Chapter 65 - 65. The Remaining Memories

Wang Feng felt his body drifting—losing its form, yet merging with a pair of majestic eyes that surveyed the world from divine heights. Beside him, the silver-haired woman stood calmly, sharing the same gaze.

They were seeing… through the eyes of the Light Dragon King.

What appeared next was a pair of blood-red eyes belonging to the Dragon God—eyes filled with madness, as if they could explode at any moment. Chaos erupted.

The Dragon God fought with power beyond imagination. Even the Light Dragon King couldn't withstand him alone. Eight God Kings from other races joined forces to contain his fury. Yet even together, casualties fell one by one.

Explosions rocked the ruined altar. The Dark Dragon King and the Water Dragon King—the only young dragons remaining—alongside the Light Dragon King, stood shoulder to shoulder, forcing the Dragon God toward the altar—binding him. But in the process, the God Kings from other races perished as well. Now, only three Dragon Kings and five God Kings remained.

"My Lord… please wake up…" the Water Dragon King whispered sorrowfully.

The Dragon God lay motionless. His body shattered, bruises covering him. His breath weakened to near silence. His once-blazing red eyes now began to dim. He was truly wounded… far too badly.

But that was what frightened them most.

Even in such a state, his body was beginning to heal. As the Supreme God King, his regenerative power was nearly unrivaled.

"If he wakes again… and loses control once more…" whispered a God King from another race, his face filled with doubt and fear. "Then… we may have no other choice."

To kill the Dragon God.

That was the only way to save the Divine Realm. But who had the strength to speak those words?

The Light Dragon King remained silent for a long time before whispering:

"No. Our Lord will awaken. He'll come back."

But the others weren't as optimistic.

"Even if he wakes… what if his mind never returns? He's already killed six of your kind. Are you sure you can bear the consequences if he loses control again?"

The three—Light, Dark, and Water Dragon Kings—fell silent. The wounds weren't only physical. If the Dragon God awakened… and realized he had killed his own 'children,' what would become of him?

"If we let him live and he rampages again… the entire Divine Realm will fall," urged the God King of Asura. "This isn't about revenge. It's about the survival of our world."

Wang Feng could feel the deep sorrow within the Light Dragon King.

He knew.

He knew how deeply they loved and were loyal to the Dragon God. They weren't just followers. They were his children, disciples, family.

But now… they had to choose.

"My Lord… you gave us everything. If we must die to protect you… then we will die without regret," said the Light Dragon King with unwavering conviction. "If you wish to kill him, then you must step over our corpses first."

The Dark Dragon King added:

"To us, the Dragon God is a father. No matter how mad he is now, no one is allowed to harm him."

The God King of Asura clenched his fists. "Then tell us—what should we do?"

The Light Dragon King was silent for a moment… then said bitterly:

"After today, our clan will fall. But please, treat what remains of us with kindness. Our Lord gave you so much… grant us a little mercy in return."

Without warning, the Light Dragon King turned and approached the Water Dragon King.

"Forgive me, Xiao Shui…"

A gentle light shone from his palm, and in an instant, the Water Dragon King collapsed—her breath extinguished.

"You…" the Dark Dragon King whispered, shocked, but understanding the intent.

The Light Dragon King looked at him. "Our partners… they fought their whole lives. I'm tired. Will you… stay with me, one last time?"

The Dark Dragon King bit his lip, then softly said:

"Is this the end of our love story… falling in love and killing each other?"

"Yes… and also the beginning of our final sacrifice."

The Dark Dragon King turned to the God Kings.

"Promise us… please protect our race."

The God King of Asura bowed deeply. "We promise. We will protect them."

The Light Dragon King looked toward the Dragon God. "My Lord… Xiaoguang can no longer protect you…"

He pulled the Dark Dragon King into a tight embrace. "Thank you… for everything."

In the next moment, two sorrowful dragon roars echoed across the heavens, and the two dragon kings vanished completely.

