At our table, Odin shakes his head, his one eye glistening with pride, and Thor lifts Mjollnir in triumph. They had to know Loki had been selected as the emcee, but they both kept that close to their chests.
Loki spreads his hands, illuminated by what look like klieg lights. "Ladies and lords, gods and goddesses and everyone else in the Celestial Realms, it looks like everybody who is anybody is here tonight. But that does not explain letting in Ares."
The Olympian God of War scoffs from the table next to us.
Loki continues, "I mean ... isn't Ares just a little busy at the moment with all the wars going on? More so than in the past. What is he doing? Delegating all the death and destruction?"
A ripple of laughter. Loki is obviously roasting several of the guests, and since it's LOKI, I'm sure there is going to be some divine pearl-clutching in the next few minutes.
