Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: Maybe He Likes Medusa Too

Chapter 53: Maybe He Likes Medusa Too

Boom!

A massive pillar of fire swept across, sending Green Python flying like a broken kite. She crashed heavily into a sand dune, kicking up clouds of dust.

Gu He and the other two watched in cold sweat. Though they didn't know the identity of the man and the beast, both were Dou Sovereigns, even stronger than Yun Yun. Yet, such powerful beings couldn't even last a few moves against this masked man.

Thankfully, they hadn't acted rashly earlier!

Feng Li and Yan Shi exchanged a glance, relief written all over their faces. If they had made a move, they might've been nothing but ashes by now.

The four Dou Kings of the Snake People glanced at one another. For now, this person seemed like a friend, not a foe definitely a good thing for them.

Not far away, Green Python struggled to rise from the pit, her once fair arms now scorched black. The thick aroma of burning flesh filled the air.

It wasn't hers. The smell came from the Eight Winged Black Serpent Emperor, White Fang.

Caught by the Spiritual Flame, White Fang had been doomed from the start. The flame, formed from pure soul power, was the exact weakness of magical beasts, whose souls were naturally their most fragile point.

White Fang had pushed his Dou Qi to the limit, desperately trying to extinguish the flames. While it did somewhat reduce the fire, the effect was limited.

However, Lu Bu did not deal a killing blow. His goal was simply to stop them from taking Qing Lin. Injuring them was fine, but killing them would mean irreconcilable enmity with the Heavenly Snake Mansion. Of course, he also simply found them annoying.

"Get lost!" Lu Bu waved his sleeve, his tone full of disdain.

"Goodbye!"

Green Python didn't waste any time. She knew the man had shown mercy; if they lingered, it would only invite disaster.

White Fang grimaced, his eight wings lightly flapping as his smoke covered body slowly rose into the air. Together with Green Python, he retreated toward the direction of the Heavenly Snake Mansion.

Both severely injured, they were in no condition to continue their mission. Once they returned, they would undoubtedly face scoldings from their superiors.

"Damn it, that guy's insane! What did I ever do to him?" White Fang cursed bitterly once they were far from the Snake People's territory.

Green Python, her body glowing green as she slowly healed her burns, paid him no mind. As for White Fang? She figured he could molt a few more times to recover.

"Jie, maybe he likes Medusa too," Green Python said mockingly.

"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!" White Fang roared, infuriated by the thought of such a powerful rival. "Didn't you hear what he said? He's here to fight us, the Heavenly Snake Mansion!"

"Sure, but you didn't say that earlier," Green Python retorted disdainfully. White Fang could only shriek in frustration, unable to argue he had, after all, lost.

...

Snake People's Sacred City

Watching the fleeing figures of Green Python and White Fang, Gu He and his group dared not linger. Calling Yun Yun, they quickly flew toward the desert's edge.

Yun Yun cast a deep glance at Lu Bu before lightly tapping the magical beast beneath her. The four humans and their mount turned into streaks of light and vanished.

The Snake People sighed in relief. With the strong enemies gone, the immediate threat had passed.

Lu Bu glanced at the four Dou Kings of the Snake People, raising his hand to toss a jade bottle toward Yue Mei.

"Apologies for the disturbance. This Dou Ling Pill is a token of compensation. Farewell."

With that, the Purple Cloud Wings on his back flapped, and he flew off in the direction Yun Yun's group had taken.

The Snake People watched him leave, then turned their gazes to the jade bottle in Yue Mei's hands. Scratching their heads, they muttered, "Well, I guess it's something."

At that moment, several streaks of light shot toward them, accompanied by rolling waves of powerful auras.

"Mo Ba Si, Hua She, Yue Mei, Yan Ci where are the enemies?"

"Jie, you're right on time!" ×4

...

Above the Desert

Gu He's group flew swiftly through the sky, their powerful auras and wind pressure striking terror into the nearby Snake People settlements, who thought the humans were launching an attack.

Suddenly, Yun Yun slowed down.

"Yun Sect Master?"

"There's an enemy chasing us a Dou Sovereign from the Snake People," Yun Yun said calmly, her words a blatant lie.

"What?" Gu He and the others were shocked.

"You go on ahead. I'll cover the rear."

"No, you can't "

"My speed is fast; they won't be able to catch me."

After a moment of silence, the trio nodded reluctantly and continued their flight, taking the magical beast with them. Its speed couldn't match Yun Yun's, and keeping it around would only slow her down.

Yun Yun hovered in place, removing her black robe. In her hand appeared a peculiar longsword, its light faintly shimmering. Her expression turned cold.

In the night sky, a faint green glow appeared, followed closely by a human figure.

Lu Bu, now unmasked and smiling, flew toward her.

"You and that grin!" Yun Yun scoffed, thrusting her sword toward his eyes. But the attack was laughably slow.

Lu Bu pinched the blade between two fingers, gently pulling it away as he drew her into his arms.

"Yun Yun, it's been a while. Did you miss me?" Lu Bu chuckled. He thought to himself that if Gu He knew he had not only lost the Heavenly Flame but also the woman he liked to another man, he might cry himself to death.

Yun Yun rested in his arms for a moment before pushing him away with a look of disdain. "No."

Then why were you waiting for me?

Lu Bu rolled his eyes. Women were so complicated. Plastering on a grin, he poured out sweet words until Yun Yun's icy expression finally softened. Coaxing her halfway, she leaned back into his arms.

As they embraced, Lu Bu lightly caressed her slender waist, his brow lifting in surprise. "Your strength… You've reached the four star Dou Sovereign level?"

"Is there a problem?" Yun Yun retorted, her tone challenging. She had been close to a breakthrough for months; it wasn't unusual for her to advance now.

"Jie, no problem at all." Lu Bu chuckled, pulling out a jade bottle and holding it up to her. "This is a Huangji Pill I made. It's just what you need."

Before he left for the desert, he had prepared three pills: two Huangji Pills and one Dou Ling Pill. This was the last one.

"I've already taken one. Gu He gave me one as payment," Yun Yun said as she inspected the bottle.

"Huh?"

"Just kidding." She stroked his hair, her tone soft. "Gu He offered one as payment for this mission."

"Wait, isn't he from your sect?" Lu Bu asked, puzzled.

"Business is business."

"Jie, that's amazing!"

Lu Bu grinned. Yun Yun's attitude toward Gu He seemed indifferent at best.

"Lu Bu, I need to leave," Yun Yun said quietly, resting her hand on his chest. "If I take too long, they'll come looking. Gu He can be quite persistent."

"Alright."

Leaning in, Lu Bu planted a light kiss on her cheek. "I'll be heading to the capital soon. If anything comes up, I'll find you."

With a faint blush on her face, Yun Yun nodded. Something in his serious tone made her heart tighten. She suddenly felt a strange sense of unease.

"Alright. I'll wait for you," she said softly before leaping into the air. Her graceful figure disappeared into the night sky.

Lu Bu watched her go before turning in another direction. He needed to find a safe place to refine the Green Lotus Core Flame. Carrying it around like this made even him uneasy.
