The sailboat rocked gently as Ash took control of the helm, adjusting their course. Selina and Uta moved swiftly, helping to unfurl the sails. The wind caught hold, propelling them forward as the boat began gliding across the open sea.

Ash turned his gaze ahead, following the directions he had gathered through subtle inquiries with Selina. The salty breeze brushed against his face as he steered with confidence.

Seated at the front of the boat, Lucy stretched her arms and casually asked, "Are you sure you know the way? You do realize Nami's not here, right?"

Ash chuckled, keeping his hands steady on the wheel. "Don't worry, I know enough navigation to get us to Driftreef Isle in a few hours."

Leaning against the railing, Ace smirked, her fingers lightly drumming against the wood. "I can't wait for an actual fight, finally."

Uta, sitting nearby, let out a small laugh. "Ace, you're turning into quite the battle junkie."

Ace just grinned in response; the anticipation evident in her eyes as the crew sailed toward their next challenge.

Arrival at Driftreef Isle

After a couple of hours at sea, a small island came into view on the horizon.

Lucy, sitting at the front, immediately pointed ahead. "Ash! There's an island up ahead!"

Uta, Ace, and Selina leaned forward, their eyes narrowing as they took in the sight. Ash adjusted the wheel slightly, his gaze locking onto the shore, where a small group of pirates stood, waving their cutlasses threateningly. Their gestures made it clear—if anyone dared to step onto the island, something bad would happen.

Before Ash or the girls could react, a sharp gunshot rang through the air. The bullet was aimed directly at Ace. But with a slight tilt of her head, she avoided it with ease—her Observation Haki alerting her just in time. Her eyes darkened with anger.

"Tch…" Ace clicked her tongue in irritation. Without hesitation, she pulled out her Blaze Repeater, taking aim in a single swift motion. As she fired, the bullet split into five, each curving mid-air—a new upgrade she had gained after using a special ticket from Ash. The bullets struck their targets with precision, incapacitating all five pirates at the shore, including the sniper who had dared to shoot at her.

With the immediate threats taken care of, Ash and the girls safely steered their boat toward the shore and disembarked.

As they stepped onto the sand, one of the fallen pirates groaned, the one who shot at Ace, still consciousness. But the moment he saw them, he tried to crawl away, Ash moved in an instant, grabbing him by the neck and lifting him off the ground effortlessly.

The pirate's breath hitched as a chilling pressure filled the air—Ash's bloodlust. Even with his mask covering his face, the sheer intensity of his glare sent shivers down the man's spine.

With a slow, serious voice, Ash spoke. "You dare raise your gun at us… at my family… my crew?"

The pirate's body trembled violently. His eyes darted around in terror. "S-Sorry! I… I didn't know! Please don't kill me! I swear, I'll leave piracy! Just let me go!"

Ace, standing behind Ash, felt an unfamiliar warmth creep up her face. A light blush formed, but with her mask concealing her features, no one could see it.

Ash leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Shhh… shut up."

The pirate froze, his breath coming out in short gasps.

"Now," Ash continued, his tone sharp and unforgiving. "You're going to answer my questions. Truthfully. If I hear even a hint of a lie… I'll make you wish you were dead instead."

The pirate's mouth opened, but no words came out—only foam began forming at the corners as he nodded frantically, consumed by fear.

Ash began his interrogation, pressing him for details—where the captured villagers were being held, whether Mad-Eye Rho was present, and the number of enemies on the island.

Shaking and stammering, the pirate revealed everything.

Once Ash had gathered all the information he needed, he knocked the man unconscious again, letting his limp body drop onto the sand.

Ash clapped his hands together, as if dusting off dirt, then turned back to the girls with a cheerful grin. "Alright! We got what we need. Shall we go teach the remaining idiots a good lesson?"

Selina sighed, shaking her head. "How can you switch from being so serious to cheerful so easily?"

