Chapter 10 - 7 YEARS IN THE FUTURE (2/3)

-MEANWHILE IN THE PAST-

Cyclops lay in the T-Jet's seat, strapped in securely as the vehicle hummed through the skies towards their destination. The gentle vibrations of the flight and the hum of the engines lulled him into a deep sleep. In his dream, he found himself in a realm bathed in soft, ethereal light. Floating before him was a mysterious young woman, her presence radiant and calming.

The woman held a Lantern of Spirits, its gentle glow illuminating the ember butterflies that fluttered around her.

Her eyes were kind, and she extended her hand towards Cyclops, beckoning him closer.

Woman of Light: (softly) Come, Cyclops. I have a gift for you. A child, who will bring hope and strength for our family. We shall meet in the future, when the time is right.

Cyclops felt an overwhelming sense of peace as he reached out to take her hand. Just as their fingers were about to touch, he heard a distant voice calling his name, pulling him back from the dream.

Robin: (urgent) CYCLOPS! Wake up! We're almost at the location of the first Mother Box!

Cyclops jolted awake, the dream fading rapidly as he found himself back in the T-Jet. He rubbed his eyes, trying to shake off the lingering sense of otherworldly tranquility. Robin was leaning over him, his expression serious but relieved to see his friend awake.

Cyclops: (groggy) Robin... I was dreaming...

Robin: (impatient) No time for dreams now, Cyclops. We're almost there. The first Mother Box is within reach, and we need to be ready.

Cyclops nodded, the weight of their mission quickly grounding him back in reality. He unfastened his seatbelt and stretched briefly to shake off the remnants of sleep.

Cyclops: (determined) Let's do this. We can't let Steppenwolf get his hands on those Mother Boxes.

Robin turned to Cyclops, updating him on their current situation.

Robin: (serious) Cyborg, Raven, and Beast Boy are heading to the Atlantic to retrieve the second Mother Box. Wonder Girl, Starfire, and Kid Flash went to Themyscira to secure the third.

Ethan, sitting nearby, looked between them with a mixture of anticipation and determination.

Ethan: (eager) What about me? What's my mission?

Cyclops glanced at Robin before addressing Ethan.

Cyclops: (firm) You stay with Robin. This is your first mission with us, and it's crucial we don't take unnecessary risks.

Ethan: (protesting) But I can help!

Robin: (raising his voice) We're here for the first Mother Box, Ethan. Trust us you'll have plenty of chances to prove yourself.

The T-Jet began to descend, and Cyclops peered out the window, recognizing the terrain below.

Cyclops: (grimacing) Oh fuck, I hate North Korea.

Robin began working the controls, readying the T-Jet for Cyclops' exit.

Cyclops: (to Ethan) Stay here and keep an eye on things with Robin. I'll handle this.

Ethan: (worried) Be careful, Cyclops.

Cyclops gave Ethan a reassuring nod before turning to Robin.

Cyclops: (determined) Open the cockpit.

With a press of a button, the cockpit hatch opened, and the wind rushed in. Cyclops took a deep breath and jumped out, free-falling through the sky. As he neared the ground, he unleashed a precise optic blast, slowing his descent and allowing him to land gracefully.

He immediately took cover, avoiding the gaze of patrolling North Korean soldiers as the T-Jet ascended back into the sky. Suddenly, alarms blared from the nearby military base.

Robin: (over the comms) Cyclops, they're targeting us with missiles. We're getting out of here. Be careful.

Cyclops: (whispering) Roger that. I'll be in touch.

hTe T-Jet flew away, Cyclops moved stealthily, avoiding detection while keeping his eyes peeled for the first Mother Box.

-BACK IN THE FUTURE-

The next day dawned with a faint glimmer of hope amidst the shadows of uncertainty that plagued their world. In the dimly lit bunker, Zack Summers had managed to catch a few hours of restless sleep in his chair, his thoughts drifting between dreams of battles fought and the weight of responsibility that rested on his shoulders.

