Chapter 135 - Compromising - Chapter 9

"Something on your mind?" Dante asked, huddling closer to the flame as well, Iris continued towards the embers as her hands slightly covered her sight of the flames. She began to speak in a softer tone as her eyes lowered.

"It's just…a bit nostalgic."

"What? Being stuck in a cavern?"

"No, this feeling."

"What makes you say that?"

Iris sighed as she looked up, as if she could see something that Dante couldn't make out. She began to giggle to herself as she looked towards him once more with a smile.

"I guess, I could tell you a bit about myself…since you're clueless when it comes to nobility."

"Hey! I know…like two nobles! That's pretty good right?"

"Even a child knows of the noble families here, I'd hope so."

"Oh…"

Her smile slowly dropped as she went on to tell him about certain aspects of nobility and why things were the way they are. Astonished about the information given, Dante began to become more curious about Iris and her own family.

"So…if you don't mind me asking, what's the deal with your brother? He seems to be a real stick in the mud."

"Oh…Rowan."

"That's his name?

"Yeah…he's my older brother."

"Huh, no wonder…he must like picking on his sister."

"W-what makes you say that?"

Dante put his hand to his chin as he closed his eyes. Thinking back on the previous interaction with him and how she reacted to his presence.

"You two don't seem very 'sibling-like' to me."

"Well…he just has more of a social standing is all."

"That doesn't mean he can treat you anyway he wants."

"..."

She began to hold her hands at the notion of his words, seemingly responding physically to it. The marks on her hands shone bright within the light of the fire as Dante inspected them some more.

"Does he…have something to do with those?"

"Wha–"

"With your scars…?"

Iris was startled at the sudden question, though as she began to settle, she felt it was only right to tell him the truth after everything. Especially since they were 'friends' after all. Though with previous events, it felt it was redundant to not speak about the elephant in the room. She let out a soft sigh before looking at Dante sternly.

"Indulge me for a moment."
