“Dohwi, did you sleep well? Why aren’t you heading out today?”
The sight of his radiant face lifted her spirits.
Her voice, hoarse from all the moaning, struggled to sound cheerful as she chattered.
“Did you stay in because you wanted to spend time with me? Hmm? Dohwi?”
Dohwi smiled faintly, his gentle demeanor hiding the bitterness simmering underneath.
It irked him to see her act like this, especially after she had been the one to declare using separate rooms.
“You must have enjoyed the peace while this pesky man wasn’t around to bother you.”
“Oh my, are you still upset?”
“How could I be?”
Feigning indifference, Dohwi lowered his gaze as he served a generous helping of steaming white rice into a warm brass bowl.
Starting with the ginseng short ribs she liked, he carefully shredded them into small pieces and fed them to her like a mother bird.
“Mmm, sweet. So sweet.”
Next came a spoonful of rice, followed by thin slices of abalone.