The sudden voice of Wonder Woman broke through the haze of sleep, her authoritative tone cutting through the quiet of the morning.

Wonder Woman: (firmly) Cyclops, wake up. We need you suited up. There's no time to waste.

Zack stirred awake, blinking away the remnants of sleep as he tried to make sense of the urgency in Diana's voice. Wonder Woman stood before him, clad in her iconic armor, a beacon of strength and determination even in the subdued light of the bunker.

Zack: (rubbing his eyes) Wonder woman? What's going on?

Wonder Woman tossed a bundle towards him, and Zack caught it instinctively. As he unraveled the fabric, he realized it was his suit the one he had complained about just the night before.

Wonder Woman: (seriously) Darkseid's forces are on the move again. We've got reports of increased activity near the perimeter. We need you ready.

Zack nodded, the weight of their mission settling over him once more. He quickly began to change, the familiar routine of donning his suit grounding him in the midst of uncertainty.

Zack: (determined) I'm on it. Let's make sure they regret waking up today.

Wonder Woman nodded in approval, her expression resolute as she prepared herself for the coming battle.

Wonder Woman: (steadfastly) We'll push them back, Cyclops. Today, we fight with everything we have.

As Zack finished fastening his suit, he straightened up, his resolve mirrored in his steady gaze.

Zack: (firmly) For Ororo, for everyone we've lost, and for a future free from Darkseid's tyranny.

Cyclops and Wonder Woman stepped out of the bunker, their senses alert and weapons at the ready. The morning air was crisp with a hint of tension as they scanned their surroundings, expecting to find Parademons lurking in the shadows or hovering ominously in the skies above.

Cyclops: (frowning) This is strange. We've had reports of increased activity, but I'm not seeing any sign of Parademons.

Wonder Woman's brow furrowed in concern as she surveyed the deserted streets and crumbling buildings.

Wonder Woman: (muttering) It doesn't make sense. They're never this quiet, not unless...

Her voice trailed off, a troubling realization dawning on her.

Cyclops: (curiously) Not unless what, Wonder woman?

Wonder Woman's jaw tightened with resolve as she scanned the horizon, her eyes narrowing with suspicion.

Wonder Woman: (grimly) Unless they're gathering for something bigger. Darkseid doesn't usually keep his forces idle without a reason.

Cyclops nodded in agreement, his mind racing with the possibilities of what their enemy might be planning.

Cyclops: (thoughtfully) If they're not here, then where are they?

Wonder Woman: (steadfastly) We need to find out. Keep your guard up, Cyclops. This silence... it's unnerving.

The desolate streets of New Jersey stretched out as the aftermath of Darkseid's invasion had left the city eerily quiet, devoid of the usual chaos inflicted by parademons.

Cyclops: (surveying the area) It looks clear for now, Wonder Woman. No signs of hostiles.

Wonder Woman nodded, her gaze scanning the empty streets with a hint of caution.

Wonder Woman: (glancing) It's quiet. Almost too quiet.

Cyclops adjusted his visor, his senses on high alert. Before he could delve deeper into their strategy, Wonder Woman turned towards him with a playful smirk, her eyes gleaming mischievously.

Wonder Woman: (teasingly) Cyclops, you seem tense. Need me to help you relax?

Cyclops blinked, momentarily caught off guard by Wonder Woman's flirtatious demeanor. He cleared his throat, trying to maintain his composure.

Cyclops: (hesitantly) Wonderwoman, now's not the time for... distractions.

Wonder Woman stepped closer to him, her voice lowering as she addressed him by his first name.

Wonder Woman: (softly) Oh, come on, Cyclops. We've been through so much together. Let's enjoy a moment of peace while we can.

Cyclops felt a surge of heat rise to his cheeks as Wonder Woman's proximity and playful words unsettled him. He fumbled for his communicator, pretending to check for any potential threats.

Cyclops: (awkwardly) I should, uh, just make sure our coordinates are secure.

Wonder Woman placed a hand gently on his arm, her touch sending a shiver down his spine. She leaned in closer, her breath warm against his ear.

