Chapter 222 - Chapter 221: Breaking the City

Bert didn't speak or take any action, and everyone assumed he silently agreed with Remedios' statement.

However, what intrigued everyone more was how Bert had managed to make Remedios so obedient, without the slightest hint of resistance.

After all, their strengths were on completely different levels.

In the military camp, strength was everything—only those with power could command others.

They weren't nobles; they had to rely on raw strength to prove themselves.

Remedios happened to be exceptionally strong, and no one questioned her authority as the commander.

Everyone was well aware of her strength.

Although there were many individuals stronger than her, and even non-human beings more powerful, in this place, at this moment, she was the strongest.

The poor guy earlier had already tested her strength for them, and everyone else had unanimously chosen to support her.

One of the dissenters still wanted to say something, but before he could finish, Remedios grabbed him by the collar.

"I don't want to hear what you have to say! If anyone wants to listen to him, go outside with him!"

With that, Remedios tossed the man out of the meeting tent and ordered the guards not to let him back in.

When Remedios was first appointed as the commander, many troublemakers were dissatisfied, primarily because she was a woman.

Although her name was well-known, seeing was believing, and objections still arose.

Remedios had simply told all the dissenters to come at her together.

The result? Every single one of them ended up severely injured.

Thankfully, there were healing potions; otherwise, those men wouldn't have been able to return to the battlefield.

In the end, all of them were thoroughly convinced of her strength.

Most of these people had opposed her because they wanted to be the commander themselves, and they were indeed capable individuals.

But in front of Remedios, they were simply no match.

The rank-and-file soldiers almost all recognized Remedios by now.

After all, her name carried weight, and her strength was undeniable.

To the soldiers, her orders were as sacred as imperial edicts.

The man who had been thrown out still wanted to get back in, but he was firmly pinned down by four soldiers.

He had no chance to resist.

Inside the tent, the person who had proposed the plan finished outlining it in full detail, explaining step by step from start to finish.

The others listened carefully and expressed their agreement with the plan.

In warfare, the best strategy was to win hearts and minds; brute force came second.

The next day, Remedios' army was fully assembled and ready to attack.

On the city walls, the militia clutched their crude weapons, dressed in thin clothing, trembling as they looked down at the densely packed army below.

After Neia became the new Holy Queen, the army was renamed the Holy Army.

Their banners were redesigned, now featuring the symbol of a pair of angel wings—fitting imagery for an army bearing the name "Holy."

Before the battle even began, a burly man was placed at the forefront of the army.

"Her Majesty, the Holy Queen, is merciful and kind! We've heard that the citizens in the city haven't had a proper meal in a long time. So, Her Majesty has decided to treat you all to a hearty feast!"

Several catapults were rolled forward.

But instead of stones, the catapults were loaded with freshly steamed buns, piled high and packed tightly.

"Give thanks to Her Majesty, the Holy Queen!" the burly man bellowed.

His voice was loud enough to be heard by everyone on the city walls.

Moments later, an overwhelming barrage of soft, steaming buns rained down on the militia.

These buns had been freshly steamed that morning and were so soft that they caused no harm when they hit people.

When the militia saw the buns, they immediately began scrambling to grab them, stuffing them into their mouths as quickly as they could.

Hunger overpowered any sense of discipline, and chaos erupted on the city walls as the militia fought over the unexpected bounty.

The supervising squad, consisting of only a hundred men, was utterly incapable of controlling the massive number of militia.

At this moment, the Holy Army launched their attack.

Remedios drew her sword, wiped it clean, and charged toward the city wall on horseback.

Her strength had long surpassed ordinary soldiers, reaching the realm of heroes.

Faced with the not-so-tall city wall, she stood on the back of her galloping horse and leaped toward the wall.

A sharp dagger flew from her hand, embedding itself firmly into the wall.

With one foot planted steadily on the dagger, she propelled herself upward, effortlessly landing atop the city wall.

"Drop your weapons and surrender, and you will not be killed!" Remedios shouted.

She immediately set her sights on a member of the supervising squad and killed him in an instant.

The supervising squad was easy to identify—they wore finely crafted armor and carried weapons with scabbards.

Yet, in Remedios' hands, these heavily equipped soldiers were no more resilient than tofu, falling instantly before her attacks.

The supervising squad continued to kill militia members, trying to force them back into line, but these starving people, teetering on the edge of death every day, refused to stop.

Meanwhile, ladders were being propped up one after another against the city walls, and the Holy Army soldiers began pouring onto the battlements.

"Surrender, and you will not be killed!" shouted the heavily armed vanguard soldiers of the Holy Army as they climbed over the walls.