Ash smirked, his tone turning teasing. "Come on, Selina. I made a promise to protect you guys. If someone lays a hand on my friends, my family... or what's mine, they'll have to answer to me."

Selina's cheeks reddened slightly at the way he said it, her eyes darting away.

Uta laughed and suddenly hugged Ash. "Good answer, Ash!"

Lucy grinned. "That's right! If they mess with you, they have to answer to me too!"

Still clinging to him, Uta nodded. "Same for us, Ash."

The heavy tension in the air eased, their spirits lifting as they prepared for the fight ahead.

Ash then took charge again. "Alright, here's the plan. The villagers who were captured are being held in a cave somewhere on the island. Meanwhile, the Mad-Eye Pirates are partying in the village of their resent victory."

He crossed his arms. "First, we take down all of Rho's pirates. Then, we free the hostages. We don't need casualties."

Lucy pumped her fist. "Let's go! I wanna beat their captain!"

Ace immediately shot her a glare. "No way! You already had your chance before!"

Lucy indignantly turned to her. "What?! But that guy was weak! That doesn't count, Ace!"

Ace huffed. "It still counts!"

Their yelling match escalated, neither backing down.

Ash sighed and quickly stepped in. "Guys, we'll decide after finding them, alright? Besides, there are over a hundred small fries here. You'll both get plenty of chances to show off what you learned in training."

Lucy and Ace crossed their arms and huffed. "Hmph. Fine."

Uta and Selina exchanged relieved looks, thinking, "Finally, that was settled easily."

Ash then turned toward the direction of the village. "Alright, let's move out."

With that, Ash and the girls began their advance, following the information they had extracted from the pirate. As they moved through the island, they remained on high alert—keeping an eye out for any patrols or wandering pirates standing guard.

After walking for sometime, they finally caught sight of the village. It was clear that Rho had grown overconfident after defeating the Marines—he hadn't even bothered to station guards or patrols, aside from the ones they had already taken down at the shore.

Ash scanned the area and soon noticed two young women near Rho, serving him drinks. Their expressions were filled with fear and discomfort, making it clear they were being forced into this situation.

With a subtle hand signal, Ash gestured toward the two young women and then pointed at Uta and Selina, instructing them to retrieve them. Both girls gave a small nod in understanding.

However, Lucy, as usual, had a confused expression. "Ash, what game are you playing with Selina and Uta?"

Ash and the others facepalmed at her lack of understanding.

Sighing, Ash quickly explained, "I was using hand signals to tell Uta and Selina to go and rescue those two villagers."

Lucy blinked before grinning. "Oh! Why didn't you just say so? I can do it!"

Before anyone could react, she vanished using Soru in an instant.

In the blink of an eye, she reappeared, carrying both of the crying young women who had been serving Rho. The stunned pirates had barely realized what had happened before their captives were gone.

When Lucy pulled off her stunt, Ash literally had tears in his eyes—whether from frustration or sheer disbelief, even he wasn't sure.

As soon as she landed with the two young women, Ash immediately bonked her on the head. "Lucy, you idiot! Why can't you just wait?!"

Lucy pouted, rubbing her head. "But waiting is boring! I wanna fight already!"

Ash just let out a deep sigh, feeling the exhaustion settle in before the battle had even begun.

Before he could say anything else, a sudden scream echoed from the village.

Ash's eyes narrowed. "Tch… They noticed." He turned toward the two young women Lucy had brought, disgruntled but focused.

"Hey, are you guys okay?" he asked, keeping his voice as calm as possible.

One of the women, tears streaming down her face, struggled to speak. "Our families… captured…"

Ash placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry. We came here to take care of these guys and help your village."

Hearing his firm words, the two women hesitated but nodded. The girls also gave them words of encouragement, helping ease their fear.

Ash then gestured toward the opposite direction of the village. "Go. Hide somewhere safe. We'll handle the rest."

With one last nod, the two villagers turned and ran away, heading toward safety while Ash and the girls turned their attention back to the pirates.