Wonder Woman: (seductively) Relax, cyclops. We make a good team, don't we?

Before Cyclops could respond, Wonder Woman closed the distance between them, capturing his lips in a sudden, passionate kiss. At first stunned, Cyclops hesitated, his mind racing as he struggled to process the rush of emotions and sensations.

The kiss was intense, a mix of desire and unspoken understanding amidst the ruins and silence of the devastated city. As they finally parted, Cyclops looked into Wonder Woman's eyes, his own filled with a mixture of confusion and undeniable attraction.

Cyclops: (breathlessly) Wonder woman.. I... we shouldn't...

Before Cyclops could respond more, Wonder Woman closed the distance between them, smashing her lips against his in a passionate kiss. Cyclops, taken aback by the intensity of her confession, responded in kind, his hands tangling in her hair as they sank to the ground, their kiss deepening in a rush of pent-up emotions and desire.

.

In the bunker below, Nightwing stirred from his slumber, blinking sleepily as he sat up, the others waking in confusion.

Dick: (rubbing his eyes) Anyone seen Zack or Diana?

Starfire and White Raven exchanged puzzled glances, shaking their heads as they looked around the dimly lit space.

Starfire: (concerned) They were here when we went to sleep.

Red Hood and Green Arrow joined the conversation, their expressions mirroring the growing unease.

Red Hood: (frowning) Where could they have gone?

Green Arrow, his aged features creased with worry, rose slowly from his bedroll, scanning the bunker for any sign of their missing comrades.

Green Arrow: (gruffly) We need to find them. They could be in trouble out there.

Ororo: (calling out softly) Has anyone seen Zack?

Nightwing, Starfire, White Raven, Red Hood, and the aged Green Arrow turned to Ororo, their expressions clouded with concern.

Dick: (shaking his head) He wasn't here when we woke up either.

Starfire exchanged a worried glance with White Raven, both at a loss for where Cyclops and Wonder Woman might have gone.

Starfire: (uncertainly) Maybe they went to check the perimeter?

White Raven's brow furrowed in thought as she considered the possibilities and just silent.

Red Hood, typically more blunt, shrugged his shoulders with a hint of frustration.

Red Hood: (gruffly) They could be anywhere. This city's a mess.

Green Arrow, his weathered face etched with concern, approached Ororo, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

Green Arrow: (softly) We'll find them, Ororo. They're strong. They'll be back.

Ororo nodded, trying to steady her nerves for the sake of their unborn child. She trusted in Zack's strength and Wonder Woman's resilience, but the uncertainty of their whereabouts gnawed at her.

Ororo: (steadily) I know they'll come back. They have to.

.

Back to Wonder Woman and Cyclops stood in the dimly lit confines of their makeshift shelter. The urgency of their mission hung heavy in the air, despite the brief respite they found in each other's arms. They exchanged a lingering look, a mix of lingering desire and unspoken understanding passing between them.

Cyclops gently brushed a strand of hair from Wonder Woman's face, his voice low but firm.

Cyclops: (softly) Wonder Soman, I think we need to move.

Wonder Woman nodded, her expression serious as she straightened her armor and adjusted her tiara. The reality of their situation settled in as they prepared to face the dangers awaiting them outside.

Wonder Woman: (quietly) You're right, Cyclops. We can't afford to stay here any longer.

With practiced efficiency, Cyclops retrieved his visor and adjusted it over his eyes, his movements betraying the weight of their shared intimacy. Wonder Woman fastened her gauntlets and checked her lasso, her mind focused on the task ahead despite the lingering warmth from their connection.

Cyclops and Wonder Woman emerged from the shelter. The absence of Parademons continued to unsettle them, their unease growing with each empty intersection and silent building.

Wonder Woman glanced over at Cyclops, a furrow of concern creasing her brow.

Wonder Woman: (quietly) Cyclops, we're not finding anything here. I'm going to scout ahead. We need to cover more ground.

Cyclops hesitated, his instincts urging caution in the face of the unknown.

