A Place of Rest and Gratitude
After leaving Cape Town, Ye Ming followed the guidance of the crow and arrived at the nearest Wisteria House.
The Wisteria Houses were established by people who had been helped by the Demon Slayer Corps. Out of gratitude, they marked their homes with wisteria patterns, offering shelter and assistance to Demon Slayers free of charge.
Ye Ming stepped through the entrance, taking in the serene beauty of the courtyard. Wisteria flowers draped elegantly from wooden trellises, their fragrance blending with the crisp evening air. The peaceful atmosphere stood in stark contrast to the battles he had endured.
A kind-looking woman approached him with a warm smile, her eyes filled with gratitude and respect.
"Welcome, swordsman of the Demon Slayer Corps. Please, come in. You must be exhausted from your journey," she greeted enthusiastically.
Ye Ming gave a small nod and followed her inside. The house was simple yet cozy, its wooden furniture exuding a faint, calming fragrance. On the table, hot tea and a selection of delicate snacks awaited him.
"This is our own tea. Please, have some," the woman offered, pouring him a cup. "You Demon Slayers sacrifice so much to protect us—this is the least we can do."
Ye Ming picked up the teacup and took a sip. The warmth seeped through him, easing his fatigue.
"Are you here for a mission?" the woman inquired gently, sitting across from him.
Ye Ming nodded. "Yes, but the mission is over. The demon has been slain."
An Unexpected Guest
Just as they spoke, a voice came from the entrance.
"Excuse me!"
A cheerful figure stepped inside, slightly flustered yet radiating warmth. She had long pink hair with soft green tips and a sweet, welcoming smile.
The woman's eyes widened in surprise upon recognizing the visitor's uniform. "Oh my, another Demon Slayer! Please, come in."
Kanroji Mitsuri, the Love Hashira, waved her hands with an embarrassed chuckle. "I was just passing by and saw the wisteria mark. I thought I'd stay the night."
Ye Ming observed her carefully. Her vibrant hair, her lively demeanor—it could only be Kanroji Mitsuri. He had heard that her muscle density was eight times that of an average person. In pure strength, only the Rock Pillar could possibly surpass her.
The woman quickly poured a cup of tea for Mitsuri. "Miss, you must be tired as well. Please, warm yourself up."
Mitsuri took a sip, her eyes lighting up. "This tea is delicious!" She glanced around, admiring the cozy interior. "It's so comfortable here."
The woman beamed. "You Demon Slayers do so much for us. This is the least we can do. Please, rest well tonight."
Mitsuri sighed happily. "Thank you! It's such a blessing to have a warm place to stay."
After exchanging pleasantries, Mitsuri turned her gaze toward Ye Ming.
And then… she froze.
A faint blush dusted her cheeks as she looked at him. His features were striking, especially his eyes—they seemed to hold a depth she couldn't quite place.
After a moment of hesitation, she mustered her courage. "Um… hello! I'm Kanroji Mitsuri, a swordsman of the Demon Slayer Corps."
Her voice was slightly unsteady, betraying her nervousness.
Ye Ming found her reaction amusing. He recalled how, in the original story, Mitsuri had joined the Demon Slayer Corps to find a strong husband—one who wouldn't ridicule her strength.
He replied with a polite nod. "Hello, I'm Ye Ming. I'm also a swordsman of the Demon Slayer Corps."
Mitsuri's blush deepened, and she bit her lip, struggling to find the right words.
"You… uh… were you here for a mission too?" she finally asked.
Ye Ming nodded. "Yes, I just completed my mission and decided to rest here for the night."
Sensing her nervousness, he chuckled lightly. "You don't have to be so tense. I promise, I don't bite."
Mitsuri relaxed slightly and changed the topic. "Your hair color is beautiful! Did you dye it on purpose?"
Her words tumbled out before she realized it, and she quickly grew flustered. "Ah, no—I mean, sorry! I didn't mean to be rude!"
Ye Ming smiled. "No need to apologize. Actually, I was going to say the same to you. Your hair color is stunning—pink with hints of green, just like a flower in bloom."
Mitsuri's eyes sparkled. "You really think so?"
"Of course. It's unique and suits you perfectly," he said with genuine admiration.
Mitsuri's heart swelled with joy. "Hehe, I like my hair too, but sometimes people say it looks strange…"
"They just don't know how to appreciate beauty," Ye Ming replied firmly. "Your hair is one of a kind, and that's what makes it special."
Mitsuri's heart felt as light as air. No one had ever praised her hair like this before.
"You're really good at talking," she said, her smile growing brighter.
The woman soon brought out an array of exquisite dishes, including sweet cakes and fresh fruit. "Please, have some food. It's not much, but I hope it satisfies you."
Mitsuri's eyes sparkled at the sight of the delicious spread, but she hesitated. She didn't want Ye Ming to see how much she could eat. Carefully, she picked up a small piece of cake and nibbled at it slowly.
Ye Ming, however, saw through her hesitation. He knew all too well about her impressive appetite. With a smirk, he said, "Don't hold back. After a long mission, eating properly helps you recover."
Mitsuri hesitated, but Ye Ming continued, "It's normal for Demon Slayers to have a big appetite. There's nothing to be embarrassed about."
Touched by his words, Mitsuri finally let go of her restraint. She dug in happily, savoring every bite.
As the meal progressed, Ye Ming watched with amusement. Despite her adorable shyness, she devoured the food with impressive speed.
Before long, the plates were empty.
Ye Ming had a large appetite himself—using his Six Eyes consumed a lot of energy—but Mitsuri had eaten more than three times what he had.
Realizing what she had just done, Mitsuri froze. She turned to see Ye Ming and the woman staring at her, wide-eyed.
Flustered, she tried to come up with an excuse. "I… um… I didn't mean to eat so much—"
Ye Ming interrupted with a grin. "Mitsuri, you look really cute when you eat."
Mitsuri's face turned scarlet. Her emerald eyes widened in surprise.
"R-Really?" she stammered, her voice trembling with both embarrassment and excitement.
Ye Ming nodded, his expression sincere. "Really."
Mitsuri's heart raced, a giddy warmth spreading through her chest.
For the first time in a long while, she felt truly understood.