Their intimidating presence alone was enough to break the fragile will of the militia, who immediately dropped their weapons and muttered incoherent pleas for surrender.

The captain of the supervising squad tried to escape to report to the nobles, but he ran into Remedios.

"I'll fight you to the death!" he roared as he charged at her.

Remedios met him head-on, her sword clashing with his.

In one swift motion, she cut through his blade—and his head, cleanly severing both.

Seeing their captain fall, the remaining members of the supervising squad threw down their weapons in surrender.

But Remedios didn't give them a chance to yield.

Among the starving and poorly clothed civilians, these soldiers stood out in their gleaming, well-maintained armor and weapons.

There was no way they hadn't oppressed the civilians—they reeked of cruelty and injustice.

Remedios was a person with an overwhelming sense of justice, sometimes to the point of extremism.

Anyone she perceived as evil was utterly detestable in her eyes, and in her judgment, the supervising squad were nothing but villains.

Without hesitation, she cut them down one by one.

She showed no mercy whatsoever.

"Brothers! They're breaking their word! Our people have already thrown down their weapons, yet they're still killing us!" shouted one of the supervising squad members, trying to incite the civilians into rebellion.

But these civilians had endured oppression under them for so long that patience and submission had become second nature.

How could a single sentence stir them into resistance now? Those who couldn't endure had long been killed—completely wiped out.

The ones remaining were cowards, people who valued their lives above all else.

Before the man could say another word, he was cut down.

Remedios had no pity for them, and her methods were brutally efficient.

The rest of the supervising squad started fleeing, but the city gates had been thrown open, and the Holy Army's cavalry poured in.

How could two human legs outrun four hooves? Especially with Remedios, the god of slaughter, chasing them down.

Remedios specifically targeted groups of people huddled together.

Some, realizing they couldn't run any further, knelt down and began groveling, spouting flattery and begging for mercy.

But Remedios ignored every word, cutting them down without hesitation.

The Holy Army soldiers secured the city walls and began taking control of the other gates.

Remedios and her troops advanced methodically through the city, moving from the eastern gate toward the western gate.

Once they secured the western gate, the city would be fully conquered.

Along the way, they encountered scattered groups of enemies, but Remedios cut them down as easily as slicing vegetables.

The soldiers following behind her hardly had any chance to lift their weapons.

Under her relentless assault, the western gate soon fell.

In one of the noble's mansions near the gate, Count Henry was still in bed, fast asleep.

Two lightly dressed women lay beside him, the remnants of the previous night's indulgence making the situation clear.

"Count Henry, bad news! The city walls have fallen, and the enemy has breached the city!"

"Nonsense! How can fifty thousand men fail to hold a city for even one day?!" Count Henry roared, kicking the soldier in the chest.

He refused to believe such news.

In Henry's eyes, war was a simple numbers game—whoever had the most soldiers would naturally win.

A typical useless noble, he was good for nothing besides eating, drinking, and sleeping.

The soldier, clutching his chest in disbelief, stared at the noble he had served loyally for so many years.

Everyone else had already fled, yet he had stayed behind out of loyalty to warn his lord.

And yet, his lord not only didn't believe him but had also kicked him.

Seeing the soldier standing still, Count Henry kicked him again.

However, due to Henry's large belly and heavy body, this time he used his full strength.

The soldier remained unmoved, but Henry lost his balance and fell heavily to the ground.

As everyone knows, force is mutual—Henry's kick rebounded off the soldier's sturdy, well-trained body, sending Henry sprawling.

"You idiot! Hurry up and help me up!" Henry roared at the soldier.

In response, the soldier kicked Henry squarely in the face, leaving a clear shoe print on his pudgy cheek.

Without hesitation, the soldier grabbed one of Henry's concubines and dragged her away.

This soldier had long been infatuated with the woman, but as she belonged to his lord, he had kept his feelings suppressed.

Today, however, was different—today was the day Henry would die, and the soldier saw no reason to hold back.

The concubine offered no resistance; compared to Henry, who looked like a bloated pig, the soldier was far more appealing.

The other concubine watched with envy as her counterpart was led away.

After a moment's thought, the soldier returned, grabbed the second woman, and took her along as well.

After all, taking one or two made little difference.

The soldier brought the two women to a safe house where he had prepared civilian clothing in advance.

The house was well-stocked with food, and the basement was filled with gold and silver treasures he had hidden over the years.

Originally a commoner, the soldier had joined Count Henry's retinue by chance.

Unlike the others, he had never oppressed civilians.

At one point, he had wanted to change things, but he quickly realized that a single lowly soldier had no power to change anything.

Eventually, he gave up and chose to go with the flow, surviving day by day.