Cyclops: (hesitantly) Wonder Woman, I don't think splitting up is a good idea. We should stick together, especially if this is some kind of trap.

Wonder Woman turned to face him, her expression serious yet determined.

Wonder Woman: (firmly) I understand your concern, Cyclops. But we can cover more ground this way. Trust me.

Cyclops sighed, knowing he couldn't argue with Wonder Woman's experience and strategic acumen. He nodded reluctantly, his voice tinged with worry.

Cyclops: (reluctantly) Alright, just... be careful, Wonder Woman. Don't take any unnecessary risks.

Wonder Woman gave him a reassuring smile, her confidence unwavering as she prepared to take to the skies.

Wonder Woman: (confidently) I'll be fine, Cyclops. I'll stay in touch. See you soon.

With that, Wonder Woman took off, her powerful wings carrying her effortlessly into the air. Cyclops watched her ascend, a mix of admiration and concern swirling within him.

Cyclops: (calling after her) Be careful, Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman disappeared into the distance, Cyclops took a deep breath, refocusing his attention on the task at hand. Despite his unease at their separation, he knew they needed to gather information quickly.

Cyclops felt a familiar surge of power within him the Phoenix Force stirring restlessly as if warning him of imminent danger.

Before he could fully grasp its message, his consciousness was thrust into a mindscape, a realm of ethereal energy and cosmic power.

Standing before him was the embodiment of the Phoenix Force, its majestic form shimmering with fiery energy. Its voice resonated in Cyclops's mind, urgent and commanding.

Phoenix Force: (echoing) Zack, heed my warning. There is danger in your path. Do not approach Wonder Woman.

Cyclops frowned, his determination unwavering despite the Phoenix Force's ominous caution.

Cyclops: (defiantly) I appreciate the concern, but Wonder Woman is a trusted ally. I won't turn away from her.

The Phoenix Force regarded him with a solemn intensity, its luminous eyes piercing through his resolve.

Phoenix Force: (firmly) You underestimate the peril, Zack. Her presence threatens your balance with the Force. Beware.

Before Cyclops could argue further, he was abruptly pulled back to reality, where chaos awaited. A horde of a thousand Parademons descended upon him, their grotesque forms swarming from every direction.

Cyclops gritted his teeth, his instincts kicking into overdrive as he leaped into action. With precision honed by years of combat experience, he unleashed his optic blasts, sliding back gracefully to evade their attacks while striking with deadly accuracy. Each blast found its mark, disintegrating Parademons in bursts of fiery energy.

As the battle intensified, Cyclops engaged in hand-to-hand combat, using his enhanced strength and agility to swiftly incapacitate his foes. He fought with unwavering determination, a cascade of optic blasts punctuating his movements as he danced through the chaos.

Cyclops: (gritting his teeth) Alright, that's it! That's enough!

With a surge of adrenaline and focused willpower, Cyclops unleashed his ultimate technique a reflective optic blast that ricocheted with blinding speed, obliterating the remaining Parademons in a dazzling display of power.

The battlefield fell silent, save for the crackling embers of defeated enemies. Cyclops stood amidst the wreckage, breathing heavily but triumphant. As he caught his breath, the warning of the Phoenix Force echoed in his thoughts, a lingering reminder of the cosmic forces at play.

Cyclops: (muttering to himself) Maybe I should've listened...

As the dust settled from the battle with the Parademons, Cyclops stood amidst the fallen foes, catching his breath and surveying the aftermath. Wonder Woman arrived at the scene, her concern evident as she approached him cautiously.

Wonder Woman: (gently) Cyclops, are you okay? You took care of them quickly.

Cyclops turned to face Wonder Woman, his expression tight with suspicion. He noticed something off about her demeanor, a slight unease beneath the surface.

Cyclops: (eyeing her warily)Wonder Woman, you're sweating. What's going on?

Before he could finish his sentence, Wonder Woman lunged at him with surprising speed. Instinct kicked in as Cyclops narrowly dodged her attack, his mind racing to understand what was happening.

