I heard Doctor Avery clearly. I would turn feral if I didn't get the antidote, but who had the antidote? Even though it was likened to a virus or cancer cells, venom wasn't what people thought it was. There would never be an antidote, no medicine, or anything that could get rid of it, even though many people hoped my thoughts were wrong.
Still, with a pale face, I asked to return to the manor and stay with Uncle Ray. Even though he was so anxious, in the end, he allowed me to come with him, and now, I sat alone with him on the balcony, looking at the sky that looked like orange juice, leaning on his shoulder, and enjoying the time that might not be long.
He had been looking glum as I prepared to talk with him one-on-one.
"What if this is my last time, Uncle?" I asked, causing him to close his eyes with a tightened jaw.
"Puppy, please. You've never been so weak as to talk out of turn like that."
