"Hokage-sama, Uchiha Mikoto contacted Uzumaki Naruto privately. The Anbu present tried to intervene but were stopped by Uchiha Fugaku." The Anbu ninja rushed into the Hokage's office, reporting urgently.
"Uchiha Mikoto contacted Uzumaki Naruto privately, and Uchiha Fugaku was also there?!" The Third Hokage's face darkened, his expression turning furious. Uzumaki Naruto was the Jinchūriki, his most critical asset, and he would not allow anyone to approach him, least of all the Uchiha clan. Now, Uchiha Mikoto and Uchiha Fugaku had made contact with Naruto, blatantly defying his restrictions, and that completely enraged him.
"Have Gin lead a team to stop them and bring Uchiha Fugaku to the Hokage Building immediately." His order was swiftly relayed to the Anbu base under the Hokage Building, reaching the Anbu Commander Gin, who was on standby. Without delay, Gin assembled several teams of elite Anbu and rushed to the park.
When they arrived, they immediately noticed three Anbu standing motionless, trapped in a genjutsu. Near them stood Uchiha Fugaku. "Release them—" The other Anbu quickly moved to dispel the genjutsu, bringing their comrades back to their senses. Gin turned his sharp gaze to Uchiha Fugaku, his presence exuding caution and readiness for combat. "Patriarch Fugaku, the Hokage has ordered that no one is allowed to contact Uzumaki Naruto privately!"
"My wife was a close friend of Uzumaki Kushina. Due to external pressures over the years, she was forced to ignore the orphan of her dearest friend. She has always felt deeply guilty," Uchiha Fugaku sighed. "She merely wanted to see the child of her late friend. There was no other intention."
Gin remained silent for a moment before replying. "I understand the feelings of Patriarch Fugaku and Lady Mikoto, but the Hokage has given clear orders. Uzumaki Naruto's status is special. No one is allowed to approach him."
"Are the orders of the Third Hokage necessarily correct?" Uchiha Fugaku's gaze bore into Gin's.
"Patriarch Fugaku, you've spoken out of turn." Gin's voice lowered, carrying a hint of warning.
"Your father, Hatake Sakumo, abandoned a mission to save his comrades. He broke the rules and was condemned by the villagers, leading to his tragic suicide. And yet, it seems you are now on a completely different path from him." Uchiha Fugaku sighed.
With silver hair and a high position in the Anbu, how could he not guess the identity of the person in front of him.
The person in front of me must be Hatake Kakashi.
There was a flicker of emotion in Kakashi's eyes. Though hidden behind his mask, his breath hitched ever so slightly. He inhaled deeply, regaining his composure before replying, "I never thought my father's actions were wrong."
"But what you are doing now contradicts his beliefs," Uchiha Fugaku said with a knowing smirk, exposing the hypocrisy Kakashi had been denying all these years.
"Over the years, Uzumaki Naruto has been called a 'fox demon' and bullied throughout the village. As his father's most trusted disciple, you've seen everything. Yet, because of the Third Hokage's orders, you've chosen to ignore it."
His voice grew heavier. "You claim to respect your father's decision, but in reality, you are denying it."
Kakashi's hands clenched into fists beneath his cloak. Uchiha Fugaku's words struck at something deep within him—something he had buried long ago.
The loss of his father, the suffering of Naruto, and the blind loyalty he had forced upon himself… It was as if Fugaku had ripped open a wound he had tried to forget.
"Chief Fugaku, my father's situation was different from what is happening now," Kakashi forced out, trying to suppress the storm raging inside him. "Please ask Lady Mikoto to cease contact with Uzumaki Naruto. Otherwise, we will be forced to take action."
"I understand." Uchiha Fugaku knew it was pointless to escalate the situation further. If a battle broke out here, things would become troublesome. He turned to look at Uchiha Mikoto. She had already noticed the tense standoff. Reluctantly, she bid farewell to Uzumaki Naruto and walked toward them, a trace of guilt and worry on her face.
She knew this action would bring trouble upon Fugaku and the Uchiha clan. But in the end, she had been unable to hold back—she had needed to see Naruto, if only once.
Rest assured, Uchiha Fugaku smiled at her, silently reassuring her that everything was under control.
Seeing Mikoto withdraw from the interaction, Kakashi felt a weight lift from his shoulders. He didn't want to fight Uchiha Fugaku. The Hatake clan and the Uchiha clan now had a stable relationship, and more than that, he didn't want to stand against the very people who had done what he had long wished to do but never dared.
He looked at Fugaku. "Hokage-sama has ordered you to report to the Hokage Building."
"Fugaku..." Uchiha Mikoto's voice trembled slightly with concern.
"Don't worry, it's just a simple visit to the Hokage Building," Fugaku reassured her with a small smile.
Seeing the confidence in his expression, Mikoto felt slightly relieved. If he was this calm, it meant he had already thought things through.
"Take Sasuke home first. I'll be back soon," Fugaku instructed her before turning to Kakashi. With a brief nod, he began walking toward the Hokage Building.
Kakashi observed him for a moment before turning back to his team. He left behind a few Anbu to continue monitoring Uzumaki Naruto, then led the rest of his team back toward the Hokage Building.
This encounter had shaken something deep within him.
Perhaps… it was time for him to leave the Anbu.
He had dedicated years of his life to serving under the Third Hokage, but the more he saw, the more it became clear—Hiruzen Sarutobi had turned a blind eye to the pain of others.
His father, Hatake Sakumo, had been destroyed by the very system Hiruzen had refused to challenge. And Naruto, the son of his beloved sensei, had been cast aside like a mere tool, all because of the Hokage's orders.
For years, Kakashi had convinced himself to remain loyal. To follow orders. To ignore what he felt in favor of what he was told.
But today, Uchiha Fugaku's words had ignited something within him—a flame of resentment he had tried for so long to smother.