Cyclops: (sharply) Wonder Woman, what's gotten into you?

The fake Wonder Woman, now revealed as Grail, smirked wickedly as she dodged Cyclops' retaliatory optic blast with ease. Her laughter echoed through the air, sending chills down Cyclops' spine.

Grail: (mocking) Wonder Woman and your friend Raven are already dead, thanks to my father. And now, your precious wife and friends are in danger.

Cyclops' heart sank as the realization hit him like a physical blow. His wife, Ororo, and his friend were in the bunker, vulnerable and unaware of the danger closing in on them.

Cyclops: (cursing under his breath) Oh, fuck...

With renewed determination, Cyclops unleashed a series of optic blasts, each one aimed with precision at Grail. The daughter of Darkseid danced effortlessly around the attacks, her laughter mocking his futile efforts.

Grail: (tauntingly) Oh, but I already have. It's only a matter of time before I finish what I started.

Cyclops gritted his teeth, his mind racing with plans to protect those he loved. As Grail continued to toy with him, he knew every second counted. With a final burst of energy, he managed to create enough distance between them to escape.

Cyclops: (urgently) I have to get back to the bunker!

Before he could take another step, Grail's mocking voice cut through the air, halting him in his tracks.

Grail: (tauntingly) Going somewhere, boy? Sorry, but you'll have to get through me first.

She lunged at him with blinding speed, her sword slashing through the air with deadly precision. Cyclops reacted on instinct, dodging her strike narrowly and spinning around to face her. Without hesitation, he unleashed a powerful optic blast towards Grail, aiming to incapacitate her and buy himself precious moments to escape.

Cyclops: (grimly) I don't have time for this.

The blast tore through the air with searing intensity, but Grail anticipated the attack. With supernatural agility, she twisted and dodged, the energy narrowly missing her as she smirked at Cyclops.

Grail: (mockingly) Is that all you've got, hero?

Cyclops gritted his teeth, frustration mounting as he realized Grail was more formidable than he had anticipated. He couldn't afford to be distracted by her taunts. His thoughts raced back to Ororo and their unborn child, to Dick and the others in the bunker who were depending on him.

Cyclops: (steadfastly) I have to get back to the bunker. Nothing's going to stop me.

He gathered his focus, ready to press on despite the formidable adversary standing in his way. Grail's laughter echoed around them, her sword gleaming ominously in the dim light of the ruined city.

Grail: (menacingly) Then let's see you try.

Grail's grip tightened around Cyclops' throat, her malevolent intent palpable, Cyclops struggled against her hold, his vision blurring at the edges as he fought for breath. Her whispered threats cut through him like knives, each word a chilling reminder of the stakes at hand.

Grail: (coldly) My father needs the Phoenix Force, Zack. And he will have it. Your wife, your unborn child they will die, unless...

Cyclops' eyes widened with fury and desperation as Grail's words pierced through him. In that moment of profound anguish and fear for his family, something deep within him snapped.

Cyclops: (in a calm, resolute tone) I remember this feeling. The first invasion, the darkness closing in. But I'm not the same man you faced then.

A surge of power erupted from within Cyclops, the Phoenix Force State bursting forth in a blinding cascade of fiery energy. His form illuminated with an otherworldly glow, his eyes aglow with the intensity of a star.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops (voice resonant with power) I am Phoenix Cyclops. I've returned with this power, and I am eternal. You cannot kill me, Grail. My desire to protect my family will always bring me back.

Grail recoiled in terror, her confidence shattered as she realized the grave mistake she had made. She had awakened a force beyond her understanding, a force that now stood before her with righteous fury.

Grail: (panicked) No! This isn't possible!

His eyes blazed with cosmic fire as he seized Grail's wrist, his grip unyielding despite her struggles.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (fiercely) Listen to me. You can't threaten my family and expect to walk away.

With a gesture of his hand, Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops unleashed a torrent of searing energy, engulfing Grail in flames that licked at her form with merciless intensity. Her screams echoed through the air as her flesh disintegrated, consumed by the overwhelming power of the Phoenix Force.

