Chapter 255: The Storm Wolf Pack
"Why didn't you invite my 'Moon Spirit' to help deal with the Storm Wolf pack? Do you look down on us girls?" Xiao Yu walked up to Mo Yu, her long, shapely legs gleaming enticingly under the sunlight, her face filled with a hint of resentment.
As Mo Yu's fiancée, she didn't want to be just a weak woman standing behind a man. After receiving cultivation techniques and Dou Skills from Mo Yu, she had worked hard to improve herself.
In just a year since entering the inner academy, Xiao Yu had grown to the point where she could be considered above average, even among the many geniuses in the academy. Given a little more time, she might even challenge the Strong Ranking.
For a girl who came from a small family in Wu Tan City, this was an enormous leap forward.
However, Mo Yu hadn't even informed her about the operation to attack the Storm Wolf pack. She only found out from the leader of her faction. This left Xiao Yu feeling a little hurt and disappointed.
Noticing the expression on Xiao Yu's face, Mo Yu froze for a moment, then smiled gently as he patted her head.
"The strength of Moon Spirit is well-known in the inner academy. How could I possibly underestimate you? But, Yu'er, the Storm Wolf pack is not easy to deal with. Even I can't guarantee everyone's safety. If anything unexpected happened and the members of Moon Spirit got hurt, I'd be failing your trust."
"Junior Mo Yu, you're mistaken." A cool voice chimed in from the side—it was Han Yue, who said, "While the Storm Wolf pack is strong, since you're confident enough to lead an attack, you must have a plan. And although the members of Moon Spirit are all women, we're not just decorative. We can handle regular Storm Wolves."
"Besides, Moon Spirit is not helping out just because of Yu'er. When Mo Bang (Mo Clan) sold Cold Jade Pearls at a discount to us, Moon Spirit was deeply grateful. Now that Mo Bang needs assistance, how could we possibly stand by and do nothing? This isn't just Yu'er's wish—it's what all of Moon Spirit feels."
"That's right, Sister Han Yue is right! We may be women, but we know how to repay kindness. If Mo Bang needs help, we're duty-bound to assist!"
"Exactly! Plus, the wife of the leader of Mo Bang is a member of Moon Spirit. It doesn't make sense not to inform us about such an important matter."
"Hehe, I didn't expect so many handsome guys in Mo Bang. I wonder, after dealing with the Storm Wolf pack, can Leader Mo Yu introduce us to a few?"
The cheerful and lively voices of Moon Spirit's beautiful members rang out, making it clear that helping Mo Bang was indeed the wish of everyone in Moon Spirit, not just Xiao Yu or Han Yue.
Seeing this, Mo Yu was a little surprised. He hadn't expected that the small gesture of offering Moon Spirit a discount on Cold Jade Pearls would earn such goodwill in return.
Of course, there was another benefit Mo Yu hadn't foreseen.
After the arrival of Moon Spirit, the morale of Mo Bang skyrocketed. After all, who wouldn't be motivated by the presence of such beautiful women, especially when many of them were usually out of reach?
Now that these 'goddesses' were showing special interest in Mo Bang, the men were filled with a sense of pride. Being noticed by these admired women and having the opportunity to interact with them increased their loyalty to Mo Bang and strengthened their admiration for Mo Yu.
Some students, who had previously shown little interest in joining any faction, began to reconsider. The idea of winning the heart of one of these beauties made joining Mo Bang seem like a very appealing option.
Seeing Moon Spirit members volunteering, Mo Yu couldn't help but smile bitterly and shake his head. He had no choice but to accept their help.
After all, it would be rude to decline their enthusiasm, and besides, Moon Spirit, despite being an all-female faction, was quite powerful. Aside from Han Yue, a six-star Dou Ling (Fighting Spirit), the faction boasted three other Dou Ling fighters, and the remaining twenty members were mostly at the Da Dou Shi (Great Fighter) level. Their strength was almost on par with the former Bai Clan.
Moreover, Mo Yu noticed that with the addition of these skilled and attractive women, Mo Bang's morale had received a significant boost—an unexpected but welcome benefit.
"Well, in that case, I'll be relying on Senior Han Yue and the members of Moon Spirit," Mo Yu said with a smile as he held Xiao Yu's soft, smooth hand.