After making sure the two young women were far away from the village, Ash and the girls immediately sprinted forward, closing the distance toward Rho and his pirates.

Meanwhile, Rho's furious voice echoed through the village. "FIND THEM! FIND WHOEVER DARED TO COME HERE!" He kept yelling, his frustration growing as his men scrambled in confusion. "WHOEVER IT IS, I'LL TEAR THEM APART!"

Just then, Ash and the girls stepped forward into the open.

Lucy smirked, cupping her hands around her mouth as she shouted loud enough for every pirate to hear.

"HEY, YOU IDIOTS! ARE YOU LOOKING FOR US?!"

A heavy silence followed. All the pirates froze in place before turning toward them. The crowd of men slowly split apart, leaving an open path where Mad-Eye Rho stood in full view, his furious gaze locking onto them.

Rho's face twisted in rage as he took a step forward, his furious gaze locked onto Ash and the girls.

"WHO THE HELL ARE YOU BASTARDS?! HOW DARE YOU SET FOOT IN MY TERRITORY AND STEAL MY WOMEN?!" he roared.

Ash scoffed, crossing his arms. "Your women? Your territory? Don't make me laugh. Didn't you force your way onto this village and take those women against their will?"

Ace smirked, leaning her rifle on her shoulder. "You're right, Shadow. I don't think any woman would even talk to this guy willingly. Just look at his ugly face."

Selina, Uta, and Lucy giggled, while Ash outright laughed, shaking his head.

Rho's face turned beet red with anger, veins bulging on his forehead. He clenched his fists, grinding his teeth in fury as his crew grew tense around him.

"YOU DARE MOCK ME IN MY OWN PLACE?! WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!" he bellowed.

Ash's smirk widened. "Who are we? Well… we're just here to collect your bounty."

Rho threw his head back and let out a mocking laugh, his voice dripping with arrogance. "Hah! The chickens have walked straight into the slaughterhouse! How generous of you to save me the trouble of hunting you down!"

Hearing this, the pirates around them erupted into laughter, jeering at Ash and the girls as if they were already defeated.

Selina's eye twitched in irritation before she shouted back, her voice sharp and filled with challenge. "Hey, ugly! Are you gonna fight or just run your mouth all night?!"

The laughter immediately died down. The pirates stared in shock, and Rho's mocking grin twisted into pure rage. His face turned from red to nearly purple, his body trembling as veins bulged on his forehead.

With a furious roar, he pointed at Ash and the girls, spitting out his command.

"CAPTURE THEM! I'LL TORTURE AND KILL THEM MYSELF! I'LL MAKE AN EXAMPLE OUT OF THEM SO NO ONE EVER DARES TO CROSS ME AGAIN!"

All the pirates lunged forward, weapons raised, ready to strike down Ash and the girls.

Ash's eyes sharpened as he immediately called out, "Alright, girls! Take your pick—but let me handle the captain."

Ace immediately protested, stepping forward. "But Ash—"

Ash raised a hand, cutting her off. "He's special. Let me take care of him." His eyes flickered towards another figure standing beside Rho. He pointed him out. "See that guy next to Rho? Selina, you and Ace will take him down."

Selina narrowed her eyes at the man. "Who is he?"

"Vargas the Black Gale," Ash replied.

Ace grinned confidently. "I can handle him myself."

Ash shook his head. "No, listen, Ace. He's strong. You and Selina take him together."

Ace frowned but eventually nodded in understanding.

Meanwhile, Uta and Lucy glanced at each other.

"And what about us?" Uta asked.

Ash smirked. "You two handle the rest of the pirates."

Uta nodded in agreement, while Lucy pouted, crossing her arms. "Fine. But next time, the stronger one is mine!"

Ash chuckled and nodded. "Sure. As you say."

Just then, two charging pirates swung their cutlasses at Ash from both sides. His Observation Haki flared, and he instantly reacted, raising Kashu to block both blades with ease.