Grail's body turned to ash, Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops stood amidst the fading embers, his expression haunted by the weight of what he had been forced to do. The Phoenix Force pulsed within him, a reminder of the unstoppable force he had become.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (solemnly) May your soul find peace in the void, Grail. But know this... I will protect my family and friends at any cost.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops soared through the skies, his form enveloped in a blazing aura of cosmic power as he raced back to Brooklyn. The journey felt like an eternity, each passing moment filled with dread and anticipation of what he might find upon his return.

As he descended towards what remained of the bunker, devastation struck him like a physical blow. The once-secure refuge now lay in ruins, debris scattered across the scorched earth. His heart pounded in his chest as he saw Ororo kneeling amidst the rubble, tears streaming down her face.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops landed softly beside her, his fiery gaze softened with concern and sorrow.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (gently) Ororo... what happened here?

Ororo looked up at him, her eyes filled with anguish and despair. She struggled to find the words, her voice thick with grief.

Ororo: (choking on her words) Zack... everyone... they're gone.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops knelt beside her, a deep ache settling in his chest as he listened to her trembling voice.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (quietly) White Raven... she betrayed us, didn't she?

Ororo nodded, her tears flowing freely as she recounted the betrayal that had shattered their sanctuary.

Ororo: (brokenly) She... she let them in. They... they slaughtered everyone. I couldn't... I couldn't save them, Zack.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops closed his eyes briefly, the weight of loss and betrayal heavy upon him. He reached out to comfort Ororo, but she pulled away, her grief overwhelming.

Ororo: (sobbing) Dick... he tried to fight them off. But there were too many... he...

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops clenched his fists in anguish, his voice a whisper of pain and regret.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (mournfully) Nightwing... my best friend...

He bowed his head, mourning the loss of his comrade and friend. The bunker had been their sanctuary, a place of safety amidst the chaos. Now, it lay in ruins, a reminder of the cost of their war against Darkseid.

He looked around at the devastation, feeling the overwhelming burden of responsibility settle into his heart. The memories of battles fought and lost flooded his mind, each one a reminder of his perceived failures.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (voice breaking) If only I had used the Phoenix Force seven years ago... maybe the invasion would never have happened.

Ororo looked up at him, her tear-streaked face etched with concern.

Ororo: (softly) Zack, it's not your fault. You did everything you could.

But Cyclops couldn't shake the guilt that gnawed at him. He saw the faces of those he had failed to save, the comrades who had fallen, and the loved ones lost.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (bitterly) My adopted mother, Jerry the landshark, all those people... I couldn't save them. And now our last comrade all of our friends... they're gone because I wasn't strong enough.

Ororo reached out, placing a hand on his cheek, trying to offer comfort.

Ororo: (gently) Zack, you can't blame yourself for everything. We all fought as hard as we could.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (anguished) But it wasn't enough, Ororo. I wasn't enough. I had the power of the Phoenix, and I didn't use it. If I had just embraced it sooner, maybe none of this would have happened.

Ororo shook her head, her eyes filled with compassion and sorrow.

Ororo: (firmly) You did what you thought was right. We all did. We made our choices, and we fought for what we believed in. This isn't all on you.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops looked down, tears welling in his eyes. The burden of his self-blame felt unbearable, a crushing weight on his soul.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (whispering) I should have been stronger. I should have saved them.

Ororo pulled him into a tight embrace, her voice a soothing balm to his wounded heart.

Ororo: (softly) We can't change the past, Zack. We can only move forward and honor their memory by continuing to fight for what they believed in.

He held her close, drawing strength from her presence. The pain of their losses was still raw, but he knew that he couldn't let his guilt consume him. He had to keep fighting, not just for those who had fallen, but for the future they had all sacrificed so much to protect.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (resolved) You're right, Ororo. We can't let their sacrifices be in vain. We'll keep fighting. For them, and for our future.