"Long live the boss!" Before Han Yue or the other Moon Spirit members could respond, the male members of Mo Bang erupted in cheers.
In the animal kingdom, males often show off their strength in front of females, and it seemed humans were no different.
Shaking his head, Mo Yu then addressed the entire Mo Bang, "Moon Spirit is our esteemed guest. During the battle, make sure to look out for them."
"Don't worry, boss! We won't let those Storm Wolves lay a paw on the sisters of Moon Spirit!" The members of Mo Bang beat their chests like animals, howling with enthusiasm.
Seeing their excitement, Mo Yu rolled his eyes. Their enthusiasm was even greater than when they received new weapons.
With morale running high, the forces of Mo Bang, Pan Gate, and Moon Spirit swiftly united, creating a powerful presence in the square.
The combined forces numbered about 150 people, representing roughly one-sixth of the inner academy's student body. Among them were more than ten Dou Ling fighters and over a hundred Da Dou Shi experts.
If this force were placed in the Jia Ma Empire, it could rival even the three major clans. In terms of potential, they might even surpass the Yun Lan Sect.
After all, each member was a genius from all corners of the Dou Qi Continent, full of limitless potential.
In the vast deep mountains, the lush greenery stretched as far as the eye could see, like an endless ocean of green. As the wind swept through the forest, it created waves of rustling leaves, forming a massive and awe-inspiring sight.
Suddenly, the sound of wind being torn apart echoed through the air. A shadow flashed across the sky, its wings flapping gently as the figure hovered in mid-air. The young man glanced down at the endless sea of trees below him and was momentarily stunned. He hadn't expected the forest outside the inner academy to be this vast. In a way, it was even more expansive than the Magic Beast Mountain Range that spanned the Jia Ma Empire.
Surveying his surroundings, Mo Yu heard the roars of high-tier magical beasts coming from the eastern part of the forest. His brows furrowed slightly, and he pointed to the west with his right hand.
Seeing Mo Yu's gesture, a tall and thin member of Mo Bang nodded from the forest below and quickly relayed the correct route to the main group.
With that, Mo Yu breathed a sigh of relief. The inner academy's deep mountains were indeed a place that even elders rarely ventured into, teeming as they were with high-tier magical beasts.
In just half a day, Mo Yu had sensed the presence of two sixth-tier magical beasts, and as for fifth-tier ones, there were at least five or six.
Thankfully, Mo Yu's soul power was incredibly strong now, allowing him to sense these powerful beasts in advance and avoid them.
Otherwise, if they accidentally wandered into a powerful beast's territory, even with the combined forces of the three factions, they would suffer heavy losses.
Mo Yu was determined to make sure that didn't happen.
Pan Gate and Moon Spirit had come to help out of trust in him, so Mo Yu needed to ensure everyone returned to the academy safely.
So along the way, Mo Yu acted like a radar, carefully leading the group around any dangerous beasts.
In the quiet forest, the large group moved cautiously, with alert eyes scanning the dark shadows among the trees. Hands gripped weapons tightly, ready to react to any sudden threat.
Although this was the first time the three factions had worked together, being made up of geniuses from all over, they maintained a basic level of coordination. With just a glance, they could exchange signals representing danger or safety.
"Boss, you're here!"
As they marched quietly, someone glanced up and spotted a silver figure in the air. The moment they saw him, they excitedly called out.
"Mm, stay alert and be careful," Mo Yu replied, patting the shoulder of the Mo Bang member as he landed and retracted his Ziyun Wings with a smile.
"Yes, boss!" The Mo Bang member responded, his face full of excitement.
After offering some encouragement, Mo Yu made his way to the center of the group, where Xiao Yan, his cousin, was standing with a serious expression.
"Cousin Xiao Yan, how are the wounded holding up?" Mo Yu asked.
Before entering the deep mountains, everything had been peaceful. However, shortly after they ventured in, a small-scale magical beast attack had proven just how dangerous the area was.
The attackers had been a group of more than ten third-tier magical beasts known as Redfire Centipedes. These fire-element creatures were common in the deep mountains and carried a venomous flame within them. If someone was poisoned and not treated within an hour, the flame would burn their blood from within, leading to death.
