Chapter 41 - School life

A huff of air escaped Excel mouth as he sigh, watching at the home room teacher began to take attendance calling out the name of the students with them answering present upon hearing their name called. Excel then turned to his side, seeing the empty sit next to him as heard the teacher call out "Alana", with no one responding.

The teacher spotting the empty sit let out a sigh as he marked Alana absent once more before continuing to the next student.

"Excel", he called out.

"Present", Excel replied.

Then, when the teaching was done with the student's attendance, began the lesson. Excel managed to stay awake during the class and took few notes, having learned to maintain focus and pay attention during class over the years, though the slow pace of the class still felt like agony to him, he could at the very least fight the urge to yawn during them, the he still struggled with math, physics, calculus, and basically any subject that had to any form of complex math or equation, and his grades during those subjects would have sunk if it wasn't for the fact that he had a little help.

The bell soon rung and all the students rushed out of the class and headed for their next class for the second period, all except Excel, managed to slip past everyone else and made his way, not to the class but to the roof of the school where he knew a certain someone was.

"Damn it", he heard her exclaim as she continued scribbling down on her journal seated on floor.

"Okay what if I…" she continued scribbling down.

"Damn it, it still won't work", she spoke out in frustration before crossing off what she just wrote down.

Excel then sneaked to her, catching a glance on what she scribbling down, finding only a few cancel math equations and symbols he didn't quite understand, with only thing he was able to fully understand were the words, "Project Assimilation".

Alana jolted up on her feet upon hearing Excel's voice.

"WHAT THE HELL EXCEL, WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU THINKING SNEAKING UP ON ME LIKE THAT!!!!!"Alana yelled at the top of her lungs while guarding her journal to her chest, so loud that Excel could have sworn he ruptured an eardrum.

"Uhmm…sorry", Excel while cleaning his ear in an attempt to stop the ringing in his ear, wondering why on earth she was so spooked.

Alana, after taking a few moments to ease her nerves, let out a breath before saying, "What do you want Excel, we agreed that I can only tutor you after school".

"You missed first period", said Excel.

"Oh, is that all", Alana spoke nonchalantly before sitting back down on the ground and continuing writing on her journal, seemingly unfazed by the fact that she had just missed first period.

"Did you hear me, you missed first period and you'll probably miss second period if you don't…are you even listening to me", Excel spoke with an infuriated look on his face upon noticing Alana wasn't even paying attention to anything he was saying.

"Hmmm, if I carried the four and account for…" Alana train was thought was shattered by Excel yelling "ALANA WE NEED TO GET TO CLASS NOW!!!"

Alana then let out a huff of air before turning him with annoyed and irritated look on her face.

"No offense Excel but I kinda already know basically everything their going to teach in the school. I've got an IQ greater than everyone in this school that includes the teachers, I don't really need to attend classes and my time is better spent doing more important…" Alana was cut by Excel glaring at her, exuding a fearsome aura then sent chills down her spine.

"If I have to go to class so do you", he spoke with a chill smile on his face before grabbing hold of Alana's arm and basically dragged her to the class room for their second period.

Alana now seated on her desk with a look of annoyance and frustration on her face glaring daggers on Excel was just flashed at smile back at her upon seeing the miserable state she was in. Alana hadn't changed that much apart from the fact that she could actually keep her head up during class, her wasn't a total any more, and she had grown quite a lot during the passing years but apart from that Alana hadn't really changed, she was still the same weirdo he couldn't quite wrap his head around.

Alana stuck out her tongue to Excel like a four year old, causing Exelirus to just let out a tired sigh before turning to the teacher as he taught the lesson.

"Now does anybody know why the year 2000 was so significant in history", the teacher asked.

Student the raised their hand.

"Yes Mark", the teacher spoke upon seeing the students hand up.

The student then got up from their sit and answered, "It was during that time that the first heroes began to appear".

"Excellent, you're correct, you may take your sit Mark", the student then sat back down while the teacher continued the lesson.

"The era before the 2000s was one of the bleakest of days in humanities history. After the emergence of demihumans, aliens, and special individuals with incredible powers and abilities, the entire world seemed to spiral out of control with many of the super powered individual their power less than virtuous. The era of villainy was born as evil demihumans, sinister aliens, and a whole myriad super powered individual seeking nothing more than to fill their pockets or mindless destruction. The early super villains began their reign of terror and destruction across the world, and for a time, the world seemed bleak and hopeless but all that changed when heroes like the Steel Angel, Hercula, and even Hilltop's very own speedster", said the teacher.

The students, especially Excel, paid attention during the lesson, finding topic about how heroes emerged during the bleakest and darkest time humanity had ever had to face very interest, with the only exception being Alana who just roll her eyes and seemingly scoff upon seeing how every even Excel, who she knew hated school almost as much as her being interested in a history lesson about heroes. It almost seemed as though she was annoyed and irritated by the story of the heroes, but that couldn't be the case, everyone loved heroes, right?

"And, like the cliché in every epic tale, the heroes came fought villain, and saved the day. Any questions", said the teacher.

Then, to the shock of everyone in class, including the teacher, Alana raised her hand.

"I have a question", she got up.

"The way you phrased the tale, you made it seem as though clear cut tale of heroes verses villain. The villain cause the trouble and the heroes swoop in to save the day but from what I know it wasn't as clear cut as that. You forgot mention humans how those powered individuals, be it aliens or demihumans alike, were captured and experiments by either the government or other shady secretive organization, and as for the heroes. You're a history teacher aren't you, so how can you forget the most recent part of the world's history and how the entire world was almost doomed because of one those supposed heroes", Alana spoke with a fire and fury that shocked both the students and teacher, even Excel was taken aback by her words, sensing of both frustration and rage in her words, as well as hints of sadness and pain.

Excel had seen her speak out like this in class, and she would usually just spend the entire class seated on her desk, either face asleep or where a dull look on her face as she zone out, paying next to no attention to the teacher's words.

"You've…*clears his throat* made a very interesting point Alana but you see…"the teacher was cut by the bell ringing, signaling the end of the class.

The teacher then let a relief sigh, seemingly thankful he didn't have to respond to Alana's question, not knowing how unearth he was supposed to explain the complexity of the history of what truly happened back then to a bunch of high schoolers, thinking that none of them could comprehend or even understand the nuance behind the events of that time while also simultaneous contemplating just how tiring and frustrating it was to be a teacher. The teacher then watched as the students all made their way out of the class, catching a glance of Alana as she left with Excel by her side. Knowing her character and reluctance to participate during classes and mostly spends the entire class sleep, the teacher couldn't help but wonder why on earth she suddenly chose to actually participate during class and even went as asking such a question.
