The car ride was very quiet as Damon and Jessica drove back to his place after leaving the hospital.
Jessica pressed her face to the window. She watched the trees and houses go by. Her hands were folded in her lap. She felt tired. Her eyes blinked slowly, but she stayed awake.
Damon kept his eyes on the road. Now and then, he looked at her. His face looked worried.
After a long time, Damon spoke. "How are you feeling?" he asked in a soft voice. "What are you thinking about?"
Jessica turned her head and gave a small smile. "I'm just feeling very, very tired," she said. Her voice was low and soft.
Damon nodded. "You need to rest," he said. "You have been so stressed lately, both emotionally and physically. You need a few days off."
Jessica gave a little laugh. It was not loud, but her tiredness could be heard in it. "I can't really complain," she said. "I know you are just as tired as I am. I'm lucky I have a very kind and understanding boss."
