Chapter 100 - Chapter 100: The All-Rounded Uchiha

Chapter 100: The All-Rounded Uchiha

The fact that members of the Uchiha clan had joined Root surprised Ishiro—but it was also extremely valuable intel.

Traditionally, the Uchiha were confined to the Konoha Military Police Force, meaning shinobi from other nations rarely encountered Sharingan in the field. But now that some Uchiha were in Root, it meant the Sharingan was about to re-emerge on the front lines of the ninja world.

That, however, was a problem for later.

Ishiro's current situation was a lot more urgent.

The Root team he had previously observed hadn't given up their pursuit. In fact, they had begun searching the surrounding area.

Ishiro wasn't immediately worried—his sensory range was large, and he had kept his distance. Normally, that would be enough for the Root squad to search fruitlessly in the wrong direction.

But with Sharingan in play, Ishiro couldn't be sure they wouldn't find a trail. It was best to withdraw immediately.

He regretted not bringing his three subordinates along.

With Sharingan present, Camouflage Technique was effectively useless, and his stealth strategy was ruined. Now, everything was complicated.

If his teammates were here, they could've gone four versus four—maybe ambushed the Sharingan user and taken him out quickly.

Who knew how many Sharingan were in Root? Even if this was the only one, capturing it would be a huge achievement.

But regrets were meaningless. Ishiro knew he couldn't take on four enemies alone.

His current strength placed him in the average range of jōnin. He had no glaring weaknesses, but also no dominant strengths.

He was like a six-sided warrior—well-rounded, but lacking finishing moves or strong defenses against specialists.

Uchiha were renowned for their taijutsu prowess, and Sharingan enhanced it further. Ishiro had seen it in the original story. Even a one-on-one matchup would be risky—facing one Uchiha plus three other Root members was out of the question.

So Ishiro's first reaction was: retreat.

But then he made a mistake.

If he had stayed still, the Root squad might've searched and left after finding nothing. After all, they wouldn't expect their target to be observing from over four kilometers away. This wasn't Byakugan or the Aburame clan's bugs.

But Ishiro moved—and that was all it took.

One of the Root members, apparently a Wind Release user, sensed something unusual. After signaling his team, he began heading directly toward Ishiro's position.

Ishiro only noticed after they had closed half the distance. His sensory jutsu had deactivated when he moved and, lost in thought over the Sharingan, he hadn't been watching their movements.

They had gone from 4 kilometers down to 2.

Alarmed, Ishiro immediately accelerated. If he didn't run now, they'd catch up.

Knowing the direction of Root's main force, Ishiro ran away from it.

Upon seeing this, the Root team paused briefly, then one member split off—likely to report back.

Damn it, Ishiro thought. This is the downside of being solo. He had no one to split off, while the enemy could maintain a strong chase squad and send for reinforcements.

He had to assume other Root or even Ame squads might be nearby. Even a small disturbance could trap him.

With no choice, Ishiro pushed himself harder.

His taijutsu training had improved recently, and as he increased his speed, one of the three pursuers began to lag.

"Hm?"

Interesting.

Still running, Ishiro casually formed two hand seals and Body Flickered 50 meters ahead. After running a bit more, he flickered again—repeating this a few times.

Now even the remaining two pursuers began to struggle.

They glanced at each other, then both began using Body Flicker themselves. The Uchiha among them only needed two hand seals, and could even flicker twice consecutively.

Soon, the chase turned into a high-speed pursuit—one fleeing, three following.

Ishiro led the pack. The Uchiha was second, and was closing the gap. The last two, however, were falling behind.

Perfect, Ishiro thought. This reminded him of an old dueling tactic from a book or show back in his previous life—separate the enemy by speed, then take them out one by one.

But the first one to reach him would be the Uchiha—and that was the tricky part.

Uchiha were known for their:

1. Taijutsu, enhanced by Sharingan—close combat was out.

2. Fire Release—not a problem; Ishiro excelled at Water Release.

3. Genjutsu via Sharingan—that was the wildcard.

He considered faking a genjutsu hit and sneak-attacking when the Uchiha let his guard down.

But no—that wouldn't work. Sharingan could see chakra flow, so he wouldn't be fooled.

I'll have to fight head-on…

Ishiro's thoughts were interrupted by kunai flying at him from behind.

Damn, forgot! The Uchiha are also terrifying with shuriken…

That gave Ishiro real pause. As a ninjutsu specialist, could he even find time to weave hand seals against a master of shuriken trick shots?

No more running.

He dodged two kunai and then avoided a follow-up wave using preemptive movement.

Now just 100 meters apart, Ishiro began forming hand seals.

At first, the Uchiha didn't react. But when he noticed Ishiro kept going beyond two seals, he immediately grew alert.

Ishiro wasn't running anymore—he was ready to fight.

The Uchiha began his own hand seals—preparing Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique. It was fast, and while he didn't know what Ishiro was casting, it didn't matter. This was his fastest technique.

Ishiro deliberately slowed his seals to bait the Uchiha into casting first.

As the Uchiha finished his Great Fireball, he grinned.

Got him, he thought—only for that grin to freeze.

Ishiro vanished.

He had never intended to cast a real jutsu—he had faked the hand seals to delay the Uchiha's flicker timing, then Body Flickered away again.

Damn it! I got played!

The Uchiha quickly canceled his Fireball and flickered again.

He was furious.

He hadn't even wanted to join Root. Despite being a full jōnin, he didn't hold any commanding position in Root. Worse, the other agents secretly watched him, making him feel like a prisoner.

This mission was his chance to prove himself.

Now one teammate had gone to report back, and the other two had fallen behind. If he could kill Ishiro alone, then maybe—just maybe—he could claw his way up the ranks.

And then Ishiro had mocked him.

That bastard!

Fueled by rage, the Uchiha chased harder, activating his Sharingan to watch Ishiro's chakra flow.

You won't fool me again.

Ishiro knew it too. That trick only worked once. Now, he focused on dragging out the chase, keeping distance from the Uchiha and his teammates.

They closed in again—down to 100 meters.

Ishiro knew what was coming: another shuriken wave.

Sure enough, five whistling kunai flew toward him.

Prepared this time, he Body Flickered diagonally, dodging cleanly and avoiding any secondary attack angles.

But that dodge allowed the Uchiha to close in to 50 meters. At that range, one more flicker and they'd be face-to-face.

It was now or never.

Ishiro began forming hand seals.

The Uchiha, now wary, sensed the intent immediately.

He's really casting now.

He also began casting Great Fireball again.

But something was wrong.

Ishiro's seals were fast—blazingly fast. Over five seals per second. Among jōnin, that was already considered top-tier.

Even though Ishiro started first and his jutsu required 8 seals, the Uchiha's Great Fireball only needed 6 seals. They would complete nearly simultaneously.

But this time, the Uchiha wasn't relieved—he was alarmed.

Because he recognized Ishiro's technique.

It's not an area attack—it's a focused strike. A single-target killer.

Torrential Rain Technique.

Great Fireball wouldn't stop it.

Crap, no time to switch!

The Uchiha gritted his teeth. He had no choice but to finish his Fireball—it might at least obscure Ishiro's vision and buy him a split second to dodge.

But he was no longer confident.

He had underestimated the "ordinary" jōnin before him.

And now, that miscalculation might cost him his life.
