Chapter 32 - Chapter 32

I stared at the diva looking lady at the door whose face had a cruel smirk plastered on it.

With just a sweep of her eyes, she sent Sophia scampering out of the room. I felt anger rise in me towards her.

"You..." I mumbled, packing up the untouched cookies. So much for bonding time with Sophia. I had even hoped to get a bit more information about Luca from her.

Her smirk grew even wider. "Yes, it's me."

I rolled my eyes. "And what do you want this time, Rosa?!" I snapped. Ignoring her, I walked over to my vanity stand. I didn't have anything to do there, but I just wanted to ignore my physical nemesis in the room.

"I thought you and my baby were staying in the same room," she smirked, strutting over to the bed.

Annoyance swirled in me as I watched her through the mirror while brushing my hair.

"Well, your baby is my husband," I bit back, just to spite her. She wasn't the only one who could be petty. She was yet to meet Pettiana—me.

I saw her face redden, and a smirk settled on my cheeks.

She swallowed, her head still lifted in pride as she glared at me. She probably wished her eyes were daggers. "Oh darling, we all know why you got married to my cousin, so don't try to pretend that he actually gives a damn about you. We both know that you're just a wife by name, aren't you?"

I paused but refused to meet her eyes in the mirror. I bunched my hair in a loose bun and began to apply some skincare products to my face. I had already applied them earlier today.

Ignoring her completely, I got engrossed in the therapeutic routine, humming slightly. She wasn't going to get a reaction out of me if that was why she came.

But I froze suddenly when I felt a cold metal press against my neck. In the mirror, Rosa's reflection stood directly behind me as she held a knife to my neck.

"I could split your throat right now, and guess what would happen?" She whispered into my ears.

Outwardly, I appeared as calm as ever, but inwardly, cold shivers ran down my spine. In one swift move, she would render me lifeless. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

'Remember, Rose. You've been taught this also during your agency training,' I peptalked myself.

She knew what she was doing. She was trying to make me frustrated and depressed. Of course, if she slit my throat, nothing would happen because Luca wouldn't even care.

He'd probably believe whatever story she cooked up for him and then get married to her. That wouldn't happen on my watch. I had vowed to myself that I would not be killed.

"Answer me before I slit your pretty throat!" She snarled, her eyes turning red. Had she come here to kill me?

I sighed. "Fine. Nothing would happen," I drawled to intentionally annoy her. When her wrist flicked slightly, I seized my chance, shoving my chair backwards so harshly that she stumbled slightly.

I jumped to my feet, holding the hand mirror in my front as my defence. Of course, it was basically useless.

But she recovered fast and lunged towards me, brandishing her knife. "You slut! I should have distorted your ugly face when I had the chance," she snarled.

Cornering me between the table and herself, she plunged the knife down with force but just blocked it with the mirror, sending it shattering into a million pieces.

She really meant business. Anger built in my stomach like larva. As she made to strike again, I caught her grip and held the knife with her. She was surprisingly very strong.

Lifting my knee, I rammed it between her legs, crippling her in pain. With that, I was able to wriggle the knife from her grip and point it back at her.

She looked like a mad woman as she breathed heavily, glaring at me. "You think you've won, right?! Luca doesn't love you, and he never will. He loves me, and he will be with me. Tell me, since you've been together, has he ever touched you? Has he? Do you even really stay in his room, or was it just a very stupid facade?! Are you really so dumb to think you can be here forever?" She screeched like a banshee.

Her words hurt, but I shoved them away. I was long done with the sentiments. "At least I'm still alive, Rosa. About Luca, it's just a matter of time," I vowed, staring dead into her eyes. She looked like she was about to cry. "And lest I forget, did I mention that Luca left this house from my bed? I would have loved to tell you how it went, but I wouldn't want to make you any more insecure than you already are!"

If looks could kill, I'd be dead now. Her eyes were red. "This is only the beginning. You'll soon be gone, just like her."

I let out a humourless laugh, glaring at her. "You can't kill me, Rosa. Don't you get it?" I smirked, annoying her even more. "Your poison trick didn't work. Do you think that this little stunt you just pulled would work, either?"

A sickening smirk crawled across her cheeks as she suddenly moved away from me. "Poison?" She chuckled. "That's interesting. I guess we're many who want you dead. It's only a matter of time before you're gone. Either way, I'll get what I want." She stated, picking her bag.

I rolled my eyes. "Don't bother lying. You're the one who tried to poison me. The maid who you sent to poison me has been captured, and she has confessed to being sent by you."

The look on Rosa's face almost had me fooled. "You must think so highly of yourself to think that you're the only one I think about all the time. I never sent a maid. Do you think sending a maid beats the feeling of watching you while you die?!"

What did she mean by that? If it wasn't her who tried to kill me, then who was it? My heart sank into my stomach.

I stood frozen in place with her knife as she strutted towards me. She snatched the knife from me, a knowing look in her eyes.

"And oh, I know you're hiding some

thing, Marta. Trust me, I'm on the verge of digging it out myself."
