Chapter 23 - The System

My motion sense only made me more confused on what was happening. I was only able to use it in situations I had trained it for. A chaotic situation like this the ability would only be a burden and so I turned the ability off.

As my eyes adjusted to the light I gradually made out shapes. I saw a tusk of the cursed creature poking through the side of the MTV. On it was 7's body, skewered on it with his body limp.

My entire body tensed. The entire world felt like it was crumbling under me. I looked around for 13 and 49. I saw 13, who had hit the side of the vehicle violently. He was slowly moving though, trying to get up.

Eventually I found 49. She was under the scrap bent inwards and then 'down' by the impact. The scrap held her against the floor next to the hole despite the fact that the MTV had been flipped on it's side.

For the next few seconds everything was still, but then just as I noticed the dripping blood flowing down the scrap trapping 49 the cursed had moved.

13 was mere moments from standing up but the cursed had attempted to retrieve their tusk from being stuck inside the MTV and did it by ripping the MTV, throwing us into the air again for but a moment. 13 found something to grab to secure himself and I was still in my seat belt.

When we landed I tried to counter that terrible force but only partially succeeded, having my neck jolt to the side slightly.

While taking off my seat belt I looked back to see 13 still standing. He took only a moment before sprinting to the door in the back of the MTV.

I climbed over the sideways seat to run over alongside him. As I left the MTV I looked over towards the cursed which had attacked us.

It looked like a bull ripped straight from hell. It had red skin, with a face which I could only describe as pure rage which was only made more horrifying with the massive tusks it had. Its eyes looked odd, in its iris existed a pure white circle which looked as if it were vibrating like the string of an instrument.

It was currently 'cleaning' the corpse of 7 off it's tusk by scraping him off against the ground. It was as if it was saying that 7's body was dirty.

My breaths came out shallow, I could starkly believe what I saw. I thought 33 dying was bad enough on me but that wasn't even close to how I was feeling now.

13 slapped me lightly.

"Snap out of it, we need to come up with a plan."

I stood there for a second with not a single thought in my mind, I just couldn't process what was happening.

"So what if we have a plan? 7 is already dead and 49 is either already dead or dying. Even if we run it is easily faster then us."

"Then we hide, we survive. Its all we can do."

He grabbed me as he begun to run, I ran with him. The bull saw us though, and it chased.

As it swung it's tusk at us I ducked, but 13 wasn't as fortunate and got hit by the full force of the cursed creature's horrifying strength.

There was nowhere to hide, and no possibility of survival.

My body burned because of what I could only guess was either fear or anger. I turned around towards the bull and after I did it felt like my entire mind opened.

Countless sensations overcame me in that moment. The burden my mind had was instantly reduced to nothing. I could think clearly, like as if my entire life I lived in some kind of brain fog. My senses while just as sharp seemed much more real, each detail stuck out both in the moment and in my memory.

The monstrous bull swung at me once again and I was able to see the movement clearly. Time wasn't slowed down but none the less it was incomparably easier to dodge its attack then it had ever been before.

My body was stronger and filled with energy and responded to my call faster then I thought possible as I tried to dodge. The feeling of power far exceeded what I ever felt before but that didn't translate to reality as I moved just as fast as I always could. It was weird, to feel incredibly powerful but to be aware it was somewhat an illusion.

It meant I had to be careful.

I looked at the creature, I really looked at it. It seemed surprised I had dodged its attack so seemingly easily.

I wanted to kill it.

I needed to kill it.

My emotions were like a hurricane, but despite that that part I would call 'myself' was completely calm.

Some foundational change had happened to me I realised. It was obvious, but it felt like I held myself back from the realisation for some reason.

The bull realising the futility of its swings lunged forwards slightly in an attempt to bite me but I dodged the attack near effortlessly. I hadn't seen the attack coming however the moment the beast opened it's mouth I begun to dodge.

I hadn't decided to dodge away however, you see dodging towards it in this case would give me an opportunity to attack. With chilling grace I simply reached out my hand towards it's exposed eye.

Instead of just simply striking however I reached my hand on the corner, trying to reach behind due to the sheer size of the beast I had to reach nearly a third down my arm until I was in position.

The creatures eyelids blinked furiously but I resisted. Even when their eye rolled back in an attempt to escape my grasp I held firm. The creature flailed with all its might, trying to get me away however ironically the tusk I had oh so feared a few moments ago was a perfect spot to lock my legs around, ensuring I stayed in place.

It was truly remarkable what something even as tiny as me can do to something far larger then itself in the right circumstances. I felt the emotions of joy and malice take me as I smiled. The emotions were still in that state of detachment however, just one step away from me but still distinctively mine.

The beast begun to run towards the nearest tree, assumingly to squish me against it. I wouldn't give it a chance to however.

When I saw an opportunity I released the lock on my legs and then strained my legs to jump off, the string from the eye still held in my hand.

The eyelid shut tight as I pulled but it was in vein. The eyelid slid open as its eye popped out. I wasn't able to fully rip the eye out however so the had was left simply hanging off the side of its face.

It screeched so loud I wouldn't be surprised if it could shatter glass. Weirdly though in the moment my ears started to feel pain my hearing cut out entirely but at the same time my sight had grown even better.

I had heard when one of your senses disappear the others become stronger, but I was quite sure it wasn't supposed to be this drastic nor immediate.

'My blessing has awakened, some kind of mind or sensory type.'

It was ironic, I had lied to the others that my ability had been a sensory one but as it turned out I was actually telling the truth though I didn't know it yet.

The monster continued to wail and buck for a few seconds before calming itself and turning towards me.

I should have felt fear, but in my current state I was just focused on the beauty of the sky which was currently at sun set, the vibrant yellows fading into the darker reds the closer to the sun the light came from. I didn't dare look directly however. The sun was apparently extremely dangerous to look at so it would be a death sentence to appreciate the sun set.

Looking back at the beast as it begun to charge at me I couldn't help but consider the eye still left hanging on the side of its head.

I stood still, waiting for the perfect timing before I jumped. It wasn't particularly high but as the beast attempted to bite me its snout became the perfect foothold.

As I fell onto its back I reached over and grabbed the loose eyeball and faced it towards the setting sun. The movement was fluid and quick. It left no room for any counter from the creature.

After I jumped off I waited expectantly however the beast stood completely still. Then after a few moments it begun to twitch, soon after it broke into spastic fits. Its skin begun to melt and then fire spread over it as if the beast were made of oil.

Not long after the creature completely turned to dust then even the dust burned, leaving nothing in its wake.

I begun looking over to where 13 was hit towards but before I could begin walking a mysterious voice appeared in my head.
