Rhys still hadn't recovered from the shock.
His eyes burned with restrained fury as he stormed toward Anaya, grabbing her arm and forcefully pulling her away from Sorayah.
"Just stop it, Anaya!" he barked, his voice trembling with anger.
"Stop what?" Anaya shot back, her voice laced with defiance as she jerked her arm out of his grip. "That I'm reassuring your dear friend here that I'll take care of you better than some woman who will never return the love you so desperately long for?" Her words were laced with venom, her gaze unflinching as she stared him down.
"You're…" Rhys began, his voice catching in his throat, as though he couldn't find the right word for what she had become.
"Sister-in-law," Anaya cut in smoothly, raising her chin with pride. "Why is your heart so cold, Rhys? Am I not beautiful enough for you?" she asked, her voice softening slightly, though her eyes now drifted longingly back to Sorayah.
Sorayah blinked as she kept mute.
