Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: The Price of Greatness

The Collapse

Everything had been perfect.

Shun had dominated the match. He was at the peak of his form. Unstoppable.

And then—

His body gave out.

His legs buckled beneath him, and before anyone could react—

THUD.

Shun collapsed on the field.

The crowd, which had been roaring just moments ago, fell silent.

Medics rushed onto the pitch.

Shun's teammates sprinted to him.

Rika… already knew this would happen.

She had watched him play for days now.

She knew his limits.

But today, he had gone too far.

As the medics lifted him onto the stretcher, Rika clenched her fists.

"Idiot… why do you always push yourself this much?"

The Nursing Room

The entire team had gathered outside the nursing room.

Everyone waited. Tensed. Silent.

Shun still hadn't woken up.

The coach ran a hand through his hair. This wasn't the first time.

Renji leaned against the wall. Arms crossed.

Rika stood near the door, her eyes fixed on the floor.

She had seen him train until he collapsed.

She had seen him play through injuries.

But today was different.

He wasn't just pushing his body—he was breaking it.

"Alright, that's enough. You guys head back." The coach's voice broke the silence. "Renji, you stay with him."

The team hesitated, but they eventually left, throwing worried glances at the door.

Rika stayed for a second longer.

Then whispered, "Idiot."

And left.

A Silent Room

Renji sat beside the bed.

Shun was hooked up to an IV, his face pale.

Renji let out a long sigh.

"You really are a crazy bastard, aren't you?"

No response.

Renji leaned back, closing his eyes.

Then, suddenly—

A weak chuckle.

Renji's eyes snapped open.

Shun was awake.

And he was smirking.

"What… are you crying for me, Renji?"

Renji scoffed. "Tch. Who the hell would cry for you?"

Shun turned his head slightly, his voice tired but teasing.

"You stayed here for me, huh? That's cute."

Renji grabbed a pillow and slammed it onto Shun's face.

"Shut up and go back to sleep, dumbass."

Shun laughed weakly, then sighed.

His eyes wandered toward the ceiling.

"Hey, Renji…"

Renji glanced at him. "What?"

"…Did I win?"

Renji stared at him for a moment, then smirked.

"You didn't just win."

"You owned them."

Shun closed his eyes.

"Good."

And just like that, he fell asleep again.
