Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Invitation and Gunpoint

Visor

VisorBy [You]

I found shelter—a half-collapsed building at the edge of the ruins. The place was a wreck: dust-covered floors, rusted beams, rats scurrying through the shadows. But it was a roof, and that was enough.

I cleared a spot in the corner and let sleep take me.

When I woke up, the world felt a little heavier. I rummaged through my bag, pulled out my gadget, and started scanning the city for something, But as always I found nothing.

Frustrated, I slammed the device shut. Then my stomach growled, loud and unapologetic. I grabbed my bag and went out to get some food.

When I returned, my gadget was making a strange beeping noise. I dropped everything and ran toward it, heart pounding—finally, a hit. But when I checked the screen, nothing. Just a glitch. I cursed under my breath.

Days passed like that. Same routine. Scan. Eat. Sleep.

I don't want to be catch by the police obviously.

Then one day, everything changed.

I heard footsteps. Soft, careful, but definitely human. I hid, watching. A girl entered the building—young, calm, and clearly not from around here. I moved behind her, silent like a shadow, and pressed the cold barrel of my pistol to her back.

"If you move, you die. If you scream, you die. Cooperate, and you live," I said flatly.

To my surprise, she didn't scream. Didn't even flinch. She just nodded and let me tie her to a pole with a worn-out rope I found nearby. It was the first time someone actually listened to me without trying to fight back, its like she isn't even a human.

That's when I noticed something strange—her eyes. They were glowing. A deep, unnatural green.

I stepped closer to get a better look.

Bad idea.

In one smooth, terrifying motion, she broke free from the rope and lunged. Her hands wrapped around my neck, fast as lightning, strength unnatural.

"Join my team," she said, her voice calm but commanding.

"What?" I managed to choke out, blinking in confusion. She was serious. I could tell.

I almost laughed in her face.

"Who are you to give me orders?" I spat.

She didn't answer. Instead, she raised her hand—and it lit up in flames. Not red. Green. The heat was intense, more than anything I'd ever felt. She brought it close to my face, just inches away.

"Do you want to try me?" she said.

Then—boom—she slammed her fist into the ground beside me. A crater formed instantly. I dodged it, just a few centimeters from having my face smashed in. I looked up at her, grinned, and nodded.

"Okay. I'll join."

She paused, staring at me with those strange eyes. Then she simply said, "Thank you." No smile. No warmth. Just a small card in her hand.

"Meet me here. 10 p.m." She tossed it to me, turned, and walked out of the building without another word. No goodbye, Not even introducing herself. Nothing.

Rude.

I looked down at the card. Coordinates. A time. A place.

I dropped it to the floor, not because I didn't care—but because I knew I'd remember.

The journey ahead wasn't going to be easy.

But something told me… this is what I'd been waiting for.
