Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 6: THE GRAND DUCHESS'S LETTER

THIRD PERSON POV

Dinner at the palace went on as expected.

Discussion of their marriage and alliance and the Queen's lively attitude towards the union of Diara and Xavier.

The night went on smoothly and they were asked to stay the night by the Queen, which the King did not go against.

Diara was in the room provided by the Queen to her, being attended to by her servants. She was thinking of her 'fate' to come.

A knock was heard by her door that completely snapped her out of her thoughts.

One of her servants opened her door for her and went back to inform her a moment later.

"My lady, a servant from the Grand Duchess's chambers has come. They have come to deliver a letter from the Grand Duchess.", said the servant.

Hearing what her servant had told her, Diara could not help but be confused and surprise at the same time.

"A letter from the Grand Duchess? What could it possibly be about? Was it something she could not say to me at dinner?", questions running Diara's thoughts.

"My Lady?", the servant called as she noticed of Diara's silence.

Diara snapped back to reality.

"Ah very well, hand it to me.", she said.

The servant headed back to the door and came back a few moments later, letter in hand.

Diara took the letter and opened it.

"Dearest Lady Diara,

It is to my knowledge how sudden this letter may come to you as we have just had dinner together earlier. However, there is something I must say to you not as the Grand Duchess, but as the mother of your betrothed, my son.

This letter from me to you is to inform you of how much it brings me joy and satisfaction to have known that you are to be my son's wedded wife, partner in life, and the one who will  be succeeding me as the future Grand Duchess of our beloved homeland. I am certain that our beloved people will not be forsaken under your care soon. The moment I laid my eyes on you I thought to myself, "Ah, it seems I do not have to worry for the future of Eiris. Someone responsible will be with them to guide them".

My dearest Diara, you are certainly fit to be our Grand Duchy's future Grand Duchess. My husband and I have decided to retire soon and have both you and our son take care of the Duchy as soon as you marry. It is to my knowledge how sudden it will be for you to take on your role as soon as you marry, however, I and my husband are not so young anymore. There is no need to worry, I will be assisting you whenever you may need my assistance. Although, I doubt you will be needing my assistance.

Lastly, let me be the first person to say this.

Welcome to the family, my dearest Diara.

Yours Truly,

Your mother-in-law"

Reading the contents of the letter, Diara could not help but be surprise by it.

She could not have expected the Grand Duchess of Eiris known to be a strict and unfavorable woman to write such a heart-warming letter to her.

Diara asked her maids to fetch her paper and quill and wrote a response to the Grand Duchess's letter.

That night, Diara learned something oh-so important in her life, and that is to never judge a book by its cover and to never listen to unnecessary rumors.

Ever since that night, she and her soon to be mother-in-law have been exchanging letters whenever they had the time through their busy schedules.

In secrecy, that is.
