Nasya's POV
"Wynn! Time to go home!" Leif called toward the house. Almost immediately, a young girl's voice echoed in response.
"Coming, Grandpa!"
Wynn came bounding out of the cabin, throwing her arms around me in a quick, affectionate hug. "See you next time, Nasya!"
I forced a stiff smile, patting her head lightly. "See you, Wynn."
My mind was still fixated on the small bag in my hand. Once Leif and Wynn had disappeared into the snowy woods, I stepped back inside—only to find Matilda releasing Orion and baring her teeth at me, her body tense in a defensive stance.
It was the posture of a wolf sensing danger.
"Throw that thing out! Why are you holding wolfsbane?"
I froze, the realization hitting me like a physical blow—this syringe contained wolfsbane.
Which meant... the one I'd given Austin all those years ago...
No wonder there had been so many police cars that night. Had I... killed Austin?