Afterward, Wang Feng and the woman returned to her chamber.

Wang Feng stood there in silence, still feeling the emotional residue of the scene they had just witnessed—the final sacrifice of the two Dragon Kings, and the invisible suffering behind their choice. The room was quiet, yet filled with something intangible. A grief that could not be spoken.

His body still closely entwined with hers—the embrace warm… but also heavy with unseen emotional pressure. He could feel her heartbeat—calm, steady, yet pulsing with a storm hidden beneath.

The woman didn't let go immediately. Instead, she gently rested her head on Wang Feng's shoulder—a gesture that was incredibly uncharacteristic for someone like her.

No words were exchanged for a while. But that embrace… it felt heavy.

Wang Feng said nothing.

The silver-haired woman finally spoke, her voice barely more than a whisper.

"They were my family."

Wang Feng nodded slowly. He could feel her body trembling slightly.

"I had already… come to see them as my own children."

She took a deep breath. "But now I know… I was the one who killed them…"

Her hand clenched into a fist behind Wang Feng. "Even if… I was in a crazed state. The truth is… I killed them with my own hands."

Wang Feng gently tightened his arms around her, returning the embrace fully.

They stayed like that, silent, only the sound of their breathing and heartbeats passing between them.

Until slowly, the woman released the embrace. She looked into Wang Feng's eyes from very close—her cold silver eyes now slightly wet, yet still strong.

Wang Feng stood dazed, still feeling the warmth lingering on his body.

"Forgive me. I showed you something disgraceful."

Wang Feng returned to his senses, looking deep into her eyes. Within them, he saw an ocean of sorrow hidden over thousands of years.

"You weren't disgraceful," he finally whispered. "You were just… human."

The woman furrowed her brow. "I'm not human."

"O-Oh, right. I-I mean…" Wang Feng tried to explain.

Her eyes softened slightly, clearly amused by his awkwardness.

Without thinking, Wang Feng reached out and gently wiped away a single tear from the corner of her eye.

"…I meant, you have a heart like a human. That's not a weakness."

The silver-haired woman continued to gaze at him in silence. Then slowly, her expression softened—though her eyes still held the chill of a winter sky: beautiful, but with a cold that wouldn't easily thaw.

Wang Feng quickly pulled his hand back, as if burned. "S-Sorry, I didn't mean to touch you like that."

The room fell silent again, with only the sound of their gradually steadying breaths. Wang Feng clenched his fist, trying to shake off the awkwardness that suddenly filled the space.

Then the woman spoke again, her voice soft—almost like an autumn breeze.

"It's alright… Wang Feng."

It was the first time she had said his name so quietly, so personally—without titles, without distance.

The silver-haired woman turned her face away, as if trying to find a view outside to shift the mood. But unfortunately, since this was a separate dimension, there were no windows, no sky, nothing but a silent, empty space.

A few seconds later, however, her voice turned cold and firm again, as if that emotional scene had never happened.

"Alright, I understand now what happened back then."

Wang Feng nodded, sensing the sudden shift in atmosphere.

"But," the woman continued, "I still cannot forgive the gods of the Divine Realm. They were entrusted by the Light Dragon King to protect the dragon clan. Yet they—"

"They only seemed to care about themselves, viewing the dragon clan as a threat to be eliminated for their own gain. If they truly cared, they would have carried this burden with us instead of leaving us in ruins."

Wang Feng understood what she felt. There was a deep disappointment—a feeling difficult to grasp for those who had never experienced betrayal or such immense loss.

"I know…" Wang Feng replied slowly. "But sometimes, in situations like these, we can't just rely on our own eyes. They might have had reasons we'll never truly know."

The woman looked at him, her gaze still firm. "Reason or not, that's not how they should've acted. They should've protected what we built, not destroyed it."

The air turned tense once more. Wang Feng felt awkward, but he knew there was something deeper behind her words. Her disappointment ran so deep, even the best words couldn't reach it.
