Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 Past Events

Back in her room, Luo Ye was unable to calm her mind. The loneliness and desolation that followed her family's departure in her previous life emerged like a venomous snake, gnawing at her heart, hindering her studies and sleep.

The ultimate downfall of the Luo Family, with their household destroyed and lives lost, was primarily due to her father's misplaced trust. He not only aligned with the wrong power and became someone's pawn, but his life was taken, leaving enemies to suspect that Luo Feng and Luo Ye might possess incriminating knowledge.

Luo Ye was fortunate to escape because her beauty had left a lasting impression on the youngest son of the adversaries. Upon overhearing his father's secret orders to dispose of her, he preemptively found and whisked her away from the rental house.

At that time, Luo Ye did not realize the boy's father was her own father's murderer. Instead, she regarded him as the most trustworthy uncle, or else she wouldn't have complied so readily when the boy urged her to flee.

Knowing he couldn't protect Luo Ye, the boy, in his passionate youth and genuine affection for her, revealed part of the truth he had overheard to Luo Ye, urging her to flee as far as possible. When she showed skepticism, he played a secretly recorded conversation for her.

Reeling from multiple blows, Luo Ye didn't know whom she could trust in this world. After much thought, her only reliable family seemed to be her Grandpa. However, she didn't want to bring danger to him again. In despair, she decided to visit the graves of her father, mother, and brother to pay respects, intending to depart from this world and join her family.

Coincidentally, Luo Zhenggang's best friend Jiang Zheng had returned home from a mission and, hearing about Luo Zhenggang's affairs and failing to find Luo Ye, went to the cemetery. He stealthily took Luo Ye, who had fainted from crying, and using his official power, had her name changed and placed her into the A Squadron as a soldier.

The enemies must have known Jiang Zheng would take actions against them. Since the incident involving Luo Zhenggang, they had turned over a new leaf and become upstanding officials. Previous evidence was long destroyed, leaving Jiang Zheng and Luo Ye without sufficient proof to bring their enemy down. That was the very reason Luo Ye chose to die alongside her enemy — her heart was filled with hatred, and living was nothing but torture!

In this life, she wanted to retrieve all the evidence before the incident. After Luo Zhenggang's mishap, one of the adversary's old houses caught fire and burned down to the ground. Following analysis with Jiang Zheng, they concluded the old house, inconspicuous as it was, made the best storage for the evidence.

However, whether it was retrieving the evidence or investigating, she required exceptional skills. With her current frail Lin Daiyu-like constitution, there was no need to dream about it. Thankfully, there were still over four years to go, ample time for everything.

Right! She could apply to the military academy where she could legitimately develop exceptional skills and, with hard work, strive to once again become a subordinate of Jiang Zheng, fulfilling her regret of never properly becoming the soldier Uncle Jiang had hoped for.

However, the military academy required proficiency in the sciences, alas, she needed to work twice as hard, or else it would all just be wishful thinking!

The critical point was that the Old Fox must not have been reborn as well. If that were the case, all her plans might again go awry. How could she arrange to see him as soon as possible?

His status was too high; not someone she could simply meet at her wish. But just being kept in suspense like this was too unbearable!

In fact, if Luo Zhenggang had not prohibited his children from visiting his office, this would not be a problem. Maybe she could defy him once more, pretending to look for Luo Zhenggang and slip over to the other side for a little investigation?

Such a conundrum, all caused by her father, all his fault... Burdened with resentment, Luo Ye fell into a teary sleep.

Half an hour later, the door opened quietly, and Wen Xin slipped in, softly covering her daughter with a blanket and wiping away the tears that lingered at the corners of her eyes.

Her daughter's questioning echoed in her ears, and Wen Xin felt immense guilt. She had always seen her daughter as a child, assuming she wouldn't understand or overthink, never realizing how much her excess affection for her husband could grievously hurt her daughter.

Her marriage to Luo Zhenggang was the result of sacrificing everything, making her the forsaken daughter of the Wen Family. Yet, she never regretted it.

After marriage, although Luo Zhenggang was strict with the children, he was always tender with her, granting her immense happiness. Therefore, she adhered to her husband's wishes regarding their children, implementing a policy of indifference.

"Ye'er, you and Feng'er are both treasures in Mom's heart, it's just that Mom always felt that Dad is the pillar of the family and should receive more of Mom's care. From now on, Mom will pay attention to this!" After saying this, Wen Xin kissed her daughter's forehead gently and tiptoed out of the room.

The moment the room's door closed, tears rolled down from Luo Ye's eyes. It seems that change begins starting from today, so every day in the future will be filled with hope!

...

At five in the morning, Luo Ye got out of bed and went to knock on Luo Feng's bedroom door, "Bro, time to wake up!"

After Luo Ye spoke, there was no sound from the room.

"Wake up, bro, wake up!..." Luo Ye twisted open the door, walked into the room and yanked the blanket before twisting Luo Feng's ear: "Hurry up and get up for a run!"

Luo Feng, still half asleep, glanced at the time: "Ye'er, did your brain go numb from sleep? It's only five o'clock."

"It's your brain that went numb, didn't we agree yesterday that we would exercise together? Hurry up!" As she spoke, Luo Ye threw his clothes at him: "Be quick about it. If you're still dawdling by the time I'm done washing up, you're going out to run with messy hair and eye boogers!"

"Ye'er..." Luo Feng was really not accustomed to this type of sister. Was this really his gentle and timid sister? Could it be that just one fainting incident changed her completely?

"Rest assured, I haven't had a brain transplant, if you don't hurry up, then prepare to run out in your pajamas!" Luo Ye quickly disappeared at the door.

Luo Feng, frightened, hurried to change. Judging by his sister's current state, it seemed she might really drag him out just like that.

...

Given Luo Ye's current physical condition, she naturally couldn't compare to Luo Feng. On the first day of exercise, it was obvious that Luo Feng was running leisurely while Luo Ye was desperately chasing after him.

When Luo Feng dragged Luo Ye back home, looking like a beaten dog, with a face flushed red and sweat dripping, Wen Xin, who was cooking breakfast, trembled and the spatula clanged to the floor.

The sound caught the attention of Luo Zhenggang who was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper. Following Wen Xin's gaze to Luo Ye and Luo Feng, he frowned: "Why be so reckless? Who starts training like that?"

Wen Xin rushed out of the kitchen to help her daughter sit on the sofa: "Exactly, exactly, Ye'er, if you keep this up, you will have aches all over tomorrow, unable to lie down or sit still. Exercise should be gradual, how else can you bear it? Come on, let Mom give you a massage; Feng'er, go make the porridge in the kitchen!"

"Got it!" Luo Feng quickly went into the kitchen to take over his mother's work.

Luo Zhenggang was about to stop them, but when he caught his daughter's slightly angry look, he hesitated, didn't utter a word, and pondered in his heart, what exactly had he done that his daughter couldn't forgive?
