Aurora looked at that pleading face and slowly shook her head.
"I'm sorry, Alexander. We… can't go back."
"Do you know? I ran out of tears long ago. The day you walked away, I cried harder than I ever had in my life. Even if… even if you had just offered me the smallest bit of comfort."
She bit her lip, sadness filling her eyes.
"Some things, once broken, can never be put back together."
Alexander stared at her in shock. Her voice was firm. It was clear—she really wasn't coming back.
