MAXUS'S POV
The following day, Cairn and the princess set out to hunt and hopefully find both game and the ingredients she needed to make the ointment we required.
Of the two, I felt the latter was more achievable, unfortunately.
I spent most of the morning calculating the grain we had available and planning how to deal with the problem. We had food for now, but if we didn't find a solution soon, the coming months would be difficult.
When I heard the hunters had returned, I was informed that they hadn't caught anything. Which I found unsurprising.
I waited for further updates, which I expected to hear from Cairn when he came to see me.
The princess and a monitor came to my tent. I was going through the paperwork that Letizia and I had done earlier. I got up from my desk and went to see them.
I noticed that Carin wasn't with the princess and wondered why. "Where is Cairn?" I asked.