Hiding in the treetops, the Redfire Centipedes had struck like lightning, injecting their poison into a few unsuspecting students. Within moments, those students, though quite strong, were rolling on the ground in agony, burning with fever.
Enraged by the attack, the group quickly retaliated, and within moments, the ten Redfire Centipedes were beaten to death.
The poisoned students were immediately taken to the rear of the group, where Xiao Yan personally helped to purge the poison from their bodies.
Mo Yu was immensely grateful. While he could have removed the poison himself, he was also responsible for leading the group and keeping an eye out for magical beasts. He couldn't do everything at once.
Xiao Yan and Pan Gate's help had lifted a huge burden from Mo Yu, allowing him to focus on the task at hand.
"There's no need to thank me, Cousin Mo Yu. It's our responsibility as Pan Gate to help," Xiao Yan said with a smile. Having grown up together, Xiao Yan had long considered Mo Yu to be family.
Now that Mo Yu needed help, Xiao Yan was more than happy to do everything he could.
Hearing this, Mo Yu smiled but didn't say any more words of thanks.
To them, they were not only family but also close comrades, allies who fought side by side, and perhaps even rivals in some ways. But no matter what, there was an unspoken bond between them.
After the Redfire Centipede attack, the group became even more cautious. However, in a place teeming with magical beasts, it was impossible to avoid every single one.
The group hadn't walked more than 500 meters when they were attacked by three more waves of magical beasts. Fortunately, Mo Bang was quite powerful, and with the help of their Swift Shadow Boots and Guardian Armor, they managed to fend off all three attacks with only a few members suffering minor injuries.
It took almost half a day of wandering through the mountain range before Mo Yu finally found the lair of the Storm Wolf pack, as described by Ziyan.
The lair was located in a narrow gap between two mountains. Perhaps because the mountains were so steep, the wind here was unusually strong. The deeper they went, the stronger the wind became, and by the time they reached the center, it was powerful enough to nearly tear their clothes off.
As Mo Yu and the group arrived, a deafening howl, like a clap of thunder, erupted from the depths of the valley.
"Awoo…"
"Awoo…"
"Awoo…"
"What a powerful howl… Is that the Storm Wolf pack? Just from the sound, there must be at least ten of them," Lin Yan, standing at the front of the group, said in surprise, momentarily stunned by the sudden howling.
"Yes, those are Storm Wolves. The howling you hear is likely from the wolves assigned to guard the pack. They've detected our presence and are warning their kin of an approaching enemy," Han Yue said, her face slightly tense.
"Heh, what's there to fear? Since Boss Mo Yu has a plan to deal with the Wolf King, leave the rest to us. I'll lead the charge, and you all just follow behind," Qian Mo said with a hearty laugh, shaking the fat on his body as it quivered in the strong wind.
Seeing Qian Mo's comical appearance, Xun'er covered her mouth and giggled. "I wonder how Cousin Mo Yu managed to recruit two top ten Strong Ranking students to help."
"Not just Lin Yan and Qian Mo. Look at Mo Bang's overall strength. All the squad leaders are Dou Ling experts, and even the ordinary members are Da Dou Shi. In just a few months, Cousin Mo Yu has built a foundation that's several times larger than the Xiao Clan. If Father and Grandpa Mo knew, they'd be very proud," Xiao Yan said, a hint of sadness in his voice.
Seeing this, Xun'er gently bit her lip but said nothing more. Instead, she simply held Xiao Yan's hand.
At the front of the group, Mo Yu had no time to dwell on the thoughts of those behind him. His silver eyes focused intently as the howling continued to echo from the valley.
In the pitch-black depths of the valley, bright lights suddenly flickered on, and with them came eerie, foreboding auras, as if something terrifying was awakening.
As the lights drew nearer, large, ferocious Storm Wolves, their mouths gaping wide, came into view. Only then did Mo Yu realize that the "lights" were actually the cunning, glowing eyes of the Storm Wolves.
When he saw the countless Storm Wolves, numbering in the hundreds, spread across the valley, Mo Yu couldn't help but murmur softly to himself.
"So… this is the Storm Wolf pack's territory."