At the same time, Uta and Lucy lunged forward, each delivering a powerful kick to two incoming pirates, knocking them out cold.

Ash then jumped high into the air using Geppo, flipping forward before plummeting down toward Rho.

Activating Tekkai, he slammed with his leg down on Rho with full force.

CLANG!

Rho raised his cutlass just in time, barely managing to block the attack. The sheer force of impact sent dust exploding outward, shrouding the battlefield in a thick cloud.

Vargas attempted to intervene, but before he could, Selina and Ace rushed in, blocking his path and forcing him into a fight them.

Ash took a moment to observe tilting his head looking at his face. His foot was still pressed against Rho's cutlass. The pirate captain's teeth were clenched, his arms trembling slightly from the pressure.

Ash smirked before jumping back, creating some distance between them.

"Wow, you blocked that, huh?" Ash remarked, sounding impressed.

Rho's face twisted in anger, his grip tightening on his cutlass.

Ash grinned. "Hey, don't hold back. Use your full power from the start—don't take me lightly. I expect a good fight."

But instead of heeding the warning, Rho, still brimming with false confidence, rushed forward with a furious yell!

Both fighters clashed head-on, Rho's cutlass meeting Ash's Kashu, their weapons sparking on impact.

{}

Rho swung his cutlass in a wild arc, aiming straight for Ash's neck. But Ash tilted his head slightly, the blade whizzing past him, missing by inches.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

Ash and Rho exchanged rapid blows, their weapons colliding with bursts of sparks. The sheer force of their swings sent gusts of wind whipping around them, the dust from the ground swirling in the intensity of their duel.

Rho gritted his teeth, swinging his cutlass again in a wide arc, attempting to slice through Ash's defense. But Ash effortlessly parried, twisting his wrist and deflecting the blade to the side before countering with a sharp horizontal slash.

"Tch!" Rho barely managed to step back, the edge of Ash's Kashu whistling past his torso, cutting a small tear in his coat.

Before Rho could recover, Ash stepped in and slashed horizontally with Kashu. Rho barely managed to block, but the sheer force sent him skidding back, his boots digging into the dirt.

Rho growled, lunging forward again, this time swinging downward with all his strength. Ash angled his blade up, stopping the attack, but the force pushed him slightly back.

Seizing the moment, Rho quickly swung his cutlass again, attempting a diagonal slash—but Ash sidestepped, making Rho's blade cut through empty air.

"Too slow." Ash smirked before thrusting forward with Kashu.

With a burst of speed, Ash closed the distance, unleashing a flurry of precise slashes. Rho desperately parried, but his movements were sloppy, his cutlass shaking from the repeated impacts.

Realizing he was being pushed back, Rho's eyes gleamed with desperation. He suddenly ducked low, sweeping his cutlass at Ash's legs.

Ash instantly reacted—jumping over the blade, flipping mid-air before bringing Kashu down in a fierce vertical strike.

"DAMN IT!" Rho roared, barely managing to cross his cutlass overhead, blocking the attack—but the sheer weight of Ash's strike forced him down to one knee. His arms shook violently, his grip on his weapon starting to weaken.

Ash didn't let chance for him to get up. Ash twisted his wrist, slipping past Rho's defense, and delivered a clean cut across his shoulder.

"Gahh!" Rho stumbled back, gripping his wounded arm. Blood dripped from the fresh wound, staining his coat.

Rho's breathing became ragged, but his rage only grew. "Bastard! Don't get cocky!"

With a furious roar, he lunged, swinging wildly. But his attacks were too predictable, too sluggish.

Ash easily sidestepped, dodging every reckless swing. With a quick counter, he twisted his sword, pushing down harder.

The ground beneath Rho cracked. His cutlass creaked under the pressure. Sweat dripped down Rho's face, his once arrogant smirk now replaced with panic.

