Chapter 58 - The Oblivious Superman

Kara lounged back into the couch, her arms behind her head, still smirking to herself over the conversation with Rogue and Gwen. The thought of Clark running around Earth, completely unaware that his villain problem was really just a cosmic love triangle — or maybe a whole love hexagon — was too perfect. She let out a soft laugh to herself, eyes gleaming.

Far away, on another Earth, a massive battle raged between Superman and Darkseid. They clashed in a sky filled with crackling energy, each blow strong enough to shatter concrete and send shockwaves across the city. Darkseid swung his Omega beams, missing by inches as Superman barreled toward him, delivering a crushing blow to Darkseid's jaw that sent him careening into a nearby skyscraper.

But as Superman raised his fists to follow up the attack, he paused, blinking rapidly, and then sneezed so hard that the sonic boom shattered nearby windows.

Darkseid emerged from the rubble, dusting debris off his armor, tilting his head slightly. "Are you alright, honey?" His tone was calm, almost gentle under the usual gravel of his voice.

Superman rubbed at his nose, confused. "Yeah… I think someone was thinking something… negative about me."

Darkseid raised an eyebrow, watching him carefully, as though deeply concerned. "You sure you're okay to continue the fight, dear?"

Superman adjusted his cape, straightening his back with a serious expression. "Yeah, I'm going to whoop your butt."

Darkseid's lips twitched almost imperceptibly. "I bet you'd like to."

Superman didn't even blink at the suggestive tone, launching himself back at Darkseid like nothing was strange about the exchange.

As the two titans collided again in an explosion of energy, Darkseid's gaze lingered on Superman's face longer than necessary, before hurling him back across the skyline.

Back in Kara's mansion, she had no idea her cousin was currently dealing with his own brand of insanity. She sat forward, leaning her elbows on her knees, suddenly thoughtful as Mystique entered the room, her posture as graceful and precise as ever. Rogue and Gwen turned toward her as Mystique stopped near the center of the room, her sharp gaze moving from Kara to Rogue.

"It's time we move to the next phase," Mystique said plainly, her arms folding neatly across her chest.

Kara tilted her head, intrigued. "What's next?"

Mystique met Kara's gaze directly. "We approach Magneto."

Rogue shifted her weight on the couch, sitting up straighter. "You think he'll buy what we're selling?"

"He'll believe what he wants to believe," Mystique replied smoothly. "All we have to do is give him the story he wants to hear."

Kara leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand, eyes sharp now. "And what story is that?"

Mystique's eyes flicked to Rogue. "That Rogue is ready to sacrifice herself. To absorb his powers temporarily, take on his burden, so Magneto can realize his dream of mutant supremacy. With Rogue at his side, ready to prove her loyalty."

Rogue's brows knit together slightly, though her voice stayed level. "And he's desperate enough to believe it?"

Mystique's lips pressed into a faint line, her face unreadable. "More than desperate. After Senator Kelly's death, Magneto has been scrambling to reassert his position. He's moving forward with the plan to turn world leaders into mutants. He needs someone to believe in him, and that's where you two come in."

Kara's eyes gleamed, an amused smile tugging at the edge of her lips. "So you want Rogue to play the martyr, and me to play… what? The powerhouse ready to make mutant supremacy a reality?"

"Exactly," Mystique said, giving Kara a nod.

Kara stood, pacing slowly in front of them, her arms crossed loosely as she thought it through. "You know… it's actually kind of fun." She turned back to them, her expression brightening. "Getting to play the double agent. The whole 'Oh Magneto, let me help you rule the world' routine."

Mystique tilted her head slightly. "Think you can sell it?"

"Oh, please," Kara said, tossing her hair over one shoulder, her confidence palpable. "I just finished running a masterclass in Green Tea Bitch behavior. I've got this."

Rogue leaned back against the couch, one arm over the backrest as she watched Kara. "So, what's your role, then?"

Kara smirked faintly, tilting her head. "I'll tell him I'm here to help him make mutant supremacy happen. That I think he's right. That humans are weak and need to be forced to accept mutants."

"And he'll believe you?" Gwen asked, voice calm, but clearly enjoying Kara stepping fully into her role.

"He'll believe me," Kara said firmly. "I'll make him want to believe me. I mean, who's going to say no to someone with my kind of power backing them up?"

Mystique's eyes glinted with approval, though her expression remained carefully neutral. "Exactly what we need him to think."

Kara paced again, glancing out the large window as the city lights glittered outside. "So we play along. Act like we're all in on this plan to turn world leaders into mutants. Pretend we're there to help him build his mutant utopia."

Rogue's gaze sharpened. "And when the time comes, we take it all down."

Kara turned back, her eyes burning with excitement. "And I'll be there to slap Magneto so hard he forgets what decade it is."

Mystique allowed herself a faint nod. "That will be our moment. When he trusts you both enough to show you everything."

Gwen stood, stretching, her body loose and casual. "So when's the meeting?"

Mystique's gaze flicked toward the door. "Soon. I've arranged for an invitation. Magneto's eager to recruit more allies, especially ones that make him look strong."

Kara took a deep breath, exhaling slowly, a sly smile playing at her lips. "Good. Because I've been waiting to play the villain for a long time."

Rogue looked Kara over carefully, a small spark of admiration flickering in her eyes. "You're enjoying this more than you thought, aren't you?"

Kara walked past her, pausing to meet Rogue's gaze, her expression amused but sharp. "You think I'm going to waste all this manipulation training? This is going to be fun."

Mystique stepped forward, her voice steady. "Then we're agreed. We go in, we play our roles, and we get close enough to end this from the inside."

Kara gave one last glance out the window, the city glowing like a sea of lights below. "Let's give Magneto the show of his life."

And as the three women stood there, their plan solidified and their roles clear, the first move in the war between L.E.Y.A. and Magneto's Brotherhood was about to be played—carefully, beautifully, and with all the flair of the villains they were becoming.
