Chapter 58 - CHAPTER 57: Laboratory

Morpheus looked at Javier with an evil smile and tried to slash his body with his sharp claws.

To everyone else, Morpheus was incredibly fast—but to Javier, there was no difference at all.

Just when Morpheus was feeling proud, Javier raised his hand and grabbed Morpheus's claw.

Javier was not afraid of the electric current.

Morpheus stared at Javier in shock.

Then, Javier punched the still-confused Morpheus, sending him flying into the sea—where he quickly disappeared beneath the waves.

Seeing Javier defeat Morpheus with a single punch, Bruce's jaw dropped, his expression almost comical.

Fong Ling was equally shocked by his strength.

"Let's get out of here quickly. The ship is about to hit the island."

At Javier's reminder, they snapped back to reality.

By this time, the cruise ship was rapidly approaching the island.

Everyone quickly jumped into a lifeboat, then moved away from the ship and rowed toward the island's nearby dock.

The men took charge of rowing, while the two women looked back at the cruise ship.

"My travel plans are ruined," Natasha said, frustrated.

Javier smiled when he heard this.

"There will be more chances in the future. Then we can travel together."

Natasha said nothing and simply sighed.

Boom!

With a loud explosion, the Spencer Grace crashed into the island's rocky cliffs, erupting in a massive fireball that lit up the entire island.

Even from a distance, they could feel the wave of heat reaching them.

They were extremely lucky—had they not escaped, they would've gone down with the ship.

Shortly after rowing, everyone reached the dock.

Once they stepped onto land, the appearance of the island was revealed.

There was an abandoned building standing before them.

Javier examined it carefully. The structure resembled a factory.

Everyone began walking toward it. The place was in ruins and looked like it had been abandoned a long time ago.

"Look over there," Natasha said, pointing ahead.

Everyone turned and saw the Umbrella logo on one of the buildings.

It looked like this was once an Umbrella research facility.

"Look to the left," Bruce added, pointing.

They saw a metal guardrail not far from them—except now there was a large hole in it, with sparks still flickering around the edges.

It reminded everyone of Morpheus.

It looked like he had made it to the island, too.

Everyone reached the hole and, after passing through it, discovered an underground passage ahead.

"It looks like Morpheus is down there," Javier said.

Upon hearing this, Fong Ling took the lead and headed down.

She was determined to find Morpheus and stop him from launching the viral missiles.

Since Morpheus was here, this had to be where the missiles were hidden.

Seeing her descend, the rest of the group followed into what appeared to be a sewer tunnel.

It reminded Javier of Raccoon City—and of Ada.

He couldn't help but smile.

"What are you smiling about? You look like you're thinking something dirty."

Natasha looked at Javier and teased him.

Hearing her words, he looked at her.

The group continued through the sewer.

Inside, they were attacked by bio-organic weapons. After a fierce battle, they made it through.

"This appears to be a secret Umbrella research base. They probably abandoned it after the virus leaked," Javier said with certainty.

"This damn company is so irresponsible. What if the virus leaks somewhere else?" Bruce said angrily.

"Do you think Umbrella cares about other people's lives? Don't forget Raccoon City and Sheena Island."

After hearing Javier's words, Bruce went silent.

Seeing Bruce quiet down, the group kept moving through the sewers, eventually arriving inside the laboratory.

Once they entered, they were met by the sight of the lab—and the research team that had turned into zombies.

Javier was already familiar with scenes like this.

After casually taking out the zombies blocking their path, they kept going.

After being thrown into the sea, Morpheus had made his way to this base—after all, he had originally been in charge of it.

When he arrived at his office, he saw surveillance footage showing Javier and the others entering his facility.

"This is my territory. Now that you're here, don't even think about leaving."

Morpheus released all the bio-weapons trapped in the base, hoping they would eliminate Javier and his team.

As for Javier's strength—Morpheus touched the spot where Javier had punched him.

On his chest, the bone armor had cracked.

This showed just how powerful Javier's punch had been—and it terrified Morpheus.

Back in the lab, everyone was moving through the corridors when suddenly, the alarms went off throughout the base.

Red lights began flashing—an unmistakable warning.

"It must've been Morpheus," Bruce said.

There was no need to guess—aside from them, only Morpheus was here.

Now, they had no way back.

The exit was sealed by the alarm. They had no choice but to keep pushing forward—to find Morpheus.

As they advanced, every zombie in their path became cannon fodder.

They also encountered attacks from Hunters, Lickers, and other mutated creatures.

After overcoming many obstacles, they reached a large chamber.

As they entered, the door behind them shut.

Then, the front door slowly opened—and out came a massive monster.

It was extremely fat and moved slowly.

Everyone opened fire, but the giant creature didn't even flinch. It continued to advance.

"Move aside," Javier said, stepping forward with a rocket launcher.

"Where'd you find a rocket launcher?" Bruce asked, suspicious.

"I found it in the corner," Javier answered casually—though Bruce actually went to check the corner himself.

Javier fired the rocket, blasting a massive hole in the monster's body.

Even then, the creature wasn't dead—it let out a scream.

Javier fired again, this time hitting its head.

That finished it off.

As the monster fell, the back door reopened—and the front one no longer blocked their way.
