Chapter 60 - The funeral

Nasya'  s POV

"Mommy, where are we going  now?  I wanna sleep." Orion asked sleepily, his small fingers clutching Joanna's hand in one of his and her white Jellycat bunny in the other. His eyelids fluttered heavily, as if weighted down by lead, and his tiny body swayed slightly with fatigue. Both children struggled to keep their eyes open, their small faces flushed with exhaustion, their breaths coming in soft, uneven puffs. I reached out and gently stroked Orion's head, trying to soothe him, but my heart was heavy with the knowledge of what lay ahead.

"To Chicago."

"Chicago? Why?  Where is it, mommy?" Joanna's large, feline-like eyes blinked up at me with innocent curiosity.

The sight tugged at my heartstrings, a sharp pang of guilt and sorrow shooting through me. Theo had only been a year or two older than Joanna—about Orion's age. The memory of him was so vivid, it was as if he was standing right beside us.
