He knew the position he was in. He knew that he could completely destroy Caliste if he wanted. But the reason Caliste was refusing wasn't because of ego or anything like that.
It was because he did not want to see the Demon King, not after meeting with Liana. There was a chance that he might feel her presence, and that would make things very hard for him in the future.