Ororo buried her face in her hands, her sobs echoing through the silence of destruction. Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops held her close, his heart heavy with sorrow and determination.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (softly) I'll mak-

Before he can end his say the air grew tense as the ground began to shake beneath them, signaling the arrival of a new threat. Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops and Ororo turned to see Steppenwolf emerging from the shadows, his imposing figure towering over the desolate landscape. His eyes burned with rage and vengeance, his presence exuding an aura of menace.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (glared) Who the Fuck are You!

Steppenwolf: (voice booming) So, you are the ones responsible for Grail demise. You have made a grave mistake. I will kill you both and avenge Darkseid's daughter. Your defiance ends here!

Steppenwolf's voice reverberated through the air, his speech dripping with malice as he raised his mighty axe. He began to monologue, his words filled with promises of destruction and vengeance.

Steppenwolf: (continuing his speech) You will pay for what you have done. Your resistance is futile. Darkseid's will is absolute, and I am his instrument of destruction. I will!

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops turned to Ororo, his expression calm despite the looming threat.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (dryly) Should I just burn him now?

Ororo, her face still streaked with tears but her resolve unwavering, nodded in agreement.

Ororo: (firmly) Yes, Zack. Burn him.

Without another word, Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops turned his attention back to Steppenwolf. His eyes ignited with the power of the Phoenix Force, the fiery aura around him intensifying. Steppenwolf, still in the midst of his grandiose speech, barely had time to react as Cyclops unleashed a torrent of searing energy.

Steppenwolf: (shocked) What the fu-?

The flames of the Phoenix Force engulfed Steppenwolf in an instant, cutting off his speech as his body was consumed by the intense heat. His screams of agony echoed through the air, but Cyclops remained unmoved, his expression one of unwavering determination.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (calmly) Welp... that was ez? This is for everyone we've lost.

Steppenwolf's form disintegrated into ash, his threats and vengeance reduced to nothing in the face of Cyclops' power. The air crackled with residual energy as the last remnants of Steppenwolf were carried away by the wind.

Ororo watched the scene with a mixture of relief and sorrow. She stepped closer to Cyclops, placing a hand on his arm.

Ororo: (softly) Thank you, Zack.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops held her close, his heart heavy with sorrow and determination.

Phoenix Enhanced Cyclops: (softly) I'll make him pay for this.

.

Darkseid, the tyrannical ruler of Apokolips, sat on his throne, his red eyes glowing with an intense fury.

Darkseid's voice boomed through the throne room, filled with an unyielding rage as he received news of Steppenwolf's death and his daughter's demise at the hands of a human imbued with the Phoenix Force. His powerful hands gripped the armrests of his throne, crushing the metal beneath his fingers.

Darkseid: (furious) Steppenwolf, my daughter... defeated by a filthy human! A human with the Phoenix Force, no less!

His minions cowered in fear, the sheer force of his anger radiating through the room. The loss of his daughter and Steppenwolf was a personal affront, a challenge to his absolute authority.

Darkseid: (seething) If they both failed and died, then fine... I'll do it myself.

He rose from his throne, his towering figure casting a long shadow over the quivering underlings. His eyes blazed with the promise of retribution, the Omega Effect sparking ominously.

Darkseid: (menacingly) The Phoenix Force will be mine, and Earth will fall under my dominion. No one defies Darkseid and lives.

With a sweeping motion of his hand, Darkseid signaled for his forces to prepare. The ground beneath him rumbled as his war machines were readied, and the Parademons screeched in anticipation.

Darkseid: (coldly) Prepare the armada. We will bring this human to his knees, and I will crush the Phoenix Force with my own hands.

The throne room buzzed with activity as his loyal servants hurried to carry out his orders. Darkseid's resolve was unshakable, his mind set on the destruction of those who dared to challenge him. His gaze shifted to the distant planet of Earth, a predatory glint in his eyes.

Darkseid: (quietly to himself) You have only delayed the inevitable, human. Your world will burn, and I will see to it personally.