After locking the door tightly, the soldier wasted no time.

He knew opportunities like this were fleeting.

The two women obeyed without resistance—they had long since given up on having their own will.

They had spent their entire lives following orders: obeying their fathers as children, and later being handed over to nobles like livestock.

They may have had fleeting thoughts of rebellion or freedom, but they had never acted on them.

Obedience was all they knew.

Meanwhile, the Holy Army had fully occupied the city, killing anyone who dared resist and distributing food to the starving citizens of the Holy Kingdom.

As for Count Henry, he was dragged to the central execution square, where he was publicly burned alive under the watchful eyes of the townspeople.

On Neia's front, the nobles, aware of Neia's formidable army, united their forces to form an allied coalition against her.

However, Neia marched her troops straight into their stronghold.

Amid thousands of soldiers, she personally beheaded the noble commanders.

No one could stop her.

Neia was a hexagonal warrior—perfectly balanced and powerful in every aspect, with every skill honed to the heroic level.

Her weapon was also enchanted with powerful magic.

No matter how many soldiers the nobles sent against her, they were nothing more than a fleeting breeze against her unstoppable might.

Additionally, thanks to the Staff of the Administrator's, Neia's stamina seemed inexhaustible.

She fought tirelessly, showing no signs of fatigue.

Such an unyielding, overwhelming display of power struck terror into the hearts of her enemies.

"Long live the Holy Queen!"

The Holy Army shouted in unison.

Their voices were perfectly synchronized, resonating across the battlefield.

In contrast, the noble coalition forces had been utterly broken by Neia alone. She had single-handedly torn through their ranks.

"Long live the Holy Queen! Long live Lady Neia!"

Seeing the perfect moment to strike, the commanders of the Holy Army ordered a full-scale assault.

Their disciplined formations advanced like an unstoppable tide, crushing the noble coalition forces.

Most of the noble troops had barely set foot on a battlefield before.

Many were hastily conscripted peasants with little to no training.

Their morale was incredibly fragile, and faced with such a one-sided slaughter, they began fleeing in droves to avoid becoming the next corpse on the ground.

Even the veteran soldiers, who had some battlefield experience, lost their will to fight.

They were facing an opponent who was like a god—invincible, unstoppable, and impervious to harm.

Fear gripped their hearts, and their courage crumbled.

Meanwhile, the Holy Army—rested, disciplined, and brimming with morale—pressed forward relentlessly.

"Those who surrender will not be killed!"

As the Holy Army approached the enemy lines, their thunderous battle cry echoed across the battlefield.

This declaration shattered the final remnants of the noble soldiers' resolve.

"I surrender! I surrender!"

One by one, the noble soldiers dropped their weapons and raised their hands in surrender.

The noble commanders themselves suffered devastating losses at Neia's hands.

Those who weren't killed eventually surrendered as well.

Meanwhile, Remedios swiftly wrapped up her campaign.

In just one week, she completely crushed the remaining noble resistance and executed any aristocrats who dared to defy her.

Soon, the Holy Kingdom was fully unified under Neia and her forces.

After unification, the Holy Kingdom officially declared itself a vassal state of the Sorcerer Kingdom.

Under the oversight of Princess Renner from the Sorcerer Kingdom, the Holy Kingdom adopted a new governmental system and a revised set of laws.

The first law: The Sorcerer King is always right.

The second law: If you think the Sorcerer King is wrong, then the one who is wrong is you!

The third law: You must not refuse any request from the Sorcerer King.

With these laws established, the Holy Kingdom began a new chapter under the rule of the Sorcerer Kingdom.

........

The laws were essentially all tyrannical decrees, and many people disagreed with them.

Those who opposed were immediately exiled, cast out from the Holy Kingdom.

Additionally, the Holy Kingdom introduced an identification card system as a pilot program.

This idea came about when Renner casually discussed it with Peroroncino during one of their private conversations in bed.

Intrigued by the concept, Renner decided to experiment with it in the Holy Kingdom.

By this point, nearly all of the nations surrounding the Sorcerer Kingdom had become its vassal states.

The Re-Estize Kingdom, the Holy Kingdom, and the Baharuth Empire—three massive nations—were now effectively under the control of the relatively small Sorcerer Kingdom.

Notably, the Empire also included the absorbed Slane Theocracy after its collapse.

Remarkably, the Sorcerer Kingdom had achieved all of this without deploying its official military forces. (Goblin troops are considered Enri's personal militia and not part of the official Sorcerer Kingdom army.)

At this moment, the Sorcerer Kingdom was actively preparing its forces for an invasion of the Council State, aiming to extend its dominion even further.