Rho tried to push back, summoning all his strength, but Ash tilted his blade, swiftly disarming him.

With one final powerful strike, Ash knocked the cutlass out of Rho's hands, sending it flying several meters away before it clattered against the ground.

THUD!

Rho froze. His fingers trembled as he stared at his empty hands.

Ash twirled Kashu in his hand and rested it on his shoulder. "So… still feeling confident? Ready to surrender now?" His voice carried a teasing, almost condescending tone.

"LIKE HELL I WILL—!" Rho roared in rage.

Suddenly, his body began to shift, muscles bulging as his limbs elongated. His fingers extended into razor-sharp claws, his nails blackened and curved like talons. His spine arched, giving him a hunched and feral posture, his jaw stretching slightly to reveal sharp, jagged fangs. His previously tan skin darkened, patches of fur appearing on his arms and legs.

His eyes glowed an ominous red, flickering with an unsettling gleam—the source of his infamous 'Mad Eye' nickname.

Ash smirked, nodding to himself. "Finally taking this fight seriously, huh?" He glanced at Rho's changing form, analyzing his features. "A Zoan-type Devil Fruit… interesting."

Rho paused, slightly taken aback. "What?"

He had expected fear—or at least shock—from Ash. Devil Fruits were rare myths in the East Blue. When he revealed his monstrous side, most would either freeze in terror or flee. But Ash? He was smiling!?

Rho's confusion deepened as Ash simply stood there, rubbing his chin as if casually pondering something. What kind of reaction was this?!

Ash tilted his head, observing Rho's hunched form and the unsettling cackling laughter spilling from his lips. His stance, his fangs, his claws…

"Let me guess…" Ash mused aloud, his eyes narrowing slightly. "A jackal?"

Rho twitched but said nothing.

Ash snapped his fingers. "Nah… wait. A hyena." His smirk widened. "That suits you better."

Rho's eye twitched in irritation. How did he figure it out so quickly?!

Unbeknownst to him, Ash had already confirmed his Devil Fruit through Observe. He had known from the beginning. But there was no need to let Rho know that.

This was exactly why he had wanted to fight Rho himself. Ace could handle him, but beating him would be difficult.

Now… it was time to see just how strong this so-called 'Mad Eye Rho' really was.

Ash tilted his head slightly, watching Rho's transformed state with a look of mild amusement. His smirk never wavered as he rested Kashu on his shoulder.

"Well? Are you coming or not?" His voice was calm, almost taunting.

Rho snarled, his elongated claws twitching as rage consumed him. "You cocky little—!!"

With explosive force, he lunged forward, his razor-like claws swiping through the air with terrifying speed. Ash barely had time to react as Rho's feral slashes tore through the space where he stood.

CLANG!

Ash parried the attack with Kashu, but the sheer force pushed him back, his feet dragging across the ground. Rho was faster than before, and added his brute strength which also had clearly increased.

"Tch—." Ash thought, gritting his teeth as he jumped back, narrowly avoiding another swipe aimed at his neck.

SLASH!

A sudden sharp pain cut across his arm. Ash's eyes widened slightly as he glanced at the fresh gash Rho had managed to land.

Rho grinned, baring his jagged fangs as he licked the blood off his claws. "What's wrong? Not so confident now, are you?"

Ash exhaled sharply, his free hand touching his side. The cut wasn't deep, but it stung. He smirked. "Oh? You actually got me."

Rho snarled. "I'll do a lot more than that—!"

Ash rotated his injured arm with a sigh. "You talk too much."

Rho growled and lunged again, this time aiming low, swiping at Ash's legs to throw him off balance. Ash jumped high with Geppo, flipping in the air before diving down, sword-first.

"Skyward Crushing Fang!"

His blade came down like an iron hammer, but Rho dodged at the last moment, his hyena-like agility allowing him to roll away. He countered instantly, his claws slashing across Ash's torso.

SHRIP!

