Chapter 53 - Alliance Forged With Ink and Iron (part 4)

"So," Wrye started. "Where am I sleeping, boss?"

The contract was still warm between Auri's fingers, the ink on his signature not even fully set yet, when the mercenary threw the question as if he was requesting extra sugar in his coffee.

Auri blinked once, twice, then squinted his eyes at Wrye. "Why are you asking me that? Don't you already have a place to stay?"

With a dry chuckle, Wrye rubbed the back of his neck, his gaze drifting toward the window. "It's kind of embarrassing to admit this, but I haven't found a place to crash yet."

"Wait, what?"

Wrye crossed his arms with a half-smile, leaning against the doorframe as if to make himself comfortable. "We met at the camel yard, remember? The thing is, I'd just arrived today, and I was supposed to find somewhere to stay after, well, you know, that whole 'free restoration' raffle. Then, I got swept up in all this—guess I forgot to book a room."
