Chapter 76 - Two Groups Observing in the Shadows

"Don't worry. While Oscorp isn't quite as rich as I am, they can easily cover the repair costs. Plus, the guy's probably got insurance, so he won't have to pay it all out of pocket."

"Alright, I'm off. As for the cleanup, don't worry about it — let that Nick Fury guy handle it."

After hearing Spider-Man's words, Tony walked over, patted Spider-Man on the shoulder, and then flew away.

"Then I'm leaving too. Damn, I forgot to make Nick Fury treat us to a meal."

Feeling hungry, Tohka quickly left to grab a late-night snack, while also silently mourning for most of New York and America's insurance companies.

After all, this is New York, the financial center of the United States, where almost all major insurance companies have investments.

By the time the Battle of New York ended, Tohka could already imagine the wails of those poor insurance companies.

This wasn't just another small skirmish like before — they had basically torn the whole city apart.

"Uh... everyone's gone."

Spider-Man, shivering in the cold wind, had wanted to crack a few more jokes but realized that everyone was already gone.

Only he remained, standing in the chilly wind, along with a pile of green-scaled lizards nearby.

Feeling bored, Spider-Man swung away on his webs.

Soon after, the entire building and surrounding streets were sealed off by a group of people—it was clear that S.H.I.E.L.D.'s specialized clean-up squad had arrived.

Elsewhere, inside another building, Kingpin watched the battle and slammed the table hard.

"This is what your men did? Causing such a huge mess?"

At this moment, he was extremely furious, mainly because these guys had escalated the situation so drastically.

Not only did they attract Tohka and Tony from Stark Industries, but they also alerted S.H.I.E.L.D. Even worse, that lunatic even tried to turn all of New York into that mess.

Even Kingpin himself would've been affected — how could he not be pissed?

"I-I-I-I didn't expect this either! I just gave them some funding."

I don't know what that giant lizard did, but somehow he turned all my men into those creatures and made them serve him."

Honestly, this guy was pretty unlucky. When he returned to base and saw what had happened, he was so terrified that he turned and ran.

The others were busy planning tonight's events, so they didn't pay attention to him.

"Hmph, what use are you?"

But Kingpin didn't want to hear any more. He pulled a gun from his drawer and shot the guy dead.

"Someone, clean this up. This time, we need to provide an explanation."

"Send this guy to the police and S.H.I.E.L.D., and make sure we distance ourselves from this mess as much as possible."

"Hmph. Tell those people to lay low for a while — put all business on hold."

With a cold snort, Kingpin ignored the body and issued orders to his assistant.

After all, today's events had gotten way out of hand.

Too many people saw it. As a crime boss, there were some things that clearly couldn't be exposed in public.

Besides, it wouldn't take much effort to trace the lizard people's identities...

...and they'd quickly find out those were gang members — that was a major problem.

"Understood. Then what about Spider-Man?"

After taking down Kingpin's orders, the assistant hadn't forgotten their main goal this time was eliminating Spider-Man.

"Hmph, let him bounce around for a few more days."

"As for Daredevil... investigate as best you can. I've already sent someone to deal with him."

Can't help it — Spider-Man's gotten pretty famous recently.

And he's always out in the open.

Taking him out would make a huge scene — not something Kingpin wanted.

Daredevil was easier. The media didn't like him...

He barely even got coverage, so most people didn't even know he existed.

Though he was hard to find, taking him down didn't require the same caution as with Spider-Man.

"Yes, sir."

It wasn't just this side—on the other side, people were also discussing this incident.

Inside the Osborn residence, Norman Osborn was watching the screen in front of him.

Clearly, he had been monitoring the entire battle from start to finish.

"So, among those who fought today, how many meet your standards?"

"That big lizard, though… he really caused a huge commotion. I almost had to step in myself."

He sneered at the footage — honestly, even he had been a bit shaken by the Lizard's insanity.

As for how that guy got his hands on those serums so easily, it had a lot to do with Osborn secretly letting it happen.

He'd thought the guy just wanted to make a few allies, but the lunatic nearly brought New York to ruin.

If those few people had been even a little slower just now, he would have detonated the upper floors of Osborn Tower.

That way, at least Dr. Lizard's serum wouldn't have spread throughout New York. As for the lives of others, he couldn't care less.

"For now, Spider-Man is still the best candidate. His abilities are most suitable for our serum research. With his blood, I believe I can develop the serum you want."

At that moment, another figure appeared on the screen in front of him.

The guy wore a black cloak and sunglasses — but that wasn't the surprising part.

What was shocking were the four giant mechanical tentacles behind him.

Even at a glance, one could see how powerful they were.

"I understand, Dr. Otto. Once it's done, I will fulfill our agreement and provide you with the materials you need to complete your dream experiment."

"I just didn't expect — thought you were a physicist, but you're this skilled in biology too."

"I'll find a way to get that guy's blood."

"That big lizard wasn't completely useless, though. At least he revealed which school Spider-Man goes to. But this is a bit troublesome..."

Looking at the document in front of him, he felt a headache coming on. Not to mention, Tohka, even his own child was attending that school.

That made it difficult for him to act rashly, as the chances of Tohka intervening were quite high.

"Hmph, don't forget your promise."

Dr. Otto sneered. He knew that their relationship was purely one of mutual exploitation.

He had no choice. After his failed experiment took his wife, he lost everything.

So, he had to follow Osborn — it was the only way to get the materials needed to continue his work.

Leaving aside what the two groups were scheming, at this moment, Tohka had already returned home.

But upon seeing her empty fridge, she could only sigh.

Then she opened the window again and flew out.

To see if any late-night convenience stores were still open.

After all, going hungry was something Tohka absolutely couldn't tolerate.
