Chapter 9 - The Guild

"Let's go back." Alex ordered doggy.

There were small cuts on his hands and legs, including the novice armour that was almost in tatters.

Facing a beast tide alone was not something even a normal S rank profession would do. It would be a different story if they were the son of the goddess of life or death.

Though, the defence of doggy was on par with a rank 4 beasts after absorbing all the corpses it was still not able to take on a whole tide's attack.

There were several times when the attacks had broken some of its layers. There were just so many beasts that would attack from all the sides that even Alex was almost killed. The scorpion tails had always targeted only a particular part of the cocoon to attacks which cause it to cave in, no matter how much doggy repaired it.

This attack had also pierced into the innermost layer a little from where he could look at the majesty of that sharp needle that could end his life.

To avoid this situation, the cocoon was wrapped by a double layer of roots through which he had gained a sense of security, but the bombardment of these mindless beasts caused him to fall several times which caused the small bruises on his body.

Currently, they were heading back to the base for rest.

....

At the base.

When Alex arrived at the lodging, he saw everyone in a rather heated discussion. Not being interested in the gossip, he hurried off to take his identification plaque.

The identification plaque was no different from a normal ID card, but it also had some more benefits.

First, every beast killed by the professionals would give them merit points and these points could be used to buy equipment, weapons and even rent a profession for help.

Secondly, these plaques are more useful when in a party, as the points are divided accurately according to the contribution of each party members, making the distribution free of any unnecessary fights.

Thirdly, they can be used as SOS for calling help or report the situation.

After hearing about the details of the identification plaque, Alex could not help but cry, as he had killed more than a thousand beasts in these two days.

Just how many merit points did he lose?

They were worth more than five thousand points. With this much, he could buy a decent armour for himself and potions that could help him recover mana as well as safe his life in dire moments.

Though the small bruises on his body weren't painful, but they were slowly stinging for some reason.

"Why does it feel that those beasts are mocking me even after dying?!"

I'll wipe that whole nest sooner or later. Just you wait.

Alex had arrived in front of a building that emitted bright lights and its entrance was frolicking with people. It was an aged building and there were various cracks that looked similar to beast claw attacks. There was a huge signboard written with ink black letters 'GUILD'.

"Looks like there have been tough times till here too."

He sighed and entered the building.

The almost crumbling appearance outside had fooled Alex compared to the sight he saw inside. If the outside looked like a hatched house made from mud, then the interior was similar to that of a castle of heavens.

The grandiose inside was just too heaven defying. The stairs that were going to the next floor had sofas and even lounges which were obviously filled with higher level professions who had come here to take a break. There were beauties with sharpened blades, men with killing intent, and beauties again serving the people on their tables.

By serving, it meant to be served food and drinks they had ordered. In the middle of all this, at the end of the hall, there was another beauty with bunny ears who had a light smile on her face.

Alex was bone hard at the mention of bunny ea- before he knew it, he had already arrived in front of the bunny beauty.

"Ad astra abyss-" She spoke.

"Huh?"

"How may I be of your service, sir?" The lady asked with her soft angelic voice.

"..." Alex was silent for a moment.

"I'm here for an ID plaque."

"Are you a new recruit?" She asked with her smile widening a little.

"...Yes" Alex nodded.

SWOOSH!

At a wave of her hand, a button of the size of a thumb appeared and floated towards him.

"Please raise your arm." She spoke with her angel voice.

Alex complied with the instructions.

The ID plaque can only be bonded with one person, and it's practically easy to recognize.

With the beauty's care his index finger was pricked, and before the blood could gush out on the table, the ID plaque was swiftly made contact with it.

"Have a triumphant day." She chuckled at the sight of Alex's expression.

"Thanks." Alex nodded firmly.

He had just turned around to return when he saw a board filled with various notes of papers with different colour grades.

Looking at his gaze, the receptionist shook his side.

"Sir, you'll have to reach level 3 for receiving the quests of guild."

"Oh...that's a good thing, otherwise a lot of new recruits would die without any experience."

"..." The receptionist couldn't help but give a side glance at his smiling face that had obviously charmed her a little.

Without any further delay, he rushed off to the quest board.
