Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

I stared at myself in the mirror, struggling to keep my eyes open. My eyelids felt like bricks. I glanced over at the clock.

6:10 A.M.

This is the earliest I've ever woken up…

"UGHHHHH" I groaned, ruffling my hair in frustration, messing up my hair. "Dammit.. Is this what working feels like..? Should I just become a housewife instead..?" I muttered with a sigh.

"I expect a special reward every. Single. Night. In my bedroom."

His words from yesterday echoed in my mind, sending a cold shiver down my spine again. I shook my head quickly.

"No, Annette, you can't let that monster win you over so easily…" I told my reflection, trying to hype myself up.

I took my usual morning pills and tied my hair back into a slick ponytail, buttoning up my blazer.

"Woah, I look professional," I said, striking a few poses in the mirror.

"Let's take a few photos—" I started, reaching out for my phone.

*Knock Knock*

"Madam? Master told you to hurry up..! They're at the gate!" a maid called out from outside my door.

"Coming!" I called back, sighing. Can't this dude even wait for a second? I quickly fixed my hair one last time and stepped out of the bathroom.

I was just about to leave the room when I caught sight of my monkey plushie sitting on my bed, staring at me with its big, sad eyes.

I swear it looked heartbroken.

I walked up to the plushie sitting on my nightstand, smiling as I gently patted its head like it was alive.

"Don't worry, I'll be back," I said, giving it a little smooch on its forehead, before

dashing out of the room.

I rushed outside and immediately spotted the engine running, the thick smoke making me scrunch up my nose in disgust.

He's doing this on purpose..!

"I'm gonna throw up.. seriously.." I coughed, covering my nose.

Vlad chuckled at my reaction, stepping out to open the car door for me.

"Hop in. It's your first day of school," he teased.

I scoffed, "Yeah, yeah…"

Sliding into the seat, I settled myself, stealing a quick glance at Vlad as he got in beside me.

"Hey, Vlad?" I called out with a soft smile on my lips.

"Yes, ma'am?" He replied with a bored expression.

"I forgot to thank you for the plushie.. I have to say, your taste is quite… unique." I said, raising a brow.

"Thanks. That monkey reminded me of you." Vlad replied with a smirk.

My jaw dropped. The audacity..!

I crossed my arms, brows furrowed. "Did you just call me a monkey?!"

"I don't know. Do you see any other monkeys here?" He said innocently.

"Yeah, a big one!"

Vlad let out a dramatic gasp, "How dare you–"

"Sir, Ma'am. We've arrived." The driver interrupted, causing both of us to fall silent.

Vlad gave me a pout and crossed his arms, looking away.

"You're acting like a little girl.." I said.

"Meanie," He muttered, still pouting

"Okay, okay sorry…" I said, giving in.

"Hehe, there we go." He grinned before stepping out of the car. A second later, he opened the door for me.

"Wow, you were mad at me just now, and you're still opening the door for me? How kind of you," I said with heavy sarcasm.

"I would never let my precious wife open a car door all by herself," He winked.

I cringed. Just a moment ago, he was pouting—now, he was flirting. "This guy switches personalities like clothes," I mumbled as I got out of the car.

"I do have a lot of clothes, you know." Vlad said with a smug grin.

"Let's hope some of them transform into extra brain cells," I muttered under my breath, walking toward the building.

My eyes widened as I looked up at the towering structure before me.

"Woah.." I whispered in awe. The letters "V&K" gleamed at the top of the massive building.

"Wow, what a cool building you own, Mr. Vlad~!!" Vlad mimicked in a high-pitched, girly voice behind me.

I scoffed, "I don't even sound like that!"

"Well, your face said exactly that," he replied.

I rolled my eyes, "Let's just go in already! We're getting late!"

"Fine, fine." he said, walking alongside me toward the entrance.