Ash gritted his teeth as three deep cuts appeared on his side. He winced but stood his ground, gripping Kashu tightly covering his body with Tekkai helped reduce the damage. Anyone at his place would have spilled their guts.

Rho lunged again, his claws shining under the moonlight—

Ash bobbed and weaved, dodging most of the attacks, but Rho's new Zoan-enhanced speed and reach made it difficult. Several times, Ash had to block with Kashu, and even then, Rho's sheer force sent vibrations up his arm.

A sudden swipe of Rho's clawed foot caught Ash off guard, slamming into his ribs and sending him skidding backward.

Rho cackled. "What's wrong? Can't keep up?!"

Ash coughed but chuckled, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth. "Not bad…" His stance straightened, his gaze sharpening. "But it's my turn now."

WHOOSH—!

Ash vanished.

Rho's eyes widened. "What the—?!"

BANG!

A devastating kick to his gut sent Rho soaring backward, crashing into the dirt.

Ash's Observation Haki kicked in, and he suddenly sidestepped, avoiding Rho's strike by a hair's breadth. In the same motion, he twisted his wrist—

SLASH!

A clean cut sliced across Rho's leg.

Rho howled in pain, stumbling. Ash didn't waste a second—he closed the distance instantly, delivering a brutal spinning kick to Rho's gut.

"Rankyaku—Severing Gale!"

A sharp air blade shot from Ash's kick, cutting across Rho's chest. Ash smirked. "What was that about keeping up?"

Rho gasped, blood splattering from his wound, but he refused to fall. He growled, his eyes glowing even brighter, and suddenly, his body bulked up even more.

"You think that's enough to take me down?!" Rho roared.

He swung wildly, his claws tearing through Ash's jacket and leaving red streaks across his shoulder.

Ash winced but didn't falter. Instead, he let out a chuckle. "I see…" He took a deep breath, gripping Kashu tighter. "…you're not bad. But I'm done playing around."

Rho's eyes widened in confusion—

Then, in the next instant— Ash vanished again.

"W-What—?!"

Before Rho could react, Ash appeared behind him, Kashu glowing faintly under moonlight.

"Final Dance: Silent Tempest."

SLASH—SLASH—SLASH—!!

A series of blindingly fast strikes rained down on Rho, cutting across his arms, legs, and torso in rapid succession.

Rho staggered, blood dripping from countless fresh wounds. His breathing was ragged, his limbs shaking.

Ash turned, resting Kashu on his shoulder again. "You're done."

Rho collapsed to one knee, panting heavily. His beastly form flickered as he struggled to maintain it. His claws dug into the dirt, struggling to push himself up.

His body was cut, bruised, and exhausted.

For the first time, Rho felt fear. And in that moment—he knew. He knew he had lost.

Ash, standing tall, twirled Kashu once before resting it on his shoulder again with steady breadth.

Blood dripped from his own wounds, but he still stood firm. Ash smirked. "I told you not to take me lightly."

Rho, despite his wounds and exhaustion, refused to accept defeat. Like a mad dog, he lunged one last time, his claws aiming straight for Ash's throat.

Ash, already prepared, reacted swiftly. With a decisive slash—

SHING!

A deep cut tore across Rho's chest deeper.

"GAHHH!!" Rho screamed in agony, his voice echoing through the village.

His body convulsed before finally collapsing to the ground, unmoving.

The remaining pirates, who had been fighting desperately, froze in fear. Their expressions turned pale as they watched their captain fall.

Their morale shattered.

"C-Captain… lost?" one pirate stammered, his weapon shaking in his hands.

Before they could react further—

BOOM!

Ace and Selina unleashed their final attacks, striking Vargas, with enough force to send him crashing into the dirt—unconscious.

With both Rho and Vargas down, the remaining pirates stood paralyzed—until Uta and Lucy rushed in, taking down the last few fighters with ease.

THUD!

As the last pirate fell. Silence filled the battlefield.
