imaginary dust off his coat, looking like he'd just tied his shoes, not stopped a disaster.
"That… that was fast," she said, her voice a mix of awe and shock. "You just… ended it. Like… just how."
Gojo shrugged, slipping his hands back into his pockets, his grin returning. "Told you, no need to evacuate. Situation was never out of control." He adjusted his sunglasses, smirking like he'd planned every second. "Guy was all talk, no game. Easy fix."
"Just needed a bit of repulsion and all good."
Eve shook her head, catching her breath as she glanced at the crowd, now calming as GDA agents rushed in to secure the area.
"Easy for you," she muttered, but a small smile tugged at her lips.
….
So all in all, Not a single chunk of the monument was lost, no tourists were hurt, and the only casualty was the doctor himself, sprawled unconscious against a distant rock, his shattered gauntlets smoking faintly.
The tourists crowd, still shaken but safe, started murmuring, some snapping photos of the scene, others hugging loved ones.
Atom Eve hovered nearby, her pink energy fading as she scanned the area, still processing how fast it all went down. Gojo stood in the center of it all, black coat flapping in the breeze, grinning like he'd just aced a test.
"Man, I'm good," Gojo said, loud enough for Eve to hear, his voice brimming with self-praise. "Took out the nutcase, saved the mountain, kept the tourists happy, all in, what, eight seconds? That's gotta be a record, even for me." He adjusted his sunglasses, smirking at Eve, who rolled her eyes but couldn't hide a small smile.
"You're ridiculous… who even praises themselves," she muttered, landing beside him, brushing dirt off her jacket.
Before Gojo could fire back, a faint pop cut through the air, and Cecil Stedman teleported in, his sharp suit out of place amid the rocky chaos. He strode toward Gojo, his face a mix of grudging respect and his usual no-nonsense frown.
"Hmm, that was impressive," Cecil said, stopping a few feet away, hands on his hips. "You handled it with efficiency, no collateral damage, no one harmed. Gotta say, Robot made a smart call bringing you into the Guardians. Even if your mouth runs more than I'd like, you get the job done."
Gojo's grin widened, and he gave a mock salute. "Aw, shucks, boss, high praise from you? I'm blushing," he said, voice dripping with playful sarcasm. "Told you I'm awesome plus awesome double awesome. Quick, clean, and all kinds of awesome."
Cecil didn't bite, his expression staying flat. "Yeah, yeah, save the ego trip," he said, waving a hand.
"GDA's taking over from here, cleanup, securing the doctor, all that. You're done. Head back to whatever you were doing and keep your goddamn phone on this time. And The new Guardians base is cleared, forensics wrapped up at the old headquarters. Robot will fill you in on the details later, schedules and whatnot." He glanced at Eve, nodding. "You too, Eve, good work keeping things steady."
Eve gave a quick nod, her face serious but relieved. "Thanks, Cecil. We'll head out." She floated up slightly, ready to fly, while Gojo stretched, cracking his neck like he was prepping for a nap instead of a team briefing.
Gojo glanced at Eve, jerking a thumb toward the sky. "Race you back?" he teased, already floating an inch off the ground. Eve snorted, her energy glowing brighter. "You'd cheat with that teleportation power of yours," she shot back.
Gojo was just about to leave when he suddenly stopped. He looked back over his shoulder, raised one finger, and summoned Blue. A small orb of glowing energy formed, humming with power. Then, without hesitation, he fired it at the unconscious Dr. Seismic.
As the energy hit, the effect was instant, and brutal. Dr. Seismic's body was yanked inward, like something invisible was crushing him from all sides. His limbs bent in the wrong directions, his chest caved in, and bones snapped like twigs. His body twisted unnaturally as if pulled by a powerful vacuum.
Blood vessels burst under his skin, and his muscles clenched so tightly it looked like his body was trying to fold into itself. It wasn't an explosion, it was the opposite. Everything was being sucked toward a single point.
A second later, it stopped. What was left of Dr. Seismic dropped to the ground in a broken, crumpled heap. Gojo lowered his hand and walked away, calm and quiet, like nothing had happened.
No one knew what just happened as it just happened in seconds and out of nowhere, anyone but… Cecil Stedman.
Before Gojo could teleport he shot a look at Cecil and said, "why are you looking at me like that, I just solved your mental doctor problem."
