Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 Fate

The azure sea under the sunlight shimmered with glistening, rainbow-colored sparkles, and the beach curved like a silver ribbon, with flocks of seagulls scattered on the rocks, strutting about proudly with their little chests puffed up.

Visitors laughed as they threw food to the birds, but the little guys weren't in a rush to peck at the food. Their tiny eyes rolled about and, when no one was paying attention, they quickly swallowed the food, then strutted a few steps with an air of nonchalance, only to quickly snatch another bite. Their comical and adorable antics drew bursts of laughter from the tourists.

Some children, eager to feed the birds, grabbed crumbs and tried to approach them, causing the little creatures to puff up and squawk, flapping away to a further spot to enjoy the affections of another group of tourists.

A smile played on Luo Ye's lips. How many years had it been since she paid attention or observed such a beautiful scene? Now that she was blessed by fate, while striving to change everything, she also had to learn to enjoy life!

The matters of Wenxin Garden were urgent, but they couldn't be resolved in just a day or two. She could afford to give the other side some leaping time, so they would be truly convinced, wouldn't she?

"Ye'er, here!" Luo Feng stuffed a packet of breadcrumbs he'd bought into Luo Ye's hands, happy to see his sister interested in something.

Luo Ye glanced at the bag and teasingly laughed, "Brother, you still have money on you?" Luo Feng had emptied his pockets to pay the hotel bill earlier.

Luo Feng glanced at Zhuang Meili, who was following him closely, "I borrowed it from her!"

"It's not borrowing, not borrowing, if Ye'er is happy, I'm overjoyed!" Zhuang Meili waved her hands, her nose beading with sweat from her haste.

Luo Ye smiled sweetly, "Then I'll give you half, it's not often we're all in a good mood, with good weather and a good view, let's enjoy ourselves for a bit!"

"Thank you, Ye'er!" Zhuang Meili's face lit up with excitement, knowing the person Luo Feng cared most about was his sister. As long as Luo Ye liked her, she had a chance!

Zhuang Meili's bright smile stung Liang Jing's eyes, turning them inexplicably red. Intuition told her that Luo Ye didn't like her, but it wasn't her who ordered the pathetic food!

Luo Ye glanced at Liang Jing and grabbed Luo Feng to run off, "Brother, let's go feed the seagulls!"

Zhuang Meili hesitated for a moment, then pulled on Liang Jing, "Jingjing, let's hurry and catch up!"

Liang Jing held her in return, "Meili, do you think I'm shameless?"

Meili forced a smile, "Of course not! You're overthinking it, err... Tell me the truth, do you like Luo Feng too?"

"Meili, I'm not trying to compete with you for him. I just think he's considerate and doesn't look down on me being from the countryside with a low education. I just really want to experience being treated equally by a local.

I know you want to be alone with him, but I still shamelessly stayed because I'm afraid, afraid I'll never have the chance to feel this way again," Liang Jing said earnestly.

"Jingjing…" Zhuang Meili's eyes reddened, "I understand how you feel, just like me, back in my hometown school, loved by teachers, respected by students, happy every day like a Spiritual Bird.

Back then, I imagined university life to be incredibly wonderful, but when I really got here, I realized that university life is different from what I imagined. Besides study, people also focus on many external conditions…"

...

"Ye'er, I feel… do you particularly dislike Liang Jing?" Luo Feng glanced at Zhuang Meili and Liang Jing, who were walking over in the distance, and voiced his doubt.

Luo Feng, who hadn't received an answer, was speechless when he turned to look at his sister. A Little Seagull was standing in front of his sister, pecking at the food in her hand bite by bite, with onlooking tourists staring in astonishment.

"Wow, this young lady is incredible!"

"Yeah, yeah, these seagulls here, although not afraid of humans, don't get close to people. Can this young lady understand the language of birds?"

"How come your words sound like you're insulting someone? You understand how birds talk!"

"That's not the same thing at all!"

Amidst everyone's chatter, a five or six-year-old little boy sidled up to Luo Ye: "Sister, can I let the seagulls eat my bread too?"

"Of course, you squat next to sister and must not mean to harm it!" Luo Ye said with a smile, pulling the chubby-cheeked little boy to squat beside her.

But the Little Seagull got scared and took a step back before flapping its wings and flying away, landing on a distant rock and occasionally glancing towards Luo Ye.

"Sister, the seagull doesn't like me!" The little boy pouted, and his tears started rolling down pitter-patter.

"The seagull doesn't dislike you. It just had its fill and wanted to go rest for a bit!" Luo Ye, who always found it head-scratching to coax children, forced herself to comfort the little boy.

A beautiful woman in her thirties came over, smiling gratefully at Luo Ye and picked up the little boy soothing him: "Jingjing, how can a man cry? Sister will laugh at you!"

The little boy quickly snuffled up his nose, looking at Luo Ye: "Sister, Jingjing doesn't usually cry!"

Luo Ye's lips curled into a smile: "Sister can tell that Jingjing just really loves the Little Seagull!"

"Right, right!" The little boy excitedly nodded his little head: "Sister, when you feed the seagulls next time, don't let it eat too much so Jingjing can also feed it a bit, okay?"

"Okay!"

The little boy looked towards the middle-aged beautiful woman: "Mom, give sister our home phone number so next time she comes to feed the seagulls, she can invite us too!"

The middle-aged beautiful woman's face showed a hint of difficulty and after a slight hesitation, she wrote down a note and handed it to Luo Ye: "Young lady, this is my home number. I have something else to attend to, so I'm gonna take my son and leave first."

"Goodbye!" Luo Ye didn't even look as she crumpled the note into a ball and threw it into the sea. This action was caught squarely by the middle-aged beautiful woman, who flashed a smile of relief and quickly walked away.

"Ye'er?" Luo Feng asked, puzzled.

"She didn't really want us to know her home number. Just by looking at her dress, one can tell she's either rich or noble, get it?" Luo Ye said as she waved to the Little Seagull that was still watching. The little creature flapped its wings and flew back.

"Ye'er, I've noticed that while your personality has changed, you have also become much smarter!" Luo Feng said, surprised, as he watched the little creature start pecking food again: "Ye'er, why does it only recognize you?"

"Maybe it's destiny? I just waved my hand like this earlier and it came over!" Luo Ye continued meaningfully: "True destiny has no reasons or justifications. It doesn't like purposeful calls."

"Will it eat if I feed it?" Luo Feng squatted next to Luo Ye. The Little Seagull glanced at him, ignored him, and continued to peck slowly at the breadcrumbs in Luo Ye's hand.

On closer inspection, the Little Seagull was actually playing with Luo Ye, pecking a few times and then looking up at her. Seeing no reaction from Luo Ye, it would lower its little head and continue pecking. It would take about a dozen pecks before it would eat a piece – it was clearly just playing with people.

Passersby would stop to watch this rare and strange sight, some took out cameras to take pictures but were stopped by Luo Feng.

"Brother, not bad, you've made progress!" Luo Ye finally complimented Luo Feng sincerely.

Nu'an would like to express special thanks to "Bony Little Bunny" and "Lianyan" for their pink tickets, special thanks to "ぐ戀貓﹏" and "Yunuo" for their PK tickets, and special thanks to "Super Super Worm" for the reward.
