.
Yeon-woo stared blankly at him, the words not really registering on her brain.
.
"Isn't it a shame to be so sad in the face of this beauty?"
.
.
Yeon-woo continued to cry.
.
.
.
.
Simply said, it's a poetically tacky scene. Something that is a characteristic of dramas from this era. In the context of the 2000s it looks mellow and romantic, but in 10 years, it was just tacky.
.
.
.
But the two leads seem to handle it well. When it was spelled out in the script it seems downright horrible, but when they acted it out it seems passable.
.
.
.
Jang Hye-jin is good at crying scenes, and Park Sang-hyeon is good at monologues.
.
.
.
With both of their strengths in tandem, it almost seemed like an appealing scene, although it was tad too tacky and old-fashioned for my liking.
.
.
.
I think it will be a pretty scene.
.
.
.
With the lights on the sides of their face. The river in the background...
.
.
.
That's beautiful.
.
.
.
Is that how a director thinks?
.
.
.
.
As I listened to the cues and talks about the script, we arrived at my part in the script.
.
.
.
"Hey, Ki-beom-ah. Lemme borrow your homework?"
.
I was seated face to face with 'Kibeom'.
.
.
I wondered if it would have been better side by side, since we're seatmates.
.
.
Ki-beom gave Yeon-gyeong a questionable glance.
.
"I'll change things up, I swear!"
.
Ki-beom let out a sigh and obliged as Yeon-gyeong sent him a lovely grin.
.
.
.
This scene is the main introduction to my character. Prior to this, my character has been showing up here and there, but there is no much elaboration about her yet.
.
.
Yeon-gyeong is described as someone horrible at studying but she had good street smarts.
.
.
In contrast, Ki-beom, her friend and deskmate, is a quiet overachiever.
.
.
In the original script, Yeon-gyeong is more of a bully to Ki-beom.
.
.
.
As for now...
.
.
It seems that Ki-beom's scenes increased compared to back then.
.
.
Hmm....
.
.
.
.
"Are you done?"
.
"Nononono, patience! Beom-ah! Patience!!"
.
.
Playing Yeon-gyeong is a fun and refreshing experience, the way she speaks is clear and playful.
.
.
.
She is like a naughty but endearing kid that lives next door.
.
.
.
I play her thinking of these qualities, the most important thing for Yeon-gyeong is to be adored by the viewers after all.
.
.
.
...
...
...
.
I waited for a while until another of my scene arrived. It was the bullying scene, where Yeon-gyeong witnessed the bullies' actions and bravely went against them.
.
These scenes are going to involve a little bit of action, but it was nothing too serious. It was basically a polished catfight because Yeon-gyeong had no settings of being a martial artist.
.
.
I yelled a lot and glared a lot. It made my voice a bit hoarse.
.
Through these scenes, I seem to sense a slight acknowledgement from my seniors.
.
Scenes like this is a balance of action, comedy and choreography. Although it was still far from the final result, a certain feel is needed to achieve the intended mix.
.
.
.
Such things might be slightly tricky for a new actor to balance.
.
.
.
.
The script reading continued with the actors and staff getting a feel of the characters, as well as improving the script whenever possible.
.
...
...
...
.
Finally, here comes the scene that would be part of the climax.
.
The confrontation between sisters.
.
This start of the mayhem that would soon occur to Yeon-woo.
.
.
.
Jo Yeon-woo was frustrated about her sister, she never listened to her, she keeps skipping classes, and her grades are barely passable.
.
Tonight was the point where everything overflowed.
.
.
.
Yeon-woo discovered that Yeon-gyeong has been neglecting class to practice archery. It made her furious, feeling that her efforts are wasted.
.
.
"Eonnie! I'm home!"
.
.
I gave my voice a tilt that kids these days used to sound cuter.
.
.
"You still remember to go home? I thought you'd be practicing archery until night," Yeon-woo was mad but she isn't the type to explode, instead she will turn cold and stabbing.
.
The atmosphere instantly turned cold.
.
As expected from the Queen of Crime.
.
.
.
Yeon-gyeong's smile disappeared instantly.
.
.
With a challenging glint in her eye, she replied.
.
"So what? Is it wrong?"
.
.
.
.
Yeon-woo was still for a few seconds.
.
.
"The problem here is not your interest in archery, it's your attitude towards education. Who told you it's okay to skip classes and flunk all your exams!"
.
.
Her face is still icy, but her words are loud and fiery.
.
.
.
.
"Everyone knew I was bad at studying from the first time. I knew that too, no matter how much I tried, I can't go anywhere."
.
"Jo Yeon-gyeong, that is still not an excuse! You..! Do you know all the things that I did just for you to be able to go to school!"
.
.
Jang Hye-jin is cooperating as well.
.
.
"So what? Is that what I want?! Did I ever ask for that? You always say that you're doing this for me. Did you even ask for my opinion?!!"
.
I took a deep breath.
.
.
"Anyways, I have a job now, it's enough for me. If I do well in archery, I can be an athlete or something like that. So, eonnie, don't worry about me and live your life.
.
Yeon-gyeong's eyes are heavy and glistening.
