Chapter 23 - Between Love and Loyalty

The ghost of Joon-woo's touch lingered on Seo-yeon's skin, an unwanted reminder of how much she was wrapped around his finger. She bit her lip, trying to shake off the flush building in her belly, but it was in vain. Each time she believed she had braced herself against him, he managed to strip away her resolve.

She had to escape him.

As the car slowed to a stop outside her apartment complex, she remained still. She could sense Joon-woo regarding her, his eyes weighing against her like a ghostly hand.

"Waiting for something?" His tone was slick, tinged with amusement. "Or would you prefer I carry you in?"

Seo-yeon's fingers tightened into fists. "I'd sooner walk barefoot on glass."

Joon-woo laughed, his fingers drumming against the steering wheel. "That's what I like about you. You always have something cutting to say." His voice lowered, smooth and deadly. "But you should know by now, words don't change anything."

She made herself look at him. "Neither do threats."
