It was well past midnight when the first noise shattered the silence. Micah's head jerked up from where it rested against the side of the door. An echo of rapid footsteps resonated in the hallway. Then came the unmistakable sound of someone knocking on a door, not just knocking, but banging.
"Clara! Open up!" a voice shouted, clearly agitated. "Clara, are you in there?!"
Micah tilted his head, listening hard. Outside, the murmur of crowds grew louder and louder.
Then there was a loud gasp from the crowd.
Micah didn't need to see it to know what had just happened. They found Clara, her manager, and Leo's own manager, Hurt. He could hear the rapid-fire clicks of camera shutters.
Micah closed his eyes, exhaling slowly through his nose.
It was a good thing they had fled that room. The ruckus was even crazier than what was said in the novel. Probably his involvement in giving the key card had changed the chain of events.
After an hour, the noise from outside died down.
