After a night full of bountiful sleep, Chase was of course thirty minutes late for his first class of the day.
Not much happened throughout the day, after all most of the students that also played on the Aetherball team either never showed up for classes or were far too upset for conversation, let alone studying.
Making his way through the western branch of the academy, Chase let out a tired yawn.
Of course he had not actually gotten any sleep, and had been up reading the ancient book that Professor Barron had given him a couple of months ago.
He had not really been able to obtain any useful information, and had been quite distracted by a multitude of things.
One of them, was his endless search for the euphoria that the neon green flames had brought him within the mimic's world.
He had finished reading about twelve or so books based on ancient flames, and had still not even found one that carried the color of green.
Then there was also the restless hellhound that would occasional let out a whimper or growl within his soul.
The canine refused any summons, and would not leave enter the physical world for whatever reason.
Also, there was the god known as Eternity...
Chase shook his head, knowing full well that it was better just to leave the thought alone.
There were just too many questions, and hardly any answers.
Stepping into the combat training room, he was greeted with quite a confusing sight.
Barron was holding Neo down by his bright blue hair, while Michael and Hans were pinning down a familiar orange haired sociopath.
Leo was yelling something about vengeance, which was surprising considering the fact that he wasn't even in this class, or even a first year at that.
"Damned Idiot!"
Barron growled into Neo's ear, as the man didn't put much effort into keeping the powerful second son of Cobra at bay.
Stopping Poppy and Neveah's side, Chase leaned over curiously raising an eyebrow and pointing at the interesting conflict on the center of the training platform.
Both of the girls shrugged, while also seeming quiet intrigued by whatever vile act Neo had done to the heir of the house of Lion.
Equan walked in next, looked at the Professor and the three students, rubbed his eyes, and shook his head.
Then the dark skinned boy walked over to Chase, giving him a questioning look.
Of course he just shrugged in response.
This took up about twenty minutes of class, before they were able to drag the two students to Leander's office.
All of the students (Except for the obvious two) were now seated on the bleachers, chatting away.
Eventually Barron began his lecture on something Chase had actually been quite curious about for a while.
"I'm sure that most of you are aware of imbuing the body with Axis energy..."
Everyone nodded silently.
"While I'd like to discuss this imbuement process a little, since I've seen plenty of flaws in a lot of your imbued movements."
Chase lifted his notebook up, and began to draw something that resembled the human body.
Barron continued on after a moment of consideration.
"Most of you, use something called an Axis Twitch... Which acts as a sort of dashing ability, and takes place when you imbue your legs with a fair amount of energy."
Barron glanced at Chase, causing a flinch.
"During the recent Frostfang game, I was able to see a unique way of using an Axis Twitch."
He raised an eyebrow at Chase, as if asking if it was alright to use him as an example.
Shrugging, he looked back down at the diagram that he was working on.
"One of the Phoenix players used an Axis Twitch as a launch of sorts, and launching themselves vertically into the air. Almost as if it was a form of flight, which caused me to figure that it was about time I taught you all how to use the next evolution of Axis Twitch."
Chase glanced up, remembering the situation he had gotten into during the final minutes of yesterday's game. He had channeled his Axis into his legs and indeed used the launch as a sort of flight.
While it wasn't true flight, he was still able to get enough separation for him to catch his breath.
He grimaced when he remembered how it had ended though.
Barron pulled a chalkboard out from the side of the room, and dragged it over and in front of the bleachers.
Pointing at the very well drawn out picture on it, he began.
"Axis has no origin, unlike other energy sources. It is simply always within your body, and always flowing."
He paused.
"So therefor it has very few limitations, but is the most draining source of energy to rely on."
Tapping the board with a stick that had seemed to have appeared out of thin air.
"This is the second evolution of Axis Twitch, known as Axis Step."
Taking a deep breath, he began to explain this new ability.
"By building up energy within your Achilles Tendon you can create a form of bridge between your body and the ground below you."
Barron yawned.
"Unlike Axis Twitch which is considered a wild and chaotic use of Axis energy, the Axis Step is far more intricate and graceful. Instead of destroying the ground below you when launching forward, you simply skate across the ground at a much faster speed with more precision."
Chase's attention had been caught, and he was now listening closely.
"However, Axis Step has many limitations. One of which being far less distance than a Twitch."
Then he shoved the board back over to the side of the room. As it slid away, Barron stretched his neck resulting in a loud crack.
With a deep breath he relaxed his body, and casually loosened his normally stiffened stance.
With a quiet rustle of wind, Professor Barron was suddenly standing on the other side of the room.
Then he shrugged, with a slight smirk on his usually angered face.
"I do hope you caught that."
