"I didn't believe it, but did she really come up with seventy thousand coins in less than a day?"
"Creep left the residence with Laziel yesterday evening. Could she have come up with the money and gone to help her out? I mean, the two have grown incredibly close in the past few weeks."
"The new maid? It hasn't even been a month since she started working here. Where could she have gotten that kind of money?"
"I don't know about the new maid, but there's speculation among the guards that Laziel helped her out."
"What? No way. Is she sleeping with him?"
The conversation abruptly ground to a halt when Gretchen walked past them, carrying a laundry basket.
A moment later, a blonde maid leaned forward and scoffed irritably.
"What are you all stopping for? We all know Gretchen's only been working here for three years, so it makes sense that we have these questions."
