Chapter 82 - Chapter 83: The Mutant's Dead End

After some playful banter, Logan finally remembered the purpose of his visit.

"Chino, I want to introduce you to someone."

Professor X controlled his wheelchair, moving forward with a gentle smile on his face as he spoke.

"Hello, Mr. Chino. I've been wanting to meet you for a long time. I am Professor X, Charles Francis Xavier."

"Hello, Charles. My name is Chino."

Chino smiled and shook his hand briefly.

"An Easterner?"

Charles was somewhat surprised. In fluent Chinese, he said, "I see."

"Yes, Charles, your Chinese is quite impressive."

Hearing his mother tongue in another world made Chino feel a deep sense of familiarity, and a genuine smile appeared on his face.

"I have a strong interest in Eastern culture and history, so I studied Chinese for a while."

Charles explained with a smile, his eyes filled with admiration and respect for Eastern traditions.

Even though Chino knew Charles was deliberately trying to build rapport, he couldn't help but develop a favorable impression of him.

The two soon began discussing Eastern culture, customs, and cuisine.

Charles was indeed knowledgeable, able to converse fluently on any topic.

Meanwhile, Logan and Scott stood to the side, completely lost in the conversation, looking confused.

Jean could understand a few words but struggled to keep up. One moment they were discussing favorite foods, and the next, they were talking about landscapes.

After a long while, Chino finally stopped and, noticing Charles had begun to sweat slightly, he smiled and instructed the maids to prepare some tea and wine.

"Charles, I truly enjoyed our conversation. Let's move to a different place to discuss business."

This time, Chino spoke in English, his expression sincere.

"I would be delighted."

Charles sighed in relief and smiled in response, knowing that the real conversation was about to begin.

The maids soon arrived with an assortment of snacks, tea, and juice. The alcohol was specifically prepared for Logan.

"Kid, you really know me well," Logan said happily, opening a bottle of whiskey and taking a long swig.

Jean was intrigued by the Eastern pastries. She took a small bite, and a satisfied expression appeared on her face.

Seeing how Chino had previously been engaged in friendly conversation with the professor, Scott also lowered his guard. Sitting beside Jean, he picked up a piece of pastry and started chewing.

"Charles, try some Eastern green tea."

In his past life, Chino had loved tea—green tea, black tea, white tea—he had tried them all.

"It's quite good," Charles praised, taking a gentle sip.

After finishing his tea, Charles finally got to the point.

"Mr. Chino, I would like to ask you about the feasibility of building a city in the desert, as you previously mentioned."

Chino was not surprised and responded, "If you could control all mutants, there would be a one percent chance."

"I can't do that," Charles shook his head solemnly.

It wasn't just his morals and ideals that prevented him—it was also the reality that if he ever attempted such a thing, both humans and mutants alike would never forgive him.

The trust he had spent years building would be completely shattered.

"Then at best, the chances are one in a thousand—perhaps even less."

Chino spoke mercilessly, offering Charles no room for illusions as he revealed the harsh reality.

"Building a city in the desert is the simplest part. Do you have the money? Supporting tens of thousands of people with food, sanitation, and housing requires astronomical sums."

"Furthermore, do you think the nations of this world would allow mutants to unite? Every mutant organization is backed by a government, including yours."

"I am not," Charles said urgently, his expression serious. "I am only cooperating with governments in hopes of integrating mutants into human society peacefully."

Chino looked into Charles' eyes and realized that this version of Professor X was a true idealist. A complicated feeling rose in his heart.

He did not hate idealists. In fact, the world only improved because of them.

"Then do you know why this country tolerates your existence? You are the most powerful telepath in the world. Do you really not know that this country secretly captures mutants?"

"They are researching weapons capable of wiping out all mutants in one strike. The only reason they tolerate Xavier's School is that they fear you might retaliate and bring humanity down with you."

Chino's words were like daggers piercing straight into Charles' heart.

"…"

Charles remained silent, his once bright eyes dimming.

Deep down, he had always known the truth. But he had always been avoiding it, deceiving himself.

He had always hoped that, through the efforts of the X-Men, humans would learn to accept mutants and change their perceptions. But now, with Chino exposing the truth so bluntly, a sense of powerlessness and despair overwhelmed him.

Logan lost interest in drinking. Though he had no memories of his past, he had spent enough time at Xavier's School to feel at ease there. He also knew how much the professor had done for him.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

The sound of high heels echoed.

Scott was stunned to see Jean acting strangely.

"So according to you, Magneto's path is the only correct one—to wage war against humanity?"

Jean stepped in front of Chino, her hair floating unnaturally.

"Jean, calm down…"

Charles, snapping back to reality, noticed something was wrong and prepared to reinforce her mental seal.

"Wait, Charles."

Chino raised his hand to stop him. He hadn't expected to accidentally awaken a fraction of the Phoenix Force. Nevertheless, he chose to answer her question.

"Of course not. Magneto's path leads only to destruction. If he dares start a war, I'll be the first to kill him."

Chino's gaze turned icy, his presence exuding a chilling aura.

His company had just started, and recruitment hadn't even begun. If war broke out, global resources would be strained, and his Paradise Project would be jeopardized.

Jean's energy suddenly weakened.

She understood the power Chino possessed. If the demon army sided with humans, mutants would be doomed.

"Then what do we do? Are mutants meant to die out?"

Jean couldn't hold back her tears. Moments ago, she had been a strong and determined woman, but now she was a pitiful figure, her tears falling like pearls from a broken string.

Chino rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.

[Why can't you stand seeing a beauty cry? Comfort her, and tonight, you'll have another addition to your harem.]

Venom's voice echoed in his mind.

[I already have all of you, that's enough.] Chino replied internally, sighing helplessly.

"There is another way."

Jean looked at Chino through her teary eyes, hoping for a perfect solution.

"Mutants are oppressed because there is no king who can stand against all nations and keep mutants in check."

"Charles, you are too soft-hearted. Magneto only cares about war. There were two qualified candidates before, but you got rid of them."

Charles knew he was referring to Black King and Apocalypse. However, if they had succeeded, the world would have plunged into endless war.

"Their methods were wrong and would have led to disaster."

"But you cannot deny that they could have provided mutants with a safe haven."
